I lived with a witch woman for a summer for work. It was a good job, just farm work. She knew a lot of herbs, had a lot of wisdom. I had a lot of strange dreams that summer. She delivered my older brother.
evil people commit heinous actions and many of these actions are hidden under the denomination defense of the faith, defense of the family, among others. this's absolutely human.
Sylvia Federici in her book "Witches, Witch-hunting, and Women" discussed the role of state enclosures on magic and religion coinciding with both a shift in women's place in society alongside a shift in economic/labor relations of the time of enclosures by feudal landlords. I just subscribed to your channel because every time I watch you videos, i open my eyes more and more on the false truth that society wanted me to belive in. THIS woman laughed, but I have a dark sense of humor and fairly clear view of history. We tend to ignore that there is a BIG difference between the worship of a goddess and actual RESPECT for women. Romeo worshiped Juliette's feminine innocence so hard it killed her, but didn't respect her enough to protect her. Loving the ideal of a woman and treating her well are not always concepts that run hand in hand.
You nailed it. Not many people have any clue about what you described. I have felt alone for many, many years. People hate to look at history or question their comfortable ideas as presented in their childhood. You didn't teach me anything I didn't already know, but it is a great comfort to know at least one other person also has read and considered. I would certainly have been burned at the stake, and have had a few close calls in our modern world.
All of this has been marinating in my head for about a year, I know this is an older video, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who saw it, that the Indo-European presence in pagan European pagan religions is super obvious. The Morrigan was probably a local goddess who became married to the Dagda, the sky god, in Irish Celtic Paganism. Freya and Odin and Norse mythos. The titans and Hecate in Greek myth were probably the gods pre-IE invasion, and this doens't even go into all the religions and societies lost to time for now, like the Mycaneans. The way I see it is whichever goddesses and gods are the most reviled/needed to be put in their place in the written mythos were probably the gods/goddesses the Europeans believed in pre-IE invasions, the myth was there to show that they bent the knee, so to speak, to help convert the locals. Bc if their god/ess is ok with it..... You get it
I am from iran and very glad to find you I am psychologist and parapsychologist and teach different languages I have some online classes about shamanism and your lessons are really useful. Thank you very much keep going brother
I have been watching many of your videos on Norse Gods , Vikings and now witches . I was raised Methodist and converted to Catholicism nine years ago . The past few years I have been searching , checking my ancestry , and coming to my own beliefs on religion . Thank you for all your videos but especially this one . I have never heard anyone talk about witchcraft like you have . You make so much sense . I hate that now a days everyone is labeled , people are demonized and then we have the whole cancel culture . It wonderful to see an intelligent , open minded, historically knowledgeable man teaching us about true history . You had me laughing out loud with the , “ I might as well hang myself “
Oh, dear. I think I've fallen in love with you, Arith! At least with your words, anyway. No dancing naked in the woods for we witches here. We have four seasons in northern Canada - early winter, winter, late winter and blackfly season. Thank you so much for all your research and eloquence!
Yes I do believe that we all harness masculine and feminine energy and balance in that, balance in duality, being honest about our shadow, the archetypes of our selves and walking against society and being in touch with the sensitive scares people. The only power that society recognises is that of the leaders of the world. I seek power within and within my spiritual path.
It blows my mind how many neopagans don't do their research and just basically make things up to feel better about what they're practicing. Whether it's the myth of women being equal in all pagan societies, or following heavily christianized versions of things such as Norse paganism. Thank you so much for making all of this information available to help educate people ^^
I couldn't agree more. While studying mythology and history, I have realised what you said in conclusion: it wasn't the arrival of Christianity that demonised women, it was the war-like culture of Indo-Europeans. Christianity only erased what was left of very, very ancient traditions, they were already transformed before that. However, I'm still furious that a huge stone with hollows that was in my area (Masovia district in Poland), a place of ancient worship, was blown up in 1907 on a local priest's orders, because people performed spring equinox rites with prayers and offerings of food there. He used the pieces of this huge stone (over 40 wagons of rubble!) to build into stairs of a local church. Still, I know that in some parts of Slavic lands (Poland included) it was customary to kill the wife on her husband's funeral so that she could serve him even after death. So: Christianity bad, but the pagan past was not all roses either and we shouldn't idealise it.
I'm delighted, I think your work is getting better every day! It meets the interest of your subscribers and matches the expectations. It is wonderful to see the evolution and quality of the content, once again I congratulate you, Mr. Arith.
Thank you so much for this video. This is the best kind of feminism -- the kind that cares for men as much as for women. As an American woman and former Christian I am just starting to explore my true roots, looking to learn more about my animistic, pre-Viking/pre-Indo-European ancestors and the way they perceived reality. This video feels helpful in that endeavor, and the passionate speech in the first 6 minutes or so also feels validating and healing for me, as I have never felt or wanted to be connected to a heritage of violence and domination.
Very wonderful content!! Being from a southern American Christian family, at a young age I realized I do not believe in their traditional Christian beliefs, although I do have respect for all religions. The research, work, and knowledge put into the content of these videos is most helpful. Thank you ❤
I know that your daily work is to prepare with commitment the topics to be presented, it is clear that your level of knowledge on the topics, is the result of much study, much research! Your ability to transmit is without a doubt that of a Master of knowledge! Congratulations!
Very precise. Great showing how Christianity became so, wittingly and unwittingly, antagonistic against peoples' spirituality; the faith of the ancestors.
I adore your videos, so well presented. I do need to bring up the topic of Greek Goddess Hekate. She was a Titan who Zesus let roam between worlds, the sky. earth and sea. She was associated with witch craft. I just thought I'd mention there was one out there in the deity realm who wasn't under male thumb.
I wish everyone, all humans could or should i say, would be open minded to "actually watch and finish" this video. It is exceptional! Thank you for explaining it so eloquently.
This reminds of of some stuff I've studied. In the Śaiva tantrism of medieval India there developed a spectrum of theology/praxis between the polarity of state-sponsored, "right-handed" Siddhānta - which favored the dualistic worship of the male Śiva as a supreme being totally distinct from the world and from individual souls, as well as a strict code of purity and patriarchal and caste-based hierarchies - and the polarity of antinomian, "left-handed" Kaula groups - which favored the non-dualistic worship of various Goddesses as divine powers inherent within the Self, transgressive rites involving impure substances and acts, and social egalitarianism. Some groups fell somewhere in-between these poles, but one of my major areas of research involved two Kaula groups, the Krama and the Trika, the latter of which survived Muslim persecution into the 20th century, albeit in a much-altered form.
🌈Quite a spectrum presented with all of these belief systems, everything and its opposite. _"When it comes to controlling human beings, there is no better instrument than lies. Because you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts." - Michael Ende (German author of the Neverending Story)_ _"Soon the rich, blood based meaning of Varna was entirely lost. Today it is only a division between technical, professional, and other classes, and has degenerated into the vilest travesty of the wisest idea in world history. The later Indian did not comprehend the threefold significance of blood, self, and universe. He saw only the last two." - Dr. Alfred Rosenberg (Myth of the 20th Century)_ _"There is no hope of `putting things right', in such an age. It is, essentially, the age so forcefully though laconically described in the Book of books - the Bhagavad-Gita - as that in which “out of the corruption of women proceeds the confusion of castes; out of the confusion of castes, the loss memory; out of loss of memory the lack of understanding; and out of this, all evils”; the age in which falsehood is termed `truth' and truth persecuted as falsehood or mocked as insanity; in which the exponents of truth, the divinely inspired leaders, the real friends of their race and of all the living, - the god-like men, - are defeated, and their followers humbled and their memory slandered, while the masters of lies are hailed as 'saviours'; the age in which every man and woman is in the wrong place, and the world dominated by inferior individuals, bastardised races and vicious doctrines, all part and parcel of an order of inherent ugliness far worse than complete anarchy." - Savitri Devi (ϟ The Lightning And The Sun 卐)_
Great video, Arith. To me it is like a circle: A survival technique (hunting, warfare, agriculture, trade, you name it...anything that feeds the tribe) develops into a life style, develops into a culture, which is accompanied by principles of spirituality, which in turn often grow into a full blown (institutionalized) religion. And then the whole structure gets too rigid and oppressive or can`t support the people anymore, and the survival struggle starts all over again, changing every step down the path. Taking down everything that wasn`t benficial, but also throwing out a lot of things which, in their core, were wise or strenghtening for the spirit and the community.
“Let no man presume to kill another’s female servant for being a witch (striga or mascam) for such things are not credible to the Christian mind and it is not possible to eat a living man from the inside out.” -- Edictum Rothari "If any one deceived by the devil shall have believed, after the manner of the pagans, that any man or woman is a witch and eats men, and on this account shall have burned the person, or shall have given the person’s flesh to others to eat, or shall have eaten it himself, let him be punished by a capital sentence.” -- Charlemagne, Capitulary on Saxony
Thank you for showing our beliefs through the evidence found, that others are afraid to share. Right now I live next door to a couple of crazy people actually bordering on dangerous. They have tried to have managed and police get rid of us. I am a history geek, I know much has been lost, but I also know over these last few years much has been found. Thank you for bringing the truth out in the open. I shall always follow my hearts path and those that hate, well I also believe karma is a bitch and will hit when least expected. Blessings to you and thank you again.
In India and we've more female deities than Male. And north India is purely indo European. The Norse also had plenty of prominent female deities as far as i know. So did greece and other middle eastern indo European cultures. Worshiping female figures only became obsolete or even evil only after creation of Islam, christianity and Judaism. All religions before them had plenty of femininity in them. But of course males were still more dominant simply cos ancient societies were Masculine. That's just how it worked. In old days survival was difficult and war was frequent. Both of them are masculine. Societies valued physicality much more than emotions and intellect. This is just how things were. Of course today many try to romanticize the old days but originally they were brutal and you don't wanna go back.... Anyway cos of this male domination, masculine deities were more worshipped. And now is the best time to bring a balance....
Im a Basque, our chief god is Mari, a female god of light. The Basque country was once a haven for witches around europe and north africa. Also mari is a goddess of witches as she was once a witch who ascended to godhood, and is married to sugaar a serpent god of darkness.
Thank you for your videos! The more I learn about our spiritual past, the more I learn about my self. Old beliefs that I never questioned before and often wasn't aware of having, suddenly stand unveiled before me in my mind, exposed as the utter nonsense they really are.
Very interesting how things sometimes come together as I was just about to ask you before watching this on your view about the division between cultures where the sun is male and the moon female and vice versa and here you are answering just that.. it's almost like magic ;)
This. So much this. People these days insist magick isn’t real. That’s because they have a fantastical and “Hollywood” idea of what magick is, and we’ve deliberately disconnected ourselves from the divine and arcane, and indeed, nature itself. I want to return to that.
Great video, and so very truthful. I was trained in the Anglo-Saxon school of thought concerning runes, my teacher was Brit. I would like to see you do a video on the pre-Nordic, pre-Anglo-Saxon use of runes, back to the early Celts and Druids. Thank you for all that you do.
There do appear to be some revisionists amongst the pagan community. And a few people who can't tell the difference between paganism and the commercial version of Halloween. I myself am early in my journey and know it is sometimes hard to go beyond what you thought you knew.
Can you discuss Elves in a future video and also Skadi in another? Also I saw your vegan burgers, how were they and which brand of crumbles do you use? Best wishes Arith and keep up the good work, you're a very valuable person :)
Going to talk about elves in the near future hehe :p and the vegan burgers are made from lentils, carrots, spinach, onions garlic (you measure garlic with your heart lol), cumin, pepper, parsley and be creative with other awesome spices :p
Very interesting about the greek, this question what we call being pagan nowadays. But remember Athena who has given her name to the main greek city Athenes was a goddess of war and wisdom. So, the greek woman, a housemaid ? And the main place given by modern witches to Hekate take part to this feminist witch movement. But your video is daring and the witch I am thank you.
The time you speak of is the golden age. The satya yuga. I believe humans lost most of their "sensitivity " as humans became more "material" and when we got our "vegetable" bodies. We are currently in the kali yuga and have been sence roughly 2100 b.c. . All truth is Gods truth. Keep pushing on the wall. The key is inside.
Excellent video and insightful as always. Allocation of power through religion is a stain of history and modern time. We are conditioned through the ages to demonize powerful women & magik but Truth cannot stay hidden that we are Spirit having a human experience and everything /everyone are connected.
Your knowledge comes from an open and wise mind, and certainly from beyond. I would eagerly translate your videos to my pupils and friends into Spanish. I want them to listen to your words, and of course, I agree in spreading your work in my native language...
GREAT VIDEO , EXCELLENT RESEARCH ,the points that you make in this video ,make up my thoughts on your [first witch video ]. your thoughts here make up my argument , that there was unbelievable influence by the Cristian and Jewish community on destroying or altering witchcraft , there for using them as a source must always be taken in context, of there intent. ...thanks again ,fantastic video, great points...my grandmother always told me witch's were mid-wives and healers for local people , her experience was from an oral tradition and went back many centuries in north, western Europe.
You discuss things so well, explaining ideas and thoughts that rattle around my head for a while and providing fact, research etc in an easy to understand way. Ancient Egyptians always appealed to me as the society was more equal all round untill Greece and Rome moved in
Why was powerful women so feared and hated back then? I understand the why it happens now since it destroys the status quo, but why did it happen back then?
One more thing. Could you also discuss the path of the worship of the Jotun/Giants? I forget what it is called, but there are people who worship the Jotun/Jotnar exclusively. Best wishes again Arith :)
In your break you take the time to watch me, that's something! Thank you very much! On my breaks the only thing I can do is read and... Well, that's all I do, I consume books! That's how I survive :o hehe. Thank you for your time!
These videos you are making are very very good. Thank you. Can I ask an ignorant, highly speculative and broad question? Is it possible that the male-dominated cultures of the indo-European arose as a consequence of migrational conflicts? Is it possible that most if not all animistic cultures were at one time rather balanced in perceiving the feminine and masculine powers in nature; and that this balance was lost when conflicts and a new mentality of conquest arose? It's almost what the Native American poet/philosopher John Trudell talks about -- a predatorial disease infected the indo-Europeans, and it's been spreading ever since. (The question itself might be stupid, because it might be clearer to say there is no cause, but only a change in circumstances, climate, population growth, etc. Maybe that new, more grasping frame of mind is just a symptom of a change in lots of things, climate, technologies, population growth, natural complexity. I wonder if we could have had a more insightful response that didn't necessitate this tactic of becoming more self-protective, closed, grasping and abstract from the earth itself, lost, alienated, like we are). Anyways, I'm drifting a little stoned and loving these videos. I guess I'd like to imagine (romantically a little) that history is a record of insights and missed insights, and not a progressive line, lacking any strict path, accept in developing technologies maybe). over and out, thanks.
We should look to the Proto-Europeans, not the Indo-Europeans. Or perhaps we should look farther, if we can but see, to our non-sapiens ancestors the Neanderthals (""Atlanteans") and Denisovans ("Lemurians"). But that may be more difficult. The Indo-Europeans (an Iranic people) were fast talking traders and con men: milk drinking, beer swilling, cannabis smoking, horseback riding, sky god worshipping patriarchal cowboys. Where they could not insinuate, they bullied, driving Proto-European aboriginals from the flatlands into the fringes and fastnesses where environments were inhospitable to their cattle raising horse culture. They coveted the Proto-Europeans' women, and where they could not buy off, trade up, or glad hand they conducted merciless campaigns of genocide against Proto-European males. [Echos of this primordial memory may be discovered in distorted and greatly revised form in the Irish Mythological Cycle stories which concern the encounter between the Tuatha De Dannan and the Milesians.] In short, the Indo-Europeans were what we might refer to nowadays as "a bunch of mortherforkers". Let's not elevate them in our quests to retrieve our collective lost memories.
6:09 do you know about the word salvation? Of course you do! Lol.. the fact that is a ancient Roman soldiers' term for preparation of their leather awestruck me when I first heard about it.
It’s actually shocking to see how little neo-pagans know of the different classes of gods. Edred Thorson talks about the green/black level & the red level & and the white and blue levels.
Where is a good place to start for someone interested in learning more about reconstruction of the old ways without holding a doctorate in scandanavian prehistory! Most of the available literature available (especially in North America) is tainted with post paganism taboo! I just want to properly venerate nature and my ancestors without crossing wires, receiving or giving bad information.
Study Hinduism ....the Puja and Fire rituals are most likely how our European ancestors worshipped and thought. Paganism untouched by abrahamic faiths. Study the Vedas ...then apply what you learn to whatever path you choose.
@Jefferson Davis This man is a blessing to me. He cuts thru the fantasy junk that's out there. I was first drawn to Asatru but quickly realized it was full of the dogma that I was trying to get away from. I would follow this man thru fire and back. Thank you for the link. I will check it out!
Excellent video with many important insights! I appreciate your point that early Christians were persecuted like witches when they were a threat to the Roman state religion. But after becoming the state religion under Constantine, Christians became the persecutors. Beware of institutionalization and state recognition. Keep it simple. Keep it wild.

As an interesting note, the Japanese still worship Amaturasu as the sun goddess from whom the Imperial Family claims decent.
“Let no man presume to kill another’s female servant for being a witch (striga or mascam) for such things are not credible to the Christian mind and it is not possible to eat a living man from the inside out.” -- Edictum Rothari
"If any one deceived by the devil shall have believed, after the manner of the pagans, that any man or woman is a witch and eats men, and on this account shall have burned the person, or shall have given the person’s flesh to others to eat, or shall have eaten it himself, let him be punished by a capital sentence.” -- Charlemagne, Capitulary on Saxony
Thank you again, Arith. Your knowledge and the way you present it is really enriching my life as a newly woken-up witch.
This. So much this. People these days insist magick isn’t real. That’s because they have a fantastical and “Hollywood” idea of what magick is, and we’ve deliberately disconnected ourselves from the divine and arcane, and indeed, nature itself. I want to return to that.
I wish I could double “Like” many of your videos because I find myself rewatching so many of your videos because there is SO MUCH good info!
I love your perspective on this. I was raised Christian but never felt connected to it. Thank you💚
Excellent content. Ty for taking the time to research and present.
This answers some of the questions that had been going around and around in my head lately.
Thank you Arith, great video again. I was catched by the first sentence of course.
Happy Samhain, and enjoy this magic period of the year.
There do appear to be some revisionists amongst the pagan community. And a few people who can't tell the difference between paganism and the commercial version of Halloween. I myself am early in my journey and know it is sometimes hard to go beyond what you thought you knew.
Exactly I think most ladies (when 1st called) find the Halloween type easily. Finding community can be challenging
@@ArithHärger Thank you once again :D
Many blessings Arith! And thank you.
Your best and most important video. Shared on my Me We with thanks!
This was heavy, my brain is still trying to wrap around some of it.
I really enjoy this video! Its really interesting. Like all your video's there is always something to learn. Many thanks 💜 💜
👍💐
Very interesting about the greek, this question what we call being pagan nowadays. But remember Athena who has given her name to the main greek city Athenes was a goddess of war and wisdom. So, the greek woman, a housemaid ? And the main place given by modern witches to Hekate take part to this feminist witch movement. But your video is daring and the witch I am thank you.
I absolutely LOVE your work. You are a fountain of knowledge! This one is my favorite video so far! ❤❤❤
Amazing video as always Arith. Thank you!
Your knowledge comes from an open and wise mind, and certainly from beyond. I would eagerly translate your videos to my pupils and friends into Spanish. I want them to listen to your words, and of course, I agree in spreading your work in my native language...
This video has convinced me that Lilith and I need to have a conversation.
En este amanecer de Yule, tu video es mi sol. Gracias , gracias, gracias. " La bruja"
such a great video again! you explain even witchcraft different from others!!!!
Thank you for your vidoes. While I don't follow the Norse path, I find your insights fascinating.
Brilliant material, thank you Arith for your good work!
I wish this information were taught in schools. Imagine if we all knew the truth from a young age.
I truly feel as if I have wandered into an area I have known, researched and now,, I have found this trancendental location, tribe.
Gratitude~🍃🌳🍃
You discuss things so well, explaining ideas and thoughts that rattle around my head for a while and providing fact, research etc in an easy to understand way. Ancient Egyptians always appealed to me as the society was more equal all round untill Greece and Rome moved in
Why was powerful women so feared and hated back then? I understand the why it happens now since it destroys the status quo, but why did it happen back then?
Even in modern germany the sun (die Sonne) is pronounced in a female way. As the moon is pronounced as a male (der Mond)
One more thing. Could you also discuss the path of the worship of the Jotun/Giants? I forget what it is called, but there are people who worship the Jotun/Jotnar exclusively. Best wishes again Arith :)
He’s done vids on Hel, Rokkatru, and Thursatru
@@thedon68889 I know but Rokkatru does not include the Jotun, neither does Thursatru.
@@thedon68889 Wait I'm wrong, thursatru does include the giants. My apologies :)
so comprehensive! Thank you!
I love watching your videos, still catching up on them all 😊 but its lunchtime where I'm at now and all I want is an awesome sandwich lol🤣
Also Wonderful conclusion to this video.
Great video very important information should be shared by all 👍👍👏👏👏
Thank you, thank you. Perfectly explained! Keep on Arith!
I think this was a great insight into truth, cant thank you enough
Regarding quoting yourself, it it's clear concise and meaningful, certainly!
im a hereditary witch and i want to thank you for this video. i love your channel.
very interesting on stereotypes, as we can call them. i was always more attracted by goddessen who seem to be of their own right like morrighan...
Subbed ,very interesting knowledge that leaves me listening...especially Nordic references from pagan sources..
[Echos of this primordial memory may be discovered in distorted and greatly revised form in the Irish Mythological Cycle stories which concern the encounter between the Tuatha De Dannan and the Milesians.]
In short, the Indo-Europeans were what we might refer to nowadays as "a bunch of mortherforkers".
Thank you for sharing such knowledge with us!
I'm new to your channel. I subscribed and clicked the bell icon! Shared on both my pages!
'ok, u can practice witch craft, buuuut u can ALSO go to the kitchen and make me a sandwitch'. im sorry, but dude is hilarious
Wow this for so surprisingly in favour of women, so rare to hear
Excellent overview, thanks.
Yet another wonderful teaching. thank you so much
Where is a good place to start for someone interested in learning more about reconstruction of the old ways without holding a doctorate in scandanavian prehistory!
@@KortovElphame This is not the first time this path has been suggested to me. It may be worth my time to look into. Thank you
@Jefferson Davis This man is a blessing to me. He cuts thru the fantasy junk that's out there. I was first drawn to Asatru but quickly realized it was full of the dogma that I was trying to get away from. I would follow this man thru fire and back. Thank you for the link. I will check it out!
@ 12:20 yes that was Catholic/Christian
Love the fact you brought humanity into. I've said the same about politics . every ism sounds good until humans get involved.
Glad to have found your channel !
You are truly amazing.... thank you for another AMAZING... no.. BEYOND amazing video!
A beautiful video; explaining many things that are related.
Bravo 👏 I'll try not to poke you with my thorns! Lol! Just now getting to see this, cause life doesn't always allow you stick to a schedule... oi
