- I'm finally reacting to DPR Ian, and I honestly should have gotten to him sooner. He's a gem! Insecure Kenneth message: I felt like I was more nervous than usual -- I think because I didn't know what I was getting into! But I hope you enjoy it regardless!

The fact that he produced the music , write the lyrics, directed the mv and even edit it is crazyy !!! And the way that he interpreted and portrayed all the mental illness in all his song is what made him special

Ok so from what Ian's explained no blueberries is basically about the idea that something small to one person could be a trigger or a monster to someone else. So in the mv ian portrays a blueberry as being this scary monster. That's as simple as I can explain. And yess color is such a huge part of the symbolism. Mito being black, white, and red, Mr.insanity - gold, green, and violet. And he's recently shown a new character in his mv Limbo who's color is blue.
Ok PB&T is basically showcasing what ian describes as "The Other Side" it is the world inside his consciousness that he can access thru lucid dreaming. In the beginning of the mv ian is walking thru doors. Ian explains that in his dreams he sees Many doors all leading to different memories (he said some are truama based memories) so when he goes thru to the dentist office - It's basically him unlocking a possibly traumatic memory. This whole concept is quite complicated so I will leave it there.
Oh! Oh now I feel bad! Cause I feel like I disregarded that scene in the MV so coldly! Not intentionally, but oh no, I feel bad now! That is a very important meaning! OH YOU DID ANSWER HERE! MY BAD! So the creature was the blueberry? Interesting, interesting! I would never have gotten that! Interesting cause he asks the colour about the eyes (If I remember rightly) so if the answerer said green it would be Mr Insanity; if red, Mito? Right? Oooh and there's blue!
He can Lucidly Dream? Wow! I love the layers to this MV! Gosh I really missed so much! I obviously picked some of it up during editing, but on the first view I missed a lot! It is very complicated, but I much appreciate your diving into it for me!

@kennethiain yes the live they prob linked u too is a good one to watch :) he's only directly mentioned his DID like two times i think he finds it hard to talk about, once on that live and the other with say what reacts.
I completely understand that! There is still very much a stigma around mental health conditions, and neurological conditions such as Autism, Bipolar, ADHD, and so on! And so I wouldn't be surprised if it might even be traumatising for him to talk about it more!
He has released 3 album till now, 2 of them "mood swings in this order" and "mood swings in to order" are about MITO and the third one "dear Insanity". Although his art is so personal he portrayed his experiences as a fictional story to make it more understandable maybe, at beginning he just talked about his bipolar disorder to know more about him and Mito character i recommend you check out his interview with Zach Sang it's so interesting. He released a video as Mito movie which is stunning and a documentary "memories in disorder" explaining how he made his songs. About his collab with CL actually he directed and starred in her music video "5 stars" after that she appeared in his first MV (as a solo artist) "so beautiful" and then no blueberries. His other MVs for this era: Nerves (an amazing and sad song which is about his love life and struggles in it), scaredy cat. For dear Insanity album he did an interview with 102.7 KIISFM which is really helpful. He talked about peanut butter&tears and his new album and his disorders. He's released some other MVs for this album: so i danced, don't go insane. And also he released a demo "skins" which Mito "his manic low" completely created in 2 days and Christian released it without mixing it because he wanted it to be raw. And his last MV is Limbo a new character in his story that is something between Mito and mr insanity. (except "do or die" which has released yesterday and is a feat with DPR new artist DPR Artic).he also has released some short videos, teasers, visualizers which are as good as his mvs. There is some other videos like his interviews with some youtubers and his live streams but for starting i thin it's enough to see those 2 interviews:) anyways it's a long journey but it is worth it. Can't wait to see your next reactions to his masterpieces
I think fictionalising his story might make it more palatable to some people. Not everyone is equipped to handle or deal with the reality, so the story helps introduce them to something like Bipolar and DID! There's still a big stigma with mental health, let alone conditions outside of the scope of just anxiety and depression. So Zach SANG, 102,7 KISSFM, Nerves MV, Scaredy Cat MV, So I danced MV, Don't go insane MV. So beautiful MV. Skins Demo. Limbo MV. I do also have the DPR Ian reacts to thirst tweets video, but I didn't want to delve into that straight away! I can't wait either! I just hope that I am more intuitive next time! I feel like I missed and disregarded (unintentionally) so much
@@kennethiain yes exactly and that's why we appreciate him for talking about his mental health so openly. Don't forget about "So beautiful" MV and something about this mv is black&white shots are actually Mito!! He blacked out and switched during recording and it was the first time that they filmed him in that state and later he could see Mito in recordings! Can't wait for thirst tweets:))))

Yay enjoyed this so much thank you for really trying to understand everything. So yes he has Bipolar 1 and recently he also confirmed he has DID (Dissacociative Identity disorder) and this is really important in understanding his artistry. He has the characters of Mito and Mr. Insanity. Mito is depicted with one eye, often black and white, a deep voice - he is who ian becomes in his Manic Lows. While in PB&T is from the Dear Insanity album which depicts Mr insanity - his manic Highs. So yes its very chaotic and colorful intentionally. These two opposing characters are very real in Ian's life but he conceptually shows them to us in his mvs and the whole concept is essentially about his mental health.
the visuals are such a vital part of Ian's artistry because he directs and even edits his videos. I highly recommend MIITO movie pt 1. It's about 8 minutes and is clips of 4 different songs. And it's such a visual masterpiece imo

I'm really glad you enjoyed this! I'm sorry: what is Bipolar 1? I know very little about Bipolar and DID, so I didn't know there were a variety of types!i Forgive me if you say this in your next comment, but is Mito the figure he's going against in No Blueberries or is that who HE is in that video? What I'm getting through this comment is that the lens I was looking at the videos through were not necessarily the one most appropriate, since I missed all these meanings! I love that he puts himself so fully into the music videos!

The character is with one i = mito (also an acronym for moodswings in this order) the mito with two ii - miito is the name of his second album " moodswings into order) either way its honesty fine lol
I will explain best I can im not an expert by any means. But from what I understand people with Type 1 experience full mania while people with Type two have a less severe form of mania called hypomania.
DID is the proper diagnosis for what is known as multiple personality disorder. Meaning due to childhood truama the brain dissacociates fragments of the brain into different personalities. So for ian he says, mito is the 'character' that protects him as he carries his truama. When he dissacociaties into mito he actually blacks out. Hope that kinda explains, if u don't understand fully that's totally fine, I have watched so Many of his streams and interviews where he takes hours of time explaining stuff so if u domt get things if no problem at at :) if u know say what reacts, in his interview with her he explains his DID there quite in depth

The astronaut is a part of the DPR realm. I'll let you find out about it in this journey. And the name DPR VISUALS +IAN means ian's point of view from the front of the camera. (Almost) all of DPR's music videos are directed by ian and he always put his signature as DPR VISUALS +IAN in the videos. It's written as it is if he's behind the camera, and mirrored if he's acting in front of the camera.

Thank you for the comment! Yes he is -- what I'm learning about him as well as what little I've heard from him is proving that. arie, the person who recommended Ian (can we just call him Ian. I feel like I don't know him that well yet 😂) recommended No Blueberries and Peanut Butter and Tears! So it's interesting the points in the lore timeline compared to the others!

Long explanation ahead...
Ian said that Peanut butter & Tears is about finding joy in the adult life despite your past traumas. As you grow older the "jelly" in the Peanut butter & Jelly, that is associated with childhood, turns into "tears". He said that when he sleeps that vast majority of the time he lucid dreams, and in those dreams there are usually a lot of doors. Each door in this music video represents a trauma.
As you've said he has bipolar, but a big part of the story behind his music videos is actually based on his DID. DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) stems from severe childhood trauma before the child's personality is formed. The child then fragments their conciousness creating "different people" in the same body, so then the "new person" can take the trauma for them otherwise it would be unbearable. Each person is called an alter. At first Ian only disclosed that he is bipolar I and he said he created two characters to personify his disorder: Mito (represents his manic lows) and Mr Insanity (represents his manic highs). But a few months ago he disclosed that he has both bipolar and DID with Mito and Mr Insanity being very real alters and not just characters. It all made sense for me honestly (I'm also bipolar I, but he usually mentions blacking out and loss of memory, something that usually is not a symptom of bipolar)
The most recent album "Dear Insanity..." is about how Mr Insanity came to be, that's why Peanut butter & Tears, that talks about his childhood, is there. Peek the times that "Insanity" is written in the screen at this MV. Mr Insanity is usually represented as being colorful and causing havoc. His first two albuns are based on Mito. Mito is the alter that holds his traumas, so he's usually represented as a dark figure/fallen angel in the eyes of Ian. In medical terms he's called the "protector". When Ian is under a lot of stress physically and mentally he blacks out and Mito takes over to protect them. (this process is called "fronting"). All of these music videos are a visual representation of what goes on inside his head since he is the one directing and editing them so it's very personal. Before debuting as a soloist he used to direct MVs for other artists.
For recommentations I suggest Don't go insane, So I danced, Mito movie, So beautiful, Nerves, Limbo but specially his new demo "Skins". Mito wrote, produced, shot and edited the video in two days and Ian decided to release it as raw as it ways. It's a letter from Mito to Ian with his true feelings about holding the traumas for them.
For interviews, probably to watch in your own time I would start with the Zach Sang one (but a reaction would be great). I didn't know that the Alter, Mito, wrote "skins". I really don't know a lot about DID, and Bipolar. I do know of that interview -- I didn't watch it, but I am subscribed to that TH-cam channel. I saw it in my subscription feed, but at the time, because I wasn't yet delving into DPR Ian, I didn't think to watch it! Honestly it's just been the stars aligning lately, pointing me toward his (and his Alters') music! I absolutely will keep reacting to him! Thank you again for watching, and for commenting!

Ian or Christian U is a Korean/Australian singer/producer/writer/composer and video director/editor
Ian made his debut back in 2012 under the stage name Rome
He was the leader and main dancer of the kpop boy group C-Clown
His group disbanded in 2015 and so he created a music and film collective with his friend Dabin who made his solo debut as a rapper called DPR live
Ian became the man behind the camera and so he would direct and edit gorgeous music videos for DPR Live
He then started to branch out and edit videos for artists in the Korean hip-hop/Kpop scene
He's only recently made his comeback in the music scene I believe 2021 or 2022
He's Bipolar tho he also has DID and most of the visuals that you see I his videos are mostly inspired by the things he sees in his dreams
Ian's music and visuals very much have a storyline so I would say if your interested in the story then it's best to start from the beginning and work your way up

Thank you for all the information! I will be checking out the earlier music and moving on through them, and hopefully understanding the storyline as it progresses! This first look was based on two songs I asked to check out, because the commenter believed/hoped I would like them (I did).
Omg when I recommended him I wasn't sure if his music is your taste but I'm glad it is:) can't wait for more:)) I will recommend you some of his stuffs in another comment but for now about "his tooth's been wiggling for years" I think it's about his childhood traumas that still hurting him. And yes he's bipolar and DID disorder. He directs and edits all of his videos and most of DPR videos.
His music is very good! I'll be honest, I was very overwhelmed with the visuals (not in a bad way), so when I was watching this back in editing, I realised I missed a lot. Including, but not limited to the meaning behind the tooth! Since this was a first look, I didn't want to put too much on-screen text and corrections, if that makes sense, cause it's how I was when I recorded, I love the editing and direction. I will be! These two songs were ones I was recommended so that's why these were my first forays into Ian's music. I didn't know there was a story or anything when I was recommended them
This made me so happy :) so as for others have said. He has bipolar one which if I remember right o don’t mean any Harm but I think it’s like on the border of a psychotic disorder on a way. I can’t remember which one so please forgive me. And he has DID. And gas two personalities. I think Mito is the one you will recently see. And if I remember right all the video graphic stuff you see and liked was actually all his ideas and what he did. Because if I remember right for the DPR company which he’s one of the founders he was like behind the camera he did a lot of that. And Ian has a lot to do with his own stuff. He writes his own and mv are his ideas like he does pretty much everything. He’s quite a genius artist. And I love that you said it seems like we are in his mind and that’s how I feel to. I feel most of the videos he’s showing us who he is and what he goes through. Also the first song goes along with the song so beautiful. You should also do the Mito 1 video that someone has mentioned with four clips of songs. And also do the documentary which describes his songs. Usually and I’m still someone what knew to him. But usually from what I get when there is something with his eyes that’s usually Mito coming out. Usually with one white eye and one normal eye that’s Mito. I’m not exactly what Mr insanity looks like visual just yet when he appears. I hope you check out so beautiful and the other two things we mentioned also. Thank you for the comment, and I'm glad it made you happy! I watched one of the archived versions of his live last night, and it was very informational. Also his Mum is a gem -- I don't know her, but she's a GEM! Also loving calling things GEMS at the moment! But yes I've added one of the interviews to my spreadsheet so I can go back to it when it comes to it, and I'll absolutely be continuing! His thirst tweet video will definitely be something I will react to, cause i want to see how he handles it, as a introverted personality!
