@Stop Lying What does Islam teach about non-believers and what should happen to them? What does Islam teach about religious tolerance? What does Islam teach about Women? What does Islam teach about marriage? What does Islam teach about Christians and Jews? What is it that fuels terrorist groups? What is their worldview? Why is it that the Taliban will slaughter those who go against their rule? Is not the definition of terrorism using violence and intimidation to implement or maintain a political or ideological view? To not call the Taliban terrorists is foolish and shows ignorance. If you believe they are not terrorist by definition you're either a fool or just willfully ignorant.

The 'good' Afghan people have had 20 years of US support to build a government and fighting military. I'm okay with the decision to leave. What I am appalled by is the decision by the president to pull the military out before the US civilians and those locals with good reason to expect asylum were evacuated. The level if incompetency is unthinkable.
Afghanistan isn’t a country the way other countries are, they’re extremely tribal and most of the tribes are afraid of the Taliban. There isn’t any strength without the US to fight anyone.
The decision to leave was a weak descision, and weakness invites aggression. You just wait, Iran is already cooking up an attack against Israel from Lebanon. China is already ramping up the narrative against Taiwan. All because it's obvious that Biden would rather abandon Americans to their fate in Afghanistan, than to be responsible for a new military involvement, or be one-uped by Trump peace-wise. Failing to meet smaller threats, means they grow until you are, eventually, dragged into a major conflict. Trump was keeping a strong image and minor involvement, Biden's weak image is going to push him into a position, where he can't avoid war.

The thing about this is that it was clear this would be happening 20 years ago ... because the troops NEVER WENT TO PAKISTAN, where the Taliban are actually from. No one in the USA seems to know about this ... but not going after the Taliban in Pakistan is like ... *_"going to war in WWII ... and stopping at the borders of the bad guys and never even bombing those countries."_*
I remember my last tour in Afghanistan we did some tyrannical stuff. We built roads, multiple schools, secured those schools so the kids were safe, handed out food water and school supplies, provided basic hygiene supplies / check ups, trained their police / military, helped them with filtering systems for drinking water and more. The sad truth is we only got so far in the war in Afghanistan with the help of the Afghan people and we abandoned them.
Protecting the poppy fields and the child-buggerers probably undermined that image in the eyes of a lot of the locals, unfortunately. The US started off by offering the Afghans democracy, then telling them they had to pick the president the US wanted, not their own preferred candidate, then spent decades running the country in a way repugnant to a lot of the locals. The Afghan people weren't simply "abandoned"... with 300k men and all the hardware they could want, they refused to fight for the order you imposed on them.
I get it man you have to justify it internally but the truth is you had no business over there. You gonna build roads, schools in every third world shithole across the world? Is it your job to hand out water to afghanis at a staggering cost to us your people. Every animal on this planet manages to find water. People have been finding water in the middle east for at least 50,000 years. Third world hellholes aren't third world hellholes because the information on how not to be a third world hellhole isn't out there. Knowing what needs to be done and being able to do it are 2 different things. Also nothing is more tyrannical than what you were doing. Imagine if we were invaded then the people who invaded us took away our firearms and our freedom of movement but in exchange gave us toothbrushes and water bottles then patted us on the heads and motioned for us to go back in our homes.
That's all America does buddy look at the US history ever since world war II, The US has been in talks with the Taliban for over two and a half years to hand the country back over to them this was not a surprise this was planned but we still left all that equipment over there for them to get makes you wonder don't it.
It's not our place to get involved with other countries. We need to worry about home before we worry about a country that doesn't want or Need our help. Even if we rebuilt the country from the ground up the afghans don't possess the iq points to maintain it
“Evil never sleeps.” The entire problem, in a nutshell. I heard Cernovich quote someone yesterday, and essentially he said “We have the watches; they have the time.” The Taliban is engaged in jihad - it will take as long as it takes, in their minds, to dominate. Years, decades, centuries… they plan to prevail. They’re playing the long game. We operate in sitcom-length increments. This situation right now is pretty terrifying. I believe we are in more danger now, from many forces, than we ever were.
I believe it was George Washington or one of the founders or generals during the revolutionary war that said they didn’t actually plan to defeat the British but instead make the war so prolonged and costly that they’d have to give up
Agreed and this is the problem. Many people share the "if we all just play nice with each other, we can all get along" hippie mentality, totally ignorant of geopolitics and international culture and think the U.S. is just a bully kicking the can down the street incessantly looking to start "pointless wars". These are the same people who are now condemning Biden for abruptly leaving the Afghan people to fend for themselves. It's like make up your damn mind already.

The government had 20 years, the citizens didnt make the decisions
Afghanistan isn’t a country the way other countries are, they’re extremely tribal and most of the tribes are afraid of the Taliban. There isn’t any strength without the US to fight anyone.
Why were we there to begin with?
We were there because as John said...evil never sleeps. Same reason we were in Vietnam.

This was the exact same reasoning used by the Viet Cong. You just have to have the patience to out wait your enemies.
Evil is as real and common as gravity.
I believe it was George Washington or one of the founders or generals during the revolutionary war that said they didn’t actually plan to defeat the British but instead make the war so prolonged and costly that they’d have to give up

I think it was Von Clauswitz's On War. where he said to defeat an enemy you have to defeat their means or their will to fight. Every country in the world now know we lack the will.
Love the Alexander quote, btw.
Well ... if you dont go after the Taliban IN PAKISTAN (where they are from), you wont ever solve that problem. There is an extremist religious province in that country, which is responsible for terrorist attacks within Pakistan itself, but they have trouble dealing with this by themselves.

Why do you say that? Do you think Russia - military budget 10% of that of the USA and the country is HUGE so "not easy to defend" - has any expansionist desires? All they want is to BE LEFT ALONE ... but it was THE USA (Hillary to be more precise) who destabilised Syria and Ukraine (a.k.a. "trying to take away something that was theirs") ... which both had russian naval bases. Stop BEING THE BULLY ... and then claiming "they started it", they didnt! Oh and as an older german I still remember the PROMISE "NATO will NOT expand eastward" which the USA, GB, France and West Germany gave to Gorbachev in return for reunification. Look at where the borders of NATO are now compared to back then.
Instead of ANTAGONISING Putin and declaring him to be evil ... why not try INVITING HIM TO JOIN ... and have that country as an asset against China ... the REAL danger for world peace, because they have been given ALL THE MONEY AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE WORLD ... to supply us with cheap stuff. I'm pretty sure this went exactly as planned. Now that they gave the enemy the biggest care package ever, they will be sending the troops back in. These 2 wars were never meant to be won nor were they ever supposed to end.
Of course they were never meant to end. War is the largest industry in US. Killing and suffering is what made america, and it's what keeps it alive, and always will.

Bah, if the Afghan people had any desire to stay free, the Taliban wouldn't have gained so much ground in such a short time. The US wasn't able to train and equip the Afghan army in 20 years?

True.
It shocking that some people think that the right thing to do is to keep staying in Afghanistan.
It's been 20 years. Countless lives have been wasted, countless dollars have been wasted and still there's nothing to show for it.
The answer can't be to keep wasting more resources.

I can’t imagine anyone not seeing this situation exactly like you have spelled it out. My oldest brother went to Vietnam and like many others, it was not his choice to go there. If we've learned anything about that war, it is that we should have never gone there in the first place. Containment was a spurious foreign policy with unsuccessful and deadly consequences.
It's always been a game to the "Leaders". Throwing lives away in far off places, for little reason. It is depressing, but while the leaders may be weak, we the people are not. Oh, and thank you for your service.
