Oh that is such a lovely comment! I do have a lot of fun with history and I think it's more appealing if we can expressed it as a sort of story told around the fire. If we express it with enthusiasm and energy, people we retain a lot more of the information.

I found it particularly compelling to hear about the stick put into the ground with the runes and horse head placed upon it as sorcery -you can't get much more traditional than that! I have found his mother listed as Ragnhildr Olafsdottir, daughter of Olaf I "Morsel" King of Man and the Isles. By accounts, I am seeing his father as Godred Crovan and potentially mother as Maria Haraldsdottir; daughter of Harald Hardrada. I say potentially because I do struggle to find hard documentation on Maria having any children it besides some anecdotal mentions. What I did find, however, is in the Heimskringla it says "King Harald stopped but a short time in Shetland before sailing to Orkney, from whence he took with him a great armed force, and the earls Paul and Erlend, the sons of Earl Thorfin; but he left behind him here the Queen Ellisif, and her daughters Maria and Ingegerd." Ironically, I can see Paul Thorfinnsson through the same link through Ragnhildr which does place her and Godred Crovan in the same place at the same time. Do you see merit to this link?
