Just installed the Carmtek 10 and it works great! Had a little issue with the factory installed handle it was off by 3/16" the would not allow the screws for the plate to align. Contacted Carmtek and they offered up the solution to trim the door enough to allow it to fit or I could send it back for a refund. I decided that making the adjustments would work. Trimmed out the bottom of the existing cut out and it fit and seals as it should.
Thank you for the review!
I purchase the Carmtek 10 digit model and the 20 dollar coupon worked.
I just installed it on my 2020 Forest River Grey Wolf 26RRBL. Fitment was great; and it works good after 1 day so far. I turned off the key fob as I am so used to using keys, I don't need the fob...for now.
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for supporting our channel Bryan!
Thanks!
Thanks for the donation Camilo!
Ross, we bought this a couple months ago and we love it. Was thinking about adding it to our other door.
We are new travel trailer owners and have found your channel extremely useful. Thank you so much for the time and effort that you put into making these awesome videos. I have definitely subscribed and am spreading the word. 👍🏼
Glad to help!
Great find Ross! I just need to convince my wife now. 🙂
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks!
Jeff, thank you for the donation, it is very much appreciated my friend!
I'm digging these locks, you have my undivided attention. Great video, thanks for sharing
Awesome! Thank you!
It's good to know there's another option on keyless entry. We installed RV Lock with the backlighting, and it working well.
Danny and Lynn
Hey guys, been a while! Hope you are both well. Thanks again for stopping by.
I just purchased one for my new Forest River Vibe 34xl. Your videos have made my first experience with my rv phenomenal! I'm in residential construction by trade but I've found working on my rv to be a bit different from a house so your videos have helped me immensely. Thank you so much!
glad to help my friend, and if you dont mind I might have some questions for you when I'm working around the house!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Absolutely! Anytime😉
I finally some free time and installed my lock this weekend and it looks like they have now made the interior levers metal as well 😉 Anyway I'm very impressed with it!
they did make that change, glad you like it.
great video, i too have been thinking of keyless entry and this just sealed it for me. we also have an Imagine camper so installation should go smoothly!
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoyed testing the Latch IT versus the RV Lock on my channel and overall very happy with the Latch It product. The RV lock was decent, its biggest pro is that you can order all the locks keyed the same, not just several like Latch It and Carmtek - so if you have a motor home with 10 locked bays and doors, you can get them all keyed & key fobbed alike - which would be super convenient.
As far as the two features on the Carmtek that are not on the Latch It -- the "low" volume for the buttons and the interior handle lock lever. The second volume option is not something that would sway my purchase one way or the other - both RV Lock and Latch IT have the option to turn off the beeping. The interior handle lock - major pro because you can essentially lock yourself in at night and even if someone knew the code they couldn't get through the handle lock. However, as a parent this is a MAJOR con and the reason I would NOT want the Carmtek - if little kids could lock the doors from the inside and the keypad does not actuate the handle lever that could be a major problem.
Thats the benefit of a free market and different options - folks with no kids would be better served with the Carmtek's extra interior lock - others would not.
Thanks for showing additional options than the major brands that have invested heavily into marketing Ross!
The interior handle lock latch can actually be removed. It’s a simple snap ring holding the orange lever in place…that could be removed if you didn’t want the handle to be locked from the inside. Something I unfortunately thought about after the video was published.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Good to know! Flexibility is beneficial :)
Gander Flight, I had the same concern you did but for my grandchildren. Just as Ross mentioned, I removed the washer and pulled off the interior handle locker. Problem solved! I just subscribed to your channel too!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS is that snap ring only accessible before installing the lock? Or can it be removed/added once the lock is installed?
Our RV key flap literally broke just trying to unlock it on camping trip number 2. Remembered your recommendation and...once again...bang-on right. High-quality, well-made, and since this is a 5th wheel 'glamper', how could I not get the Carmtek 10-key with the fobs?? 😉
Wife loves it. Now looking forward to the trip later this month to Lake of the Ozarks! Thanks again, Ross. Wife and I cannot imagine what we would have done as RV noobies w/o this channel. We're in your debt.
thanks again Jason, see my response to your other comment about a t-shirt.
We bought one based on your review and we love it and to us it’s the best.
Glad you enjoy it!
glad to help!
We have the 8 digit curved Carmtek lock and so far has worked well for us..Ours unfortunately doesn't have the receiver 'on/off' switch so it does go thru batteries quite quickly. As such on our last expedition we had to use the keys to secure the RV, and, well, we could only get the key to work in the deadbolt cylinder not the door handle cylinder..Weird, but, it did secure the RV which is the main thing.Ours is also all metal, which I like. However, it IS heavy and installation is probably best/easiest as a 2 person operation(even tho I did install it by myself, it was a bit of a struggle)...I am pleased with it even with those shortfalls so I am sure this model will do nicely too..
John, I would contact Carmtek about the handle cylinder, its got a lifetime warranty. If you have an issue, let me know, I will speak to the owner to get a new one shipped out to you. I would also suggest putting some Boeshield T9 in the key hole, that helps lubricate and protect the internals. th-cam.com/video/OYhVKgU43lY/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the great video! We appreciate your clear and thorough explanations in your videos!
My pleasure!
Nice 👍. I’ve been looking for a good one to replace the factory lock. I’ll be checking out some of your other videos. I saved this one for when I do order a lock.
thank you!
I just finished installing the Carmtek 10-digit entry door lock on my 2024 Alliance Paradigm 340RL fifth wheel. My biggest problem is "old eyes." I am 75 years old, and my ability to see fine detail is long past. Regardless, I had no trouble with the installation. I finally used some scotch tape to hold the door latch lever in the 12 o'clock position and the lock arm lever in the 6 o'clock position. Made a real difference. PS -- I installed RVLock v4 locks on my two previous towables, and both locks worked just fine. I agree with you, however, the Carmtek lock has a stout, rectangular frame. I like that much better than the curved RVLock design. Lou from Georgia.
thanks for the info Lou, glad you like it, and be safe my friend!
Im having issues finding someone who stocks these. Amazon only showing the keyless pad.
Also are the mechanical locks any different than anything else out there?
currently on back order sorry.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELSyeah I got an email about 30 mins or so ago. Thanks for responding!
Great video. I wish I would of heard of this company two years ago before we got the RV Keyless entry lock. It’s fine but this looks better.
Thanks Chris, saw your new thumbnail yesterday but didn’t have time to watch (didn’t want to hurt the retention rate), so I’ll be checking it out today.
Thanks for the video... We're considering this lock over RVLock... Are you able to lock it by pressing and holding the lock button (without code), like RV Lock? Thanks! -chad
Hey Chad, holding the lock button for about 2 seconds will indeed lock it. No problems whatsoever after a season of use. Thanks for the comment and all the great content… I’ve been watching you for a long time.
Nice work on the review, thanks. Does this use the standard RV keys? I’m concerned about security and how easy it is to get the standard RV doors open. Do you have a solution for that?
thanks, this lock comes with new keys. your deadbolt should always be keyed differently than others.
Can you please advise if carmtek went out of business? Neither your link or their links on their website are working. Would love to purchase their product. T.I.A
not out of business, theres some supply chain issue, to my knowledge, on the locks. They said they should return in the spring of 2025.
Does this keyless door lock control both the handle and deadbolt locks? We somehow locked ourselves out of our travel trailer last weekend while camping and it was the handle that locked on us so we are looking for a keyless entry that controls both. Appreciate your input and thanks for all the great videos!
The fob only controls the deadbolt. To lock or unlock the handle will require a key. I’ve hidden a key somewhere nobody can find it on the outside of my rv just in case. You can also Keep an extra key in your truck. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for the nice comment.
Ordered mine today on Amazon! I have the same make and model as yours.
thanks for watching!
This handle is nice!
We love it!
As always a very well presented and instructional review. We will be at Knobels this weekend and would love to say "hi" if you are going to be there also.
Would love to meet you but unfortunately we are not there until October 21-23. Thanks for the awesome comment Ray, and hopefully we meet up soon my friend!
Did you build that storage compartment under the entrance door?
amzn.to/3SWMr5W
Thanks for the code, just ordered one.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for watching Donovan.
Great video, as always. Do you know if they still make this product? I'm not able to find it on Amazon and that's seems to be the only place to purchase.
CURRENTLY on back order, they should be back in the spring. hang tight.
That’s nice, I think it will fit my door.
I am a summer camper not full timer so the TT is winterized and stored. Will the keys work without the batteries in the lock? I remove all batteries from everything during the winter.
So do I, they will definitely work.
Look great thanks
Thank you too!
Sadly my ATC enclosed trailer door has an opening of 4.75 x 5 inch. 😭 I was all over this lock until I figured it all out. There was a killer deal on it for the holiday.
Ugh, that stinks!
of course my factory door handle looks nothing like either of the ones you showed lol. any other way to confirm compatibility?
one of the pictures should tell you what you need to know in the listing: amzn.to/48dsqha
Ross:
Ross
Silly question but forgot to ask earlier.
Is their a need for a silicon sealant around the outside of this lock or any lock for that matter. Larry
No sir, it’s got a foam/rubber material crush gasket that it comes with.
Hey @Ross, thanks for highlighting this product. I do have a 'key' question thou. Now that you've been using this lock for a while, how long do you find the battery lasts when you use it with and or without the key fob switched on? Do you always use alkaline or have you tried re-chargeable ones, how did they do? Thanks man.
Hey Edward, I have not used the remote at all... but with the transmitter turned off while locking and unlocking every day to make videos, standard alkaline batteries have lasted a year. To use the remote, you'll have to turn on the transmitter and I've heard that will eat through batteries. The nice thing about this lock is it is just a switch on the inside, so its easy to turn on and off as you need it. I havent switch to rechargeables yet. I did that many years ago and wasn't impressed, but have to assume they have gotten better?
Ross
I like the key fob but I assume you can create your own pass code to open the door without the key fob. Right?
Well, my ‘22 ordered Jayco Jayfeather Micro 199 mbs doesn’t arrive until early July.
I don’t know if that lock is compatible with my new RV yet until I can get my hands on it, so I guess I won’t get the discount but it still looks like an excellent lock. And that was one of my early mods I was planning to do anyways. So I hope that it will be compatible. Larry
Larry, you can choose your own passcode, but it has to be 4 digits. Very easy to change. the default code is 1234
i must have missed this question Larry, but yes you just need to use the keypad at the lock to pick your code.
After having this lock for over year now what are your thoughts? Durability? Any issues?
I Chose the "Unpopular" RV Keyless Entry Lock & Here's Whats Happening 1.5 Years Later
th-cam.com/video/6gv9y0PzpsQ/w-d-xo.html
Can one fob open multiple locks? Lets say I put one on each access area and door.
1 remote will control 2 locks.
Do you have an updated link to the 10-Digit Lock? I have tried to use the link provided and access Camtek's site. All amazon links seem to be broken. Thanks for your time.
currently on back order, sorry.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Got it! I will keep checking. Thanks for the reply.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Are they still in the game? Their FB page doesn't even show the keyless locks anymore - only the keyfob....
i have no idea what is going on with them... I have so many people asking about it. i know the back order isnt due to product quality. its such a nice door lock, and i wish people could get them right now. i dont know what the future holds for them at this time.
Hi Ross, just came across your video. Great video by the way. Just curious if you have any diffrent or additional goods/ bads since you've have it installed for a couple months? Thanks!
All working as good as day one. Update video will be coming out after 1 year. No news to report now though.
Thanks for the reply! Ordering mine today!
Hello, a year later do you still recommend this brand of RV keyless door lock?
yep, still works perfectly, they've even released a new version with metal locking tabs on the inside. Here is a link: amzn.to/47z8CE5
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thank you!
Any of these is an upgrade from the factory units
So how is it working after a yr of use?
Perfectly. Might be doing a 1 year review soon.
I has two questions…
Does the electric lock latch both the handle lock and the deadbolt, or just the deadbolt?
How long do you get out of a set of batteries? Are we talking a full season or are you changing them several times a year?
OK three questions… Do they make cam locks for storage compartments etc that I can get keyed to the same key as the door lock?
Thanks!
just the deadbolt
Sorry, didn’t see the other questions. I’m still on my first set of batteries so I don’t know how long they will last yet. And the third, they do not make storage door locks unfortunately.
Hi - Will temperature fluctuations cause function situations? Last year hit 48 Celsius or 118 Fahrenheit and winter minus 30 or minus 22F. Can you turn off the beep sound? Can you use remote control from inside of RV?
Thanks
Temperature would be dependent on the batteries tolerances, not the lock. The remotes work inside and the video addresses the volume levels more clearly.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Thanks for your reply.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
We had a 2010 Bullet and the door lock had 2 different keys, one for the handle and a different key for the deadbolt.
The salesman said that if someone was inside the RV and had the deadbolt locked that he could not get in, so I took that to mean the handle lock was keyed in a way that salesmen who have a master key can get into all campers as long as the deadbolt is not locked. The Carmtek lock has an M stamped on the lock, does this mean that dealers that have a master key, can still get into my camper? The camper I have now has one key that fits both locks but only the handle has a M stamped on it so would the master key fit both locks also?
the "M" either stands for maintenance or master, depending who you talk to. These come with new keys, I have not checked to see if my old key would work on either lock but I doubt it because they come with new keys. If it does unlock this new lock, Ill let you know. Otherwise I am 99% sure it wont. Ill check tonight.
Sir
Do they still make these locks. I can’t seam to find them
currently on back order
Is it safe for a glass RV door?
i dont see why it wouldnt be, but i have never done one on a glass door, so im not sure of your dimensions or if there is anything different about how they install or mount on a glass door.
So frustrating nobody makes one compatible with the gazillion Thor Class C out there now. I'm tempted to gut the whole door to make one fit.
Cris, not sure what you have but see if this one will work: amzn.to/3JtH4FX
Finally went to buy this lock and cannot find it for sale on Amazon or their website. Anyone know what’s up?
just spoke to Carmtek, currently out of stock. Keep checking back.
How can I tell if this lock will work for my door? The handle doesn’t look like any pictures on either side

That was a promo that ended in June 2022. That new price is current, you’re good to go.
I caught it on sale a week later for under $200 on Amazon. The install was quick and easy and we're looking forward to using it the weekend after labor day on our final outing of 2023.@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

you can pick the code you want. its also more secure because its more number options.
I was just talking to the wife about changing our locks…
here is the update: th-cam.com/video/6gv9y0PzpsQ/w-d-xo.html
Can anyone have a 2025 thor Chateau RV that this lock works ?
its currently on back order unfortunately. once its availabe again, there is a fit guide in the listing.
I am saying if you were concerned that bad guys have keys to most RVs that has not changed with this product. or am i missing something? The manual back p keys provided look just like the keys everyone else has.
they are not CH751 keys or keys that will work in a factory lock at all. Additionally, they key their locks differently as they have codes laser engraved into the key if you need back ups. I'm not really sure what you are implying, but as I am reading it, it sounds like you are saying the keys supplied with the RV will work in this lock. That is not the case, and just like all quality locks, deadbolts, padlocks, etc.. they are keyed differently depending on the production run and distribution. Do you have a question?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Well I have always heard that there are only so many keys to the main doors as well. so that's why I ask what is really gained.
i want one for my RV , don't get me wrong.
no worries my friend, but they are completely different locks and keys from factory assemblies. Factory lock keys will not work in aftermarket locks, and vice versa. If someone really wants in an RV, they dont need a key, to be honest. But the remote control and keypad are nice to have.
Hum looks like mine will likely take this lock. Looks good for key spots size and screw pattern. Great PSA for this video. I saw a couple of your videos. I am new getting back into 5th wheels. My last one was in like 1988. humble 22 foot. Now I got a 32 foot. YIKES i can hardly jackknife it into my driveway! Thanks Army Engineers to teach me how to tow. I like the older ones. I am 56. My first 5th was a 1985. I felt safe getting a Keystone 2008. I restored it. Thank you Army Aviation repair. Anyhow your videos got me back in the flow of things. Thanks I am a subscriber and I will watch and like some of your older videos. Thanks, keep up the sharing of knowledge. (‾◡◝) (✿◡‿◡)
awesome, thanks for watching and commenting! Good luck!
Idk what’s going on but they don’t sell them anymore 😢
currently on back order, sorry.
I have the RV lock and while I’m happy with it, I can’t tell you how big of an inconvenience it is not to have digits 0-9 on the keypad
Barr, do the 8 digit keypads give you 8 actual numbers or just 4? meaning do they share the numbers?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS they share numbers but the big problem for me is that there are no buttons for “0” or “9” and one of these two digits were in all the codes I wanted to use
It’s $489 on Amazon Canada, yikes! Over double the price up here 😖.
yikes, thats expensive up there!
Did the company go under ?
no, they are out of stock on all the door locks right now. their other products are still available...i think they are experiencing a supply chain issue with parts on the locks... not sure, but i will update everyone on our TH-cam community page when they are back in stock.
Do you still like this lock??
i do, but it is currently on back order.
As an RV'er..I find a lot of comedy in the fact that we are "so concerned with an all metal lock" which protects 2-1/16 pieces of fiberglass and 1.5" foam.
Could literally carve a hole in the door and stick your hand through to unlock the door.
Carry on!
I just meant that it’s better built and metal will outlast a cheap plastic product, not that it’s going to stop an intruder.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS yeah! No disrespect. Just just highlighting the comedy of it! I too have an all metal one and wouldn't consider otherwise!
No offense taken Kevin. My response probably came off wrong, but just wanted to clarify. I totally get your sense of humor too, and agree. I worked in home security for 5 years a while back and there’s nothing you can do to stop them. The goal is to slow them down or catch them doing it. Cheers my friend, welcome to the channel.
This reminds me of the old adage - locks keep HONEST people honest. For anything you can throw security there is a thug who can teach you how ineffective it is. Do your best and move on.
Can a criminal pick this lock to gain entry?
No idea.
I went to the site but did not give the discount through your link, I would stop saying it will give you the discount! Because you are going to get some pissed off people, I’m a little mad but oh well, didn’t have time to wait for a response, I was going to the river where my RV is located
Dwight, you have to click the $20 coupon box. It works fine. You’re visiting the wrong site or not clicking the coupon. Nothing is wrong with the link or the discount mentioned.
I ordered the lock heater from his link. It works. You’ll need to click the box to get the discount and it apply it when you check out.
When I clicked on the $20 coupon box, it worked for me.
Wheres Alexa?
Jeff, don’t understand your question.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS For some reason seems like none of these locks work with Alexa or google assistant etc... I dont see spending this much cash for something without it .. I would like to Geo-fence it so when I get X feet away from my trailer it will auto lock and unlock when I'm in range... I have finally seen a brand that uses your cell phone VIA.. An App however it doesn't seem to be alexa.. google assistant .. compliant ... they have home smart deadbolts and things that are but RV locks seems to be behind
No thanks, much better ones out there.
Better how? What is better than a keypad that has worked flawlessly? lol. Please define better… better as in which benchmark?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Not taking either side in this. But if there are better options, please post that. Most of us are here for advice or to see reviews.
If I knew of a lock that I felt was better before installing I would have done a review on that. RV Lock brand was notorious for the keypad cracking. Along with that brand, other brands like Latch It only offered 8 numbers. This Carmtek lock offers 10, a latch for the deadbolt AND the handle, and the keypad doesnt crack. On top of that, it has worked flawlessly for 2 years now. This is the best option, in my personal opinion. Unfortunately they are on back order until the spring.
I have the camtek remote type, it lasted less than a year and is now just a regular key opened latch. Waste of my money 😡
What brand is yours? If you had a Carmtek it would be covered for life.
Does the manufacture include a spare (replacement) keypad? Having had one in the past, I'd like to have one as a spare in case, or more realistically, when the one on the lock cracks.
Norris, he mentions this in the video during unboxing.
Thanks!
Brother, I don’t know what to say… thank you SO MUCH for the generous donation, it is very much appreciated. I’m on vacation but when I get back I’d like to send you a T-shirt. Thanks again my friend!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Like I said: We're in your debt (see comment below). Just saw the heart with a $ on it and clicked. Cool way to say 'thanks' in a tangible way. There was so much we didn't know getting into this RV'ing 'cult' 😆-- and now realize all the things we should have known/said/asked. Your straight-forward tips have made learning so much easier -- especially the Snappads, winterizing, dewinterizing, maintenance and -- most of all -- that darn RV mattress from Brooklyn Bedding. Gamechangers. Rock on and enjoy your vacay!
