This was my first Winston Cup Race. I was in College and I was there with two of my college buddies and my future wife. We sat in the Tower on top of the stands. We drove over from Nashville and then drove back that night. Because of the late start it was Monday morning before we got back home. Ever since then I’ve always taken Monday off when I had race tickets on a Sunday. Great Memories.
i love old nascar. i’m not old enough to have watched any of these races live but there’s something about these races that are better than modern nascar
This track i went to almost every race there from 1979 - 1992 & i can say it was every bit as exciting "being there" as it was (and now is again) watching these glorious races again from the "old Bristol" right here.

The Greatest Drivers and cars in the history of the sport right here in this race. The King, Earnhardt, Waltrip, Richmond and Kulwicki. Many many more....What a Joy to watch and reminisce.
Many of these young drivers have driven before stage racing was a thing. It is not the drivers fault that rules are where they are right now. They just get in and drive the best within the rules set by NASCAR. I’d argue many of these drivers like Busch, Larson, bell,, reddick, Hamlin, logano, chastain etc etc would be very competitive in just about anything under different rules given the opportunity. Like I said it’s not the drivers it’s NASCAR that’s made it what it is.
@@eddierodriguezjr274 I get that yes some of these rules r dumb but still its not much talent 2day like in the past its like the music industry any fool that looks good can b a star all im saying is these young drivers should no all about the car other than sitting in the seat!!!
The Greats knew when to ride and save and when to race to win a 500 mile event. In today's fast paced society NASCAR will keep cutting the races shorter.
The big wheels in marketing should talk 2 some of us real race fans not these programed clowns 2 day 2 bad we real race fans couldn't get 2gether and have a meeting with them we could tell them y they suck its simple there's not such thing as stock car racing in this country anymore!!!!
@@MMAALL no it was sold out in the late 90s through 2000s with as many seats as it has now. it was one of the hardest tickets to get period. When they repaved the track and changed the style of racing, it doomed it.
I bet both Bob Jenkins and Benny Parsons are somewhere out on the other side of the galaxy, doing commentary for a race between asteroids and UFO's! Rest easy, both of you.
This race was the only time I went to Bristol. Track and racing were great! Went to the pits after the race, went to the haulers outside of turn 1. Saw Alan Kulwicki who was a rookie and had a good run.
1993 was the first year of concrete which drastically changed the track. That was also about the same time the seating boom REALLY kicked in which ultimately led to the coliseum iteration we have now. I believe that "transition" was completed by 1998 or 1999? The 3-tiered backstretch stands were the last thing to be rebuilt iirc. Late 80s, early 90s Bristol was the best. Right mix of old school charm with a perfect amount of seats, 50-70k or so. Being able to see "Thunder Valley" added to the visual appeal. It was part of the track's character.....
That's back then when racing was racing drivers were drivers 2 day we have spoiled entitled rich kids who most of them got here because of daddy's money they r nothing more than glorified steering wheel holders and its not even a sport anymore its high paid moving advertising sad but true and the truest racing fan knows it!!!!

I was cutting cherry wood that summer.
Always enjoy these vintage races! 👍 🏁

RIP Bob Jenkins
Rip NASCAR
And BP
The kinetic energy of the cars is so much more evident. I am not sure how or why that is the case, I may be imagining it.
Honestly insane on how much the look of the track has changed. Insane glow-up

Sorry dude I have 2 disagree its not racing anymore
@@richardlamb5369 I'm not a fan of the current racing either. I was referring to the "old Bristol" (asphalt HIGH banks).
Yeah I no what ur saying that was when racing was awesome
THIS ERA OF CARS LOOKS THE BEST

Man that was a hard hit for Neil Bonnet. Dude was seriously snake bit
It was so eerie watching that knowing how his story would go over the next several years.
Dale Earnhardt and Terry Labonte getting into it at bristol???
Shocker
Just rattling his cage.Lol
Love the "Walk of Life" ripoff playing while doing the starting lineup lol
Not a Toyota to be seen. Love it.
Toyota is robably the most American car company that is involved with NASCAR these days.
@stevencramsie9172 not probably...it absolutely is...the only manufactory that is manufactured and assembled more in the US is Tesla
Can't be mission impossible to bring back this kind of racing.
This is real racing here. These young guys out there now don't know what this is about. No stage racing here.
Most guys raced before stage racing was a thing
Amen brother!!!!

there are puddles on pit row and the race just stayed green
Bristol was sold out a year in advance back then....the stands today were half empty ...and nascar still dont understand what they have done
A lot smaller capacity back then, though.

@mikecross4350 there's no way you're dumb enough to believe any of that nonsense you just said
These cars were beautiful
Have a great nite my family and friend I recently open
Great racing 🏁
Imagine a driver today hitting the wall lime Bonnet did on lap 75 & wave the ambulance off because they took their time getting there

100 times better than that manure they claim is racing these days.
I don't even watch anymore.
Thank you so much. The new downforce cars not quite as fun imo

I would rather watch these classic races over the crap they have now any day. Do away with stage racing and multi team ownership
No big money daddy bought my career kids racing. Blue collar heros who could work on their cars.
I totally agree back then if u were a real race car driver they could drive and work on their car today all u need is a big sponsor and a laptop!!
when did bristol start to really change to what it is now?
