    For someone that has carved down many hills through the years but has never pumped a skateboard to generate speed, this really interests me. 44 years old, but would like to try to learn how to pump on the flat (or even a slight incline). Would the C7 truck help me more than the CX truck in any way as I learn how to do this? Also, can someone pump on just a somewhat loose pair of reverse kingpin trucks and a cruiser board? Thanks.

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After skating the C7 and CX for some time now I would just say just get the CX (or C5’s) trucks because they will exceed what you want them to do and are somewhat newer BUT not the newest truck (like the C5).
      The Carver C5’s look like a newer version of the CX’s.
      So I’d suggest getting either one of those.
      Most likely the C5 but, since I haven’t used the C5 ‘s yet, the CX is still an amazing set for pumping, carving, and tight turns to practice your surfing or just cruising. I feel like the C5’s are the same maneuverability but should be a more solid frame.
      Either way though skip the C7 unless your get them cheap.
      Basically any board shape works but try to find the right shaped board for your style.
      They have videos on their site for how different size boards ride so just get a feel for what you prefer first before you decide what kind of board or style of skating/carving your looking to do. Doesn’t have to be a “Caver” deck either). Start slow at first because it may take a few minutes to get used to the carving motion . Good luck though man. I

    Hey man, are those Carver Trucks just on a Regular deck? If so, what's the wheelbase on it.

    • @getyofactsstr8377
      @getyofactsstr8377  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s one of the decks I made but I did make it somewhat similar to a regular street deck shape but with slight adjustments in the concave (or less of it), a flatter tail, and a little longer and thicker than a regular deck . It has been years since I made that though and I no longer have it to measure, but I’m pretty sure the wheelbase had to be around 17” or 18”. Since I wanted it a little father apart than the average street deck wheelbase which is usually around 14.5ish”.
      If you like Loaded skateboards they have some newer decks that I’ve been enjoying, like the “Omakase” which I’ve had for about a year now and I like it a lot. However, the wheelbase on that is longer than what I am used to (around 20” or 22”, I forgot), at least for using Carver trucks, but they did just come out with the “Coyote” deck which is the closest deck they have ever made to a street deck and has their Loaded touch to it.
      I’m looking at it on-line right now and it says it has a 17.5” wheelbase so that could be super fun, it’s width is 8.375” though which is a little skinny for my taste but likely still really fun. But do I prefer my boards on the wider side, around 9” to maybe 10” max. Now that I think about it, since I made that deck myself, I think I measured my stance and where I felt like I would most benefit from where the trucks were placed for carving and pumping, so you might want to see what yours is just incase that might matter, or maybe proves to be the same. I’m 6’1 just to get an idea. Either way though, with how the Carver trucks work I feel like that 17 to 18” wheelbase is a sweet spot for me (not to long not to short and very maneuverable) so maybe try to find a 17.5” at a skate shop and just stand on it to get a feel for the size. Plus I think that wheelbase is becoming pretty common now too.
      Carver also used to make some decent decks too but I haven’t used any in awhile to know for sure. I did use their website to get an idea of what they used that might work best with their trucks.
      Anyway, I hope that helped. Getting the right setup for how you ride really makes the experience way better so take ur time with it and get what u think will work the best. And if u ride hard wheel normally try going a little softer but not too soft. Can’t go wrong with Orangatange wheels, I wish I had them all.
      Damn that was a long ass response lol 🤙

    Currently trying to decide between C7 and CX. Which one do you find easier to generate speed from pumping alone? I have other boards for other types of skating and was thinking this next board purchase would be for flat ground pump-carving. I’m leaning towards the C7 because I’m worried the CX will be too similar to my cruiser and I don’t want two boards that do the same thing. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

    • @getyofactsstr8377
      @getyofactsstr8377  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have it anymore for exact dimensions but it had to be something like 17.5” wheelbase and probably around 30” length and I think 9.5” wide.
      I’ve been riding the Loaded “Omasake” the last year and although it’s a bit longer and has bit further of a wheelbase than what I was used to I did get used to it and I really like it. Their new “Coyote” could pretty awesome, just wish they made it at least 9” wide. But I just gotta see it in person. Everything else looks good with it. The closest carver deck that might compare to the one your talking about could be that Tylor Knox deck. At least the dimensions look good.
      17.5” should be close to what I had on that though, which worked really well with the Carver trucks.

      The C7’s are the biggest trucks of their line and their first generation, with the front truck having more metal than the CX trucks. The C7 does turn a little sharper but it’s not significant enough, to me at least, compared to the CX version. I think the CX are more solid and function just as well as the C7 and the CX trucks are newer too. If you have a surf shop close to you try calling them to see if they have Complete Carver decks and trucks so you can go their and see try them out for yourself. Otherwise I’d say just go with the CX trucks.

    Great video, but don't care for either of those trucks. I've tried and tested every system out there and my choice is smoothstar. Why? It feels the most like surfing and generates the most speed from pumping than the rest. There are so many variables involved that will dictate whether you can pump up a hill easily, your speed, turning, etc. Things like wheel type, truck type and size, bushings, and more importantly wheelbase measured from inside the truck base plates. To prove my point. Take that board you have with the Orangatang wheels and throw on something like Blood orange morgans and see how it pumps. I can take just about any board and make it pump very easy up an incline. Its not dependant soley on the truck, especially not these two. Those two trucks do pump ok if they are setup correctly, but a smoothstar setup correctly will run circles around the cx and c7.

      I actually need to try them on the fat tail even though I feel like I have already I just don’t remember for sure. Hey, would recommend Carver trucks on flexy deck like on a vanguard? Which type of carvers?

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      chau2k5 Hey man, so I haven’t done extensive riding with a flex long board like the vanguard, other than with my Loaded (flex) fat tail but I didn’t try it out for very long, but it wasn’t terrible to ride so its definitely possible that it could be really fun and I just wasn’t really used to it on that long of a board. I just remember feeling like that with these trucks you don’t need a flex board because the trucks do all the pumping and carving. So a longer flex board, imo, feels better with a good set of longboard trucks like bear grizzly, Paris, gullwing, caliber etc but loosened up a little to your liking. So it’s a little hard for me to give you a solid answer but if I had to I would definitely say your best bet would be with the CX’s for sure. I just know that carver trucks are typically ridden on stiffer boards between 25”- 35ish”. I actually got the Loaded Omakase deck a few months back and put the CX’s on that it feels really good if your looking for a loaded deck that I know works well with those trucks, but the vanguard could be an interesting combination so let me know how that goes if you decide to ride that set up. I’m going to have to put a pair of CX’s back on my Fat tail and give it another go too since I really didn’t give it a chance so if I do I’ll try to give you a better update on how it feels. Not sure if that even helps at all...

    hello! have you tried de Carver trucks with the loaded fattail??

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marcelo Gallo I feel like I have but I actually don’t remember for sure. I’ll have to try it and get back to you. I did put the carvers on the board I made that is similar to the Loaded fat tail but it didn’t feel as natural and was a little weird. But that could just be because mine is a little different or my truck placement could be off or different. I have noticed that with either type of Carver trucks the ride gets a little funky after a certain length of board. Carver trucks seem to be better with shorter(not toot short)/normal/med sized longboards. If the board is too long the carving thrust isn’t as powerful. But that could also be because I just haven’t found the right longboard for it yet. I’ll keep experimenting and I will also set up the fat tail w/carvers and get back to you on that.

    • @getyofactsstr8377
      @getyofactsstr8377  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True what your saying and I recommend the short boards and length that you suggest but using the Fat tail is just a different feel and something new I wanted to try. It actually worked fairly well too, to my surprise, but still not as good as what your were saying. I really like the fat tail design strictly for pumping to gain speed using normal trucks. So using the Carver trucks with the Fat tail didn't add speed but they did allow me to keep pumping with out stopping, which can be done with just about any board w/carver trucks, but again just a different type of feel and ride since it has the flex. I also have the stiffest Loaded though so if I didn't and it was super flexible I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. The board I was talking about was made with the "Roarckit". I left a link to that company in my summary up top. Its definitely a cool process if you have the tools.

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kook In short, go with the CX version.
      I’ve realized the original (C7) is just an older design and “Carver” figured out how to make the CX version function the same as the original C7’s but look more like a normal truck, which also makes its less likely to break and is just more sturdy and solid imo. (Not saying the C7’s break easy, because they are solid too, but there are more parts on the C7’s making the potential to break greater imo). They have a newer version called the C5’s, which I have not tried yet but according to their site have a lower profile which apparently is better for incorporating street skating with the surf skate feel so you might want to check them out too depending on your use for them.
      You can’t go wrong with the CX or C7’s though.
      The C7 and CX both give the “street surfing” feel and you can pump just as hard and do tight turns on the newer CX as you can on the C7’s imo.
      The C7’s can just get a little tighter on turns but you really don’t need them to turn any tighter (nor do you even notice much of a difference side by side) which is also why I suggest the CX.
      So CX wins the boot unless you can get the C7’s for much cheaper. Good luck and go slow starting out so you don’t go head over heals on your first pump.

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kook Those prices are for their kits which come with wheels and bearings (I think) or they also have completes which is everything including the deck, which are in the 200+’s but if you already have the wheels, bearings, and the deck then just get the trucks by themselves which are under $100 (I’ll post the link for just the trucks, they should be $98 for the pair of trucks (1-CX and 1-C2.4). I had a deck, wheels, and bearings already so I just bought the trucks. “Sometimes” if you get everything separately it can be cheaper or a little more expensive but at least you get everything you want. This should be the link.

    It's strange because I got the impression that c7 is way more solid and steady than the cx. Cx feels to me very sharp and unforgiving more capable for tricks in skate parks etc

    • @ALGH2101
      @ALGH2101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      pazkor I’m unsure if your judging from experience or strictly by impression. Now, if you have skated both pairs and still feel this way than I would be curious to know how tight or loose you ride your trucks, but it sounds as though you haven’t. Both trucks are solid and they both can be tightened. However, they are both made to be “loose” for the surf skate feel and won’t tighten anywhere close to as tight/stiff as a regular pair of street trucks. The CX’s are made more for tricks and is why Carver just came out with an their newest edition “C5” truck (in March 2018) that’s looks similar to the CX’s but are made more for the progression and evolution of incorporating traditional skateboard tricks while using these kind of surfskate trucks. I have not tried the “C5’s” yet, but I’m looking forward to it. So for the CX’s, again this is in my opinion, they can do everything the C7’s can do but I feel the CX’s frame is much more reliable and solid in its overall build since it has less moving parts, functions the same (if not better), and is smaller compared to the C7’s which are much larger since it has that big pivot arm for the front truck. C7’s are still great though don’t get me wrong. Although, I doubt Carver will ever make a newer version of the C7’s because they have mastered its design with the CX’s, which are also probably cheaper to produce since it has less parts and is a little smaller overall. Carver basically prove that CX design surpasses its original C7 design since they just released the C5’s about a month ago, which have a very similar design to the CX’s. So if you haven’t tried any of them yet I highly suggest trying anyone of them out. I just like to suggest the CX’s over the C7’s due the reasons already stated. More than likely I will also end up suggesting the C5’s also but I won’t know for sure until I try them. So, to be continued...

      killaz- I'd go with the CX's if I were you even though the C7's can do a carve just slightly tighter, like a tight cut back, but its rare that you use any trucks to do a carve that tight. I surf and don't use the C7's as much as I used to, even for street surfing, only because the CX trucks can carve and do cut backs just as good but are sturdier truck overall. Which is what you want with trucks like these. Starting out it's easier to flip over the nose with the C7's since they can turn pretty much 90 degrees. So if your new to the C7's and not careful when you turn to hard or put too much weight at the front of your board you can turn the trucks 90 degrees and if you don't know how to jump off when that happens you might face plant. So the CX trucks are great for street surfing and carving and, again, what I would recommend for you. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Carver discontinued selling the C7's eventually since they nailed the design and performance with the CX trucks with them being so similar in feel, easier to use, sturdier, and I feel overall more solid of a truck. Hope that helps be safe!

This is why I choose the CX’s though, (and no I did haven’t need to touch the bushings at all), the CX’s are a solid piece truck and more traditional so they have less moving parts but still do exactly what I want it to do. I can do tight turns with both trucks. The C7 can basically turn 90 ° s though and they are heavy and have much more parts that can break. I feel like the CX have the all the right amount or turn, snap, carve, to them but they also feel more stable at the same time, kinda hard to explain... It seems like the CX’s might last longer under a lot of abuse but they are also both beasts of trucks. So that is my contradiction. They are both good and you really can’t go wrong with either one. I just prefer the CX’s a little more for those reasons. I guess my best example that I can think of is if I ride the C7’s off the side of a 6in tall curb onto the street, it seems (to me) like my chances of landing where the front truck turns 90 °s and fall flat on my face could be a higher than when I do the same thing with the CX’s, and the CX’s turn and carve very similar to the C7’s, I personally just feel like I have more control with the CX. Not sure if that helps but u will be happy either way you go.

    Can anyone tell me is it possible to use these carver C7 or CX trucks on an actual long board not the shorter board he uses do people do this is there any reason i shouldn't do this is this a noob thing to do?
    I want to have that surfing feel with a longer board to make it more realistic to my surfboard because I'm surfing a 5ft10inch i want a fairly long board to "imitate" my surfboard as best or near as possible without actually surfing on a 5ft10inch long skateboard.
    thanks for any help people of TH-cam

      You can however I wouldn't get anything longer than the longest board on the carver website. This is the their skateboard to surfboard length comparison chart which should help explain it better. The way these trucks move are much tighter in the turns. Where as a traditional longboard wouldn't benefit from that if it's too long. Not saying it's not possible if you did do it but it just may not be do feel and do what you want it to. You may benefit more with the gullwing sidewinders if you do want to use a more traditional style longboard. Definitely read the carve truck link that I posted below and the sidewinder link is below that.

      Nice man thanks for the info, I've surfed for the past 16 years and recently moved to Germany where's there's fuck all waves so going for the next best option at least to get some practice in. I never really skated or long-boarded (strangely) mind so I'm a bit of a noob will check this all out and make a more informed decision now much appreciated Hunter Keating.

      Epple Bradley have you decided yet? I live in germany as well and want to have that longboard feeling but with carver trucks. So i think my right choice will be the carver tyler riddler. They recommend it with c7 trucks, but after this video im not quite sure if the cx would be better..but i want that surfing feel

      I know this was a while ago but you can use a longer board, it will just have a different type of feel to it. I haven't gone any longer than that Loaded Fat tail in the video but I think it might feel weird and less like surfing if you did go much longer. To try and replicate your surfing what you should probably try and do is get into your (comfortable) surfing stance on flat ground as if your were surfing, then measure the width from the outer edges of your feet, which is prob around 3ft+ give or take depending on your height. and find a deck thats long enough to fit the width of your surfing stance. Carver boards don't typically have much of a curve at the end of the their decks because its mostly meant to feel like a traction pad by giving you a slight incline for support. So I wouldn't really suggest getting one much longer than your normal surfing stance since your feet will basically resting over the screws of your trucks, and hopefully that will give you a closer feel to your surfing style. Just keep in mind the longer you go on the deck then the less quick and tight your turns will be, however it will still be quick just because thats the way the trucks are made, just not as quick as a shorter one. Hope that made sense.... Heres a link to one of their longer, if not longest deck they make, which includes a video that will hopefully show you what I mean. Check out the videos on their site of different length boards to get an idea how they differ.

      +thomped billy Clermont also has a bunch of hills. There’s good size one (for Central Florida) that’s basically right in front of the Sanctuary Ridge Golf Course where they have down hill competitions. Not sure if there amateur, pro, or just for fun but is the only place Iv seen close by that holds a longboard event of any kind. Granted I don’t search for them...

    Carving with out pushing in skateboarding is called gyrating.
