You laugh but perhaps you don’t realize this was written when he was 17 years old. He composed it, arranged it produced it all himself. He worked with the great Jerry Wexler, one of the greatest producers of all time. Jerry produced this for him at Muscle Shoals studio but when George returned to the UK, he realized it had lost its spark. That’s why George produced it himself. He went through 11 saxophone players before he landed on the perfect-one. George could do it all and that’s why this song has over 1 billion streams. I don’t think it’s his best one, his best ones followed this when he became a solo artist in later years. He was phenomenal. Perhaps you find it silly because you just have not discovered all of his music.
Chill the fuck out they’re laughing at the beginning and sax parts because in recent years it’s been a meme for like sex or dirty jokes, like it’ll play a 10 sec clip of the sax and have some dirty caption that’s funny. Take it easy they ain’t laughing at the song
GM is one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time. Selling more than 125 million records in his lifetime. He’s a triple threat with being able to also produced all of his own music. It’s rare that a member of a pop group goes on to be even bigger. The man won countless awards, but most importantly, he was most proud of the songwriting awards he won. His music just got better as he got older and his voice matured beautifully.
I love both versions of this song and they both have their own feeling. But was Seether does to this song hits me harder than the original. Seethers version feels more emotional with the more harsh vocals, and the distorted guitar. Easily in the top 20 cover songs of all time, maybe top 10.
I really re-discovered this great tune because of Seether. Didn't realize how magical it was. I do like the "rocking" style of the Seether version- but the original is a masterpiece! Thanks for the video!
I’ve always liked the original song since it was new. I’m a 52 year old Metalhead but I like most music really and I had to play it in band class on tenor 🎷 saxophone when I was about 14 😄 . Had no idea that the Seether version even existed until now I definitely like what they did with it. It’s really just a great song in any style and it’s always interesting when some from a completely different style redoes something everyone already knows well their own way as if they had written it. - Check out Type O Negative’s version of Cinnamon Girl ! or their version of Summer Breeze is crazy as well , Peter Steele’s super low voice sounds awesome on those tracks !
I’m ecstatic….that was out of left field Richard! I share your love for George Michael, I can’t believe it 😂 never expected that would be one of your absolute favorites, but I know why, because that man has an amazing voice and I love it too!
😂😂 I didn’t plan to sit in on this one, but Judson thought it would be fun to see me grooving to it. There are so many songs from that era that are near and dear to me. Glad you enjoyed it!
Careless Whisper is one of those songs you wish you wrote. It's an awesome song. I love this song. I can see 12.7K metalheads making sure nobody can bare witness to them sing out loud the lyrics to Careless Whisper WHAM! style.
Its more funny to me, not because its george michael, but because Richard loves such extreme metal…and George Michael. Just having him as a close friend, knowing how kind and loving he is, then learning of the hardcore stuff he listens to is already an anomaly, THEN he dropped “oh yeah, and George Michael” on me, the dichotomy is just so amusing to me. I’m just tickled at the amalgam that is my brother and one of my best and closest friend. But, I certainly can’t deny I dont make fun of him. And my poking fun doesnt stop with george michael! And believe, he gives as good as he gets. But all of it is in love and respect. I promise.
They actually covered this song as a joke because they got ask to do a song for something, just happened to go mainstream for em and became a single on their album...
It's great when a cover is this good. In This Moment has done a few incredible covers! She did a Phil Collins song and a Blondie song and something else I can't remember
Prince is legendary...as is George. Nothing to be giggled at for! And I say this as someone who's not a huge fan of either though I love music from both. I watched the Wham doc recently. George was such a massive talent...more than I realized.
Be loud and proud to be a George Michael fan, there is no one like him and there never will be 💜 People that shrug their shoulders when George is mentioned only ever think of Wham! and the Faith era (nowt wrong with either of them) but there is soooo much more to George 💜 Go through his album catalogue and then you'll realise what you have been missing 💜
Fuck YES. That Seether cover is incredibly underrated. It'll hold up forever. I think the Seether version conveys the sadness of the lyrics across the entire composition/performance better though.
I haven’t worked out what I find so endearing about you two. I don’t know why sometimes I feel I know what the ‘in’ joke is but i don’t know no one why I can’t work out which one of you is being cheeky sometimes and and whose worse! Funniest TH-cam music reaction - I got a note- when did this start… I didn’t need the rest of the note to fall off my chair Clever, very silly, sausages.
Thank you for the kind words. We’re about a month and a half into this right now. I still feel like we’re trying to find our footing from time to time. We’re going to be authentic, no matter what. Hopefully, people will appreciate that as we go along.
Grew up with the drummer John Humphrey from Del City Oklahoma where some of my good friends from "POWERLORD" formed by Bob Gourley the drummer & his brother Tony Gourley the lead guitarist played some the best speed metal like "MASTERS OF DEATH" please take a listen to it on you tube thanks from the 80s
Lol I love George Michael too. "A Different Corner" and "I Can't Make You Love Me" - live versions are awesome. "Dont let the Sun go Down of me" with Elton John is fantastic. Careless Whisper is a classic and Seether did a cool cover of it - sure it is a bit basic but I love the vocals, and that "please stay" part. :D That bass and sax in the original are awesome.
I’m not as big of a GM fan but even though I shouldn’t, I love this song. He has others that are good but this is the only one I ever remember. I like a lot of Seether and their version is good. I should like the Seether version better but I still like GM’s. I’m rather narrow in the music I like but every once in awhile I’m surprised by something from left field.
Look at those two geezers laughing at the beginning of the original hahaha.. guys, I love me some George Michael. Amazing soulful singer. There is this MTV Unplugged version of his album Listen Without Prejudice (what a great album title!) on which he sings a cover of the Stevie Wonder song 'They Won't Go When I Go' - I mean.. how darkspirited do you want to go? That is a heartchilling version.. Hating Seether even more right now 😝 (naaah, the cover is quite nice, but i am just not into Seether. Horrible 'stale' vocal compared to George Michael)
Random inspiration for some Steely Dan came when Jud started playing the piano at the end. He seems to like “groove” bass lines and such. Steely Dan is amazing for that stuff. Plus killer piano stuff. Hard to suggest but Royal Scam or Aja would be good.
Feel like Seether did the emotion and passion of the song's lyrics more justice than GM. So I feel that the cover is better in that sense. I feel like it's a similar situation to the The Sound of Silence cover by Disturbed.
I am just enjoying this as it is, loveable conversation and yes I do love the Gerorge Micgael song as well and not for only the bass part, he composed plenty of incredibe songs but rather listen this metal cover, I really appreciate your honesty, but ok all is fine please get back to Tool or perfect circe judith any other I feel like you are my friends
I don't know if you guys take suggestions, but I'd love to see Judson react to Falling In Reverse - The Drug In Me Is You, the original and then the reimagined version that's played with classical instruments.
Pretty Please Richard, would you react to GM videos/songs and live performances on your channel if possible? Really want to hear your thoughts on his catalogue.
Seeing Judson make fun of Richard for his guilty pleasures is my new guilty pleasure hahaha.. was never a fan of George Michael, or Seether, and definitely not a fan of the song, but the saxophone line is undeniably fire.. even if it's possibly the definition of 80s cheese haha
It will be very intereseting to see your reaction to the "metal" cover of moonlight sonata, 3rd movement , by Tina S (at electric guitar). Beethoven was a metal head haha 🤘
They probably didn’t use that term in his day 😄 but yeah I have no doubt that he was that equivalent back in his time as even now his music sounds great on an electric guitar 🎸 😄 Tina S. is an awesome guitarist! 🤘🏻 when I first seen her vids years ago I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.
Interesting to see Judson without his glasses. Y'all are some goofy bastards and I love it!🤣 Please do Hey ya! by OutKast and Sleep Token next time you do a double. 🤘🔥🤘❤️🫂
Never heard this cover, but Seether’s hits me emotionally more than the original.
I love the seether cover. If feels more dark to me. Which I prefer.
I listen to Seether's cover a lot. So much that I forget it's a cover, and it throws me whenever I hear the original.
I always immediatly trust someone who loves George Michael! ❤️
5th grade boy-girl party in 1989 and slow dancing with prettiest girl of our class to careless whisper. That’s it for me.
You laugh but perhaps you don’t realize this was written when he was 17 years old. He composed it, arranged it produced it all himself. Careless whisper is one of those songs that makes you think you can sing 😂 love me some George Micheal
I agree. It made George Michael think he could sing.
I love both versions of this song and they both have their own feeling. But was Seether does to this song hits me harder than the original. Seethers version feels more emotional with the more harsh vocals, and the distorted guitar. Easily in the top 20 cover songs of all time, maybe top 10.
You need to check out their covers of nirvana. Omg.
I really re-discovered this great tune because of Seether. Didn't realize how magical it was. I do like the "rocking" style of the Seether version- but the original is a masterpiece! Thanks for the video!

Say whaaaaa??? Y'all didn't like the seether cover at all? 🤯🤯🤯 I'm shook.
Agreed! I think these guys have a hard time detaching from the original song. Pre-bias is unfortunate.
They both look like they would rather watch paint dry.
I’m ecstatic….that was out of left field Richard! I share your love for George Michael, I can’t believe it 😂 never expected that would be one of your absolute favorites, but I know why, because that man has an amazing voice and I love it too!

Dont judge a book by its cover 101
Careless Whisper is one of those songs you wish you wrote. It's an awesome song. I love this song. I can see 12.7K metalheads making sure nobody can bare witness to them sing out loud the lyrics to Careless Whisper WHAM! style.
Amusing as ever. And loved the No Leaf Clover tease at the start.
I can't take the original seriously but that Seether cover is so good!!! Listened so many times, and the ending is sick!!!
Should never feel guilty about some thing you genuinely love! Even if other people make fun of you that’s their issue!
Its more funny to me, not because its george michael, but because Richard loves such extreme metal…and George Michael. George is the best! That's why you love him👍
A Seether exploration would be fun! I love this song. Great reaction, guys!
You guys were sincerely having a blast. I love it
OMG the Seether version is so good. I can actually understand all the lyrics better
And thats what METAL dose...even my mother who is a GM fan said thats how this song is suppose to sound hahaha
You play all night on those piano covers, beautiful and amazing.
I love George Michael! Not feeling the cover! But I love y’all! ✌🏻🫶🏻
They actually covered this song as a joke because they got ask to do a song for something, just happened to go mainstream for em and became a single on their album...
It's great when a cover is this good. In This Moment has done a few incredible covers! She did a Phil Collins song and a Blondie song and something else I can't remember
Seethers cover of this song just hits the emotions different. Especially, the Please Stay
very cool song, I especially like the way he sings it in Rio
Love the back and forth
Its a great song
I feel you on this. I am a huge metal head but also have an obsession with Prince. I'm often giggled at about that one...lol
It’s always good to know we’re not alone. 😂
Prince is legendary...as is George. Nothing to be giggled at for! And I say this as someone who's not a huge fan of either though I love music from both. I watched the Wham doc recently. George was such a massive talent...more than I realized.

Judson, please do a careless whisper cover. We need it and don’t lie, you know you do too.
Loved No Leaf Clover at the start!
That was exactly what I wanted to say hahaha
I haven’t worked out what I find so endearing about you two.
I don’t know why sometimes I feel I know what the ‘in’ joke is but i don’t know no one why I can’t work out which one of you is being cheeky sometimes and and whose worse!

Guys
Listen to listen without prejudice
both are great,,cuz its a great song
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter / Tool - No Quarter would be interesting
Hey guys 🤚 love an 80’s tune. YES PLEASE to some covers by Judson! Hope you are both well 🤟 🤍🏴✌️ Raine

Glad to know I’m not alone here
I wana see or hear Judson in his wheelhouse. That'd be awesome. I like the new location. What's the story behind it? Cool tho!
Yall are on crack. Seether’s version blows the original out of the water and it isn’t close
Jud could definitely sing that one, no doubt he’s got the range
I’m not as big of a GM fan but even though I shouldn’t, I love this song. He has others that are good but this is the only one I ever remember. I like a lot of Seether and their version is good. Type O Negative's LOVE YOU TO DEATH or just anything Type O Negative!
and it's not even April Fool's!
😂
Random inspiration for some Steely Dan came when Jud started playing the piano at the end. He seems to like “groove” bass lines and such. Steely Dan is amazing for that stuff. Plus killer piano stuff. Hard to suggest but Royal Scam or Aja would be good.
Love this suggestion. I doubt he’s familiar with anything from The Royal Scam or Aja
Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio covered this beautiful song in a fun way a couple years ago. Check it out. Those poor guys in Seether… dang bruh. L o L. ❤
Feel like Seether did the emotion and passion of the song's lyrics more justice than GM. So I feel that the cover is better in that sense. I feel like it's a similar situation to the The Sound of Silence cover by Disturbed.
Jesus to a child

Pretty Please Richard, would you react to GM videos/songs and live performances on your channel if possible? Really want to hear your thoughts on his catalogue.
I was thinking while the video was playing that you should do the same type of reaction with Gerry Rafferty and foo fighters Baker street.
Yes! Love this idea.
Hey, I don't comment a lot here but why not some Canldemass reactions? 😮 you guys became my favorite music reaction channel
Great suggestion! Where should we start with Candlemass?
@@Greatmeasures Mourner's Lament is one of my favorites
It will be very intereseting to see your reaction to the "metal" cover of moonlight sonata, 3rd movement , by Tina S (at electric guitar).
Beethoven was a metal head haha 🤘
They probably didn’t use that term in his day 😄 but yeah I have no doubt that he was that equivalent back in his time as even now his music sounds great on an electric guitar 🎸 😄 Tina S. is an awesome guitarist! 🤘🏻 when I first seen her vids years ago I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.
Its odd, I prefer the vocals of Seether's cover, but you really can't beat that sax solo.
Deadpool has made Careless Whisper extremely tolerable for me personally. I can’t stand Seether’s cover.
The seether version of this tho...
The dude in the red shirt had nothing substantive to offer. U guys are on island with your opinion on this one
That George Michael grilling was like a Senate hearing lol..
Please make LED zeppelin no quarter or kashmir
You're cute❤
😆
Cover>Original, not even close.
GM lover once again proving that not all heavy metal lovers are meatheads.
Lol.
What’s so funny?!
Sorry to say but Seether did it 100% better. It was more intense the way Seether did the song. George sounds like he phoned it in.
Are you Serious?
Highly disappointed in Seether for covering such a shit song.
Interesting to see Judson without his glasses. Y'all are some goofy bastards and I love it!🤣 Please do Hey ya! by OutKast and Sleep Token next time you do a double. 🤘🔥🤘❤️🫂
Great idea!
Loved No Leaf Clover at the start!
Trying to get him to do a full cover. 🤞
