  • This is a short video I want to put together to help people facing the issue with this weird symptom. One day, my #chamberlain remote control stopped working but it didn't completely stopped working, it worked randomly. It was weird, I thought it was battery problem but it was not. This may help you to fix the problem.

    I had been trying to figure out my garage door for about a year, trying to figure out why I could open the door from 50 meters away but when I was leaving I could not close the door. I checked the antenna reprogrammed vehicles. Then I saw your solution while watching your deck building series. FIXED ! Thanks that was a simple fix to a nagging problem.

    I had an LED bulb on our Lift-Master opener for at least a year now with no issues. Within the last couple of weeks, the opener would only open the door intermittently, seemingly dependent on where the wireless opener (car, hand-held remote) was located. The problem seemed to be getting worse. This video title matched my issue exactly, so I swapped my LED bub with a CFL and the opener operating issue seems to have been fixed. Only time will tell, but Thank You very much!! (my opener is 20+ yrs old)

    Wow!!! I had my garage door professionally installed and even the installer who’s been doing this for over 30 years didn’t have an answer. My remote transmitter and remote keypad was working only in close range by the opener and by close range, I mean literally under the opener. I was frustrated and decided to check TH-cam. Obviously I had LED light bulbs on my opener, checked your troubleshooting video, scratched my head upon seeing your video, and removed the LED bulbs. BINGO 👍. My remotes work perfectly on the other side of the street and problem solved!!! Thx for posting this video. My installer was saying the circuit board might’ve been bad. Thankfully not. Cheers 🍻

    I had insulation added recently to my garage and some other work done. After the work was completed, this issue started. I assumed the issue was with the batteries in the remotes, so I changed them. Same issue. I did not think that just adding insulation would cause this issue so started looking for an answer. I just found realized the guys that did the work in the garage put in LED bulbs in the opener as they were working. I removed the LED bulbs and everything is working well again. Thank you for saving my a lot of frustration!

    GREAT!!! i Recently replaced the sprocket and gear drive on the automatic opener, when I put the unit back together I noticed one of the two bulbs was a spiral CFL. I replaced this bulb with an LED bulb. I immediately started getting intermittent opening of the garage door with the in car remote and also the hand held remote that came with the opener. I will replaced bout bulbs with incandescent bulbs and let you know tomorrow if that was the fix. I gave you a thumbs up and also subscribed, here's hoping this fix worked. Thanks again.

    Genie makes a special universal LED bulb for garage door openers that does not block remote openers. At my Home Depot it is located with garage door accessories not in the light bulb aisle. Sales associates didn’t know of this problem or that special led bulbs existed. Another shopper informed me.

    This appears to be the issue why my replacement "885LM MC" Liftmaster remote did not work reliably. Removing the LED bulbs makes a difference. My older "885LM" non-MC model remote from 2015 worked OK with the LED bulbs, just had a worn out contact switch. Must be some design change they did that makes the newer remotes more sensitive to interference.

    Thanks for the video. What you describe is the exact problem I've been having and I was excited to learn of such a simple fix, however when I changed back to an incandescent light bulb the problem persisted. In fact, I've tried numerous different bulbs and even no light bulb but the problem remains. As soon as the 6 minute cycle the light stays on ends, the remote works, but during that 6 minute cycle, it doesn't. The mystery continues for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    I had an older base model wrangler for 20 years with a turn knob radio. Recently I sold it and purchased a new wrangler with all the blue tooth and fancy radio and immediately noticed issues with my garage remote. Works fine when hold the remote and press the button outside of the car, but when I get in my jeep it works half the time. I wonder if my blue tooth interferes

    I have a three car garage and I had LEDs in all three bays. I only had trouble with one bay not working properly. First I tried replacing the battery and nothing changed. I tried replacing the LED in that bay with an incandescent bulb and nothing changed. I tried reprogramming the remote and nothing changed. I not sure what to try next. I did have to replace the back panel on the opener several years ago. This is the only bay where I had to do that. I'm wondering if the car's electronics are somehow interfering with the remote.

    BEFORE YOU BUY THE OVERPRICED "GARAGE OPENER LED BULBS" READ THIS
    The more "modern" LED bulbs are made to work with dimmers, just like the old incandescent lights. In order to make that happen with LED bulbs, they put in the LED bulb a variable square pulse wave generator which is basically very close to a classical variable frequency oscillator.
    And that basically, is why SOME LED bulbs interfere with your garage door RF receiver.
    The solution to your problem is very simple and very cheap.
    Go to the nearest HOME DEPOT store and buy the CHEAP NON-DIMMABLE LED bulbs. TA DAH!
    Yes, the only "special" thing about the "special" garage LED bulbs is the huge price mark-up

    ...but what if the lights aren't on at all, and when you come home the door won't open? Do the LED bulbs cause interference when they're off, too?

    • @DIYable
      @DIYable  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very very good question, technically it shouldn't cause any interference when it's off. So, this may partially explain why this happens randomly!!!!!

    Does the offending light bulb have to be on in order for its frequency to interfere with the remote? My hardwired opener always works. Only the remote openers work intermittently. Sometimes work to open then I have to wait for some interval of time like 5-10 minutes and then it will work to close.

    • @DIYable
      @DIYable  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to take the light bulb away and do some testing, that's the only way to isolate it's the interference from the light bulb. If you are still having issues without light bulb on the opener, something else is wrong.. then you may need to contact the pro to come take a look.
