Laurie's picks: The Magician 3 Films: My Dinner with Andre, Vanya on 42nd Street, and A Master Builder My Winnipeg Design for Living White Dog Sunday Bloody Sunday Trilogy of Life I Married a WItch Tout va bien
+Infametheus They should take inspiration from Bela Tarr for these videos. I want to see them walk slowly to the closet, stare intensly for a few minutes and then start picking for an endless amount of time. No cuts of course.
I love her so much. Ahhh these are so cool! IT pains me to watch these in a way, because I sold much of a my nearly complete (pre-bluray-era) Criterion Collection, I had about 248+ or so of them, almost all of them released up to that point. And I know many of them are streaming now, and downloadable etc, and the reason I sold them is a rather dark one; heroin. I'm 4+ years clean now thankfully; but much of my record collection and for the most part ALL of my DVDs and some guitars and amps were all sold throughout the worst of it. Thankfully my life is happy and joyous and infinitely beautiful now, and yeah, they're just 'things', but I still miss seeing those racks and racks filled with spine-number cataloged collection at my disposal. Had all the Out Of Print ones too. Oh well, life goes on. RIP Lou

Totally agree! I wouldn't care WHO released it, just get it out on dvd so we can have it. Have had it on LD for years but don't have a working player anymore. Sad.
Somebody once asked me why I wanted to be a director. I showed them one of these videos and told them 'Ya see that. FREE FUCKING CRITERION DVD'S! THAT's why I want to be a director!'
OOOOOOOH! OOOOOOH! That Wallace Shawn trilogy now has me thinking of a Whit Stilman trilogy boxed set! *gasp* Holy shit, that would be AMAZING. All they need is BARCELONA!
Watching these videos makes me feel bad cause I don't get to go there, I look at the shelves and visualize myself taking my own choices but it only happens within the confines of my own head, sad. :.(
+Adam Herbst That's actually not a bad recommendation, but I think it skirts that "masterpiece"/"schlock" line too closely for them to make a safe decision. Added to which, we don't know if the current copyright holders would be willing to divest rights for just the one film.
+D'Ascoyne If Criterion opened up their treasure closet to film EDITORS, we'd see a whole lot of women in there. =) Obvious fantasy: think if they had a time machine in there. Could shuttle filmmakers from the past into that very room. Portal to heaven? ;)
I am available for a closet session anytime, if, however, you find your schedule a bit packed, I could be coerced into accepting an Essential Art House 50 Year Set. Lets talk!
I love seeing people get so excited over movies!
Laurie's picks:
The Magician
3 Films: My Dinner with Andre, Vanya on 42nd Street, and A Master Builder
My Winnipeg
Design for Living
White Dog
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Trilogy of Life
I Married a WItch
Tout va bien
Legendary screenwriter/director Preston Sturges somewhat assisted Rene Clair to adapt to making movies in Hollywood.
Didn’t you forget Quadrophenia
Am I the only one who watches these over and over... and over?
+jollestudio1 Nope! I can't get enough of them, I wish they were longer!
+niptuck117 I do too! I've watched the Wallace Shawn/Andre Gregory one and Guy Maddin one the most
nightgoat293 I'm obsessed with the Wim Wenders one.
jollestudio1 No!
Nooooooooo
"We're locked in. This is fantastic!"
Love ya, Laurie!
Laurie, one of the most brilliant artists alive. Good taste and sensitivity
I always wish these videos could be longer. They're so great!
It real is too bad they edit so much out.
+Infametheus They should take inspiration from Bela Tarr for these videos. I want to see them walk slowly to the closet, stare intensly for a few minutes and then start picking for an endless amount of time. No cuts of course.
TheTachy0n
speaking of Tarr, we need him on the Criterion Collection!
Infametheus
Yes indeed! Satantango, Damnation and Werckmeister Harmonies would be instant purchases for me.
“MY WINNIPEG. I’m not gonna take it because I have it... in many forms.” This woman is too much. I bow down to her.
I love her so much.

Congrats on turning your life around, hope you're still doing well, and that you managed to rebuild some of your collection in BD format
You rock! You must be an immensely strong interesting person as a whole. Someone I'd love to be friends with in real life.

Laurie Anderson is one of the most amazing humans. I saw her speak as well as perform and it was such a treat!
oh my god she's so awesome
Just watching Laurie pick movies out of the C. closet is like viewing a great film! Amazing artist!!
Amazing how many get excited when they spot Bergman's The Magician. Great movie.
If Criterion released "Home of the Brave," I would absolutely lose it.
Home of the Brave would be great period. From Anybody! It only lives from Japanese Laserdisc rips. That and Tom Waits' BIG TIME need releases!!
Slighly off topic but I would lose it if Lost In Translation ever got a Criterion release
Totally agree! I wouldn't care WHO released it, just get it out on dvd so we can have it. Have had it on LD for years but don't have a working player anymore. Sad.
John Plasket why is that not on DVD? It makes no sense.
@@isaacgarcia2101 Didn't it...the one with Bill Murray, right? I thought it was on Criterion.
She seems like such a lovely, down to earth soul :)
Laurie has such a wonderful personality! :D
For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who would acknowledge "I Married A Witch."
Guy Maddin is Winnipeg's most famous film maker. His My Winnipeg was one of her
picks!
Criterion should release Laurie's concert film _Home of the Brave!_
My Winnipeg! Yes!
She's still so passionate. So hard not to love her.
I've been saying this for some time but maybe Criterion could give "Home of The Brave" the HD treatment.
i love her beyond words
Haha, I'm just glad IMDB exists, so I can check these titles I've never heard about out.
She picked my favorite movie, I MARRIED A WITCH!
Is her film Heart of a Dog in that room? If it is, it's one of my picks.
She picked some great stuff.
Somebody once asked me why I wanted to be a director. I showed them one of these videos and told them 'Ya see that. FREE FUCKING CRITERION DVD'S! THAT's why I want to be a director!'
She is so cool and also quite lovely ❤️
LA is the best! Love her always...
pure divine light for a soul
she must be protected at all cost
This woman is my hero.
She's like a kid in a candy store, too adorable!
Laurie is brilliant.
If he were still around, I wonder what Lou would've taken from there.
Aaron Conn I know man, Rest In Peace.
This is golden
Gotta add that someone should've told her that Guy Maddin was in that same library being far greedier than she was
How come Criterion hasn't released Laurie Anderson's "Home of the Brave" concert on DVD/BluRay yet? It's only on VHS.
People should be grabbing Roy Andersson films. But the Lubitsch grab was sweet. Second time White Dog taken!
uhhhhh ok...I cant resist, brilliant woman
This is the picture (excellent birds).
RIP Lou Reed.
The encoding on this video looks like the encoding on a Criterion Blu-ray - macro-blocking galore!
suggestion- list the movies selected
OOOOOOOH! OOOOOOH! That Wallace Shawn trilogy now has me thinking of a Whit Stilman trilogy boxed set! *gasp* Holy shit, that would be AMAZING. All they need is BARCELONA!
+Theomite ;)
Haha, she looks like a kid opening her presents under the Xmas tree....
It would be great if Criterion issued a Closet disc ala the 3 Reasons disc. I would buy it.
holy shit dude laurie anderson in the box
I read Laurie Anderson picks out DVDs and was like I HAVE TO SEE THIS
Watching these videos makes me feel bad cause I don't get to go there, I look at the shelves and visualize myself taking my own choices but it only happens within the confines of my own head, sad. :.(
There's always a silver lining to bad situations ;) =D
😂 Laurie is great.
I passed her on the street years ago waiting to see Hellraiser (maybe it should be on Criterion)
+Adam Herbst That's actually not a bad recommendation, but I think it skirts that "masterpiece"/"schlock" line too closely for them to make a safe decision. Added to which, we don't know if the current copyright holders would be willing to divest rights for just the one film.
is the first woman in here? xD
Yes, weirdly enough.
I knew it! XD
+D'Ascoyne If Criterion opened up their treasure closet to film EDITORS, we'd see a whole lot of women in there. =)
Obvious fantasy: think if they had a time machine in there. Could shuttle filmmakers from the past into that very room. Portal to heaven? ;)
Er, she's somewhere in between, perhaps. An androgynous half-human/half-droid.
I love Criterion and I love her. But in this video, in particular, she gives me such ASMR, as well, LOL.
Tingting's youtubes, especially her Chinese Princess ones, are amazing ASMR examples.
what's the length/width of that closet ?
1:37 She reminded me of Billy from dead silence.
People are so....restrained!
Dvd old school!
Laurie is great but,
Can we get Loni Anderson's picks?
8 1/2 has probably the best opening scene, not Sunday Bloody Sunday.
None of the Superman movies?
You must mean ' O Superman'.
oh, she got good stuff and... oh she wanted "quadrophenia". i like her taste.
I agree, Who can blame her ? I have that film in my collection as well, it's awesome!!!!😆
Love it. Love, The Who! Love Reign O'er Me! Love Ringo in it. He's neither a mod or a rocker, he's a 'mocker'! 😎🤘
I fucking love your videos
I read this as Louie Anderson and was like "um...ok...that is a weird pick"
I don't know about that. I'm sure he watched movies, too. RIP, it's a shame he died earlier this year.
Few know that they're related, so you're onto something.
@@whatevershebrings If that's the case, then which one would be the prouder relative?
I am available for a closet session anytime, if, however, you find your schedule a bit packed, I could be coerced into accepting an Essential Art House 50 Year Set. Lets talk!
Uhoh, lights went out. It's Sharkies Night.
All of nature talks to her...
What? She left without considering "Le 400 Coups"?
That's a great movie.
Wonder what her late husband Lou Reed would've picked.
She’s just shopping! 😂
pineapple or schoolbus?
Merci awasococim@
I'VE CUT MYSELF OFF FROM WATCHING ALL HOLLYWEIRD FICTION AND DO NOT MISS IT AT ALL.
You have to get Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino in here they’re geeks lmao
Ha haaa that wasn't about Laurie Anderson's 'insight'....we just watched her go shopping. Or rather, helping herself.
Most of the people and obscure movies should stay in the closet. In a hundred years or so nobody would be interested in watching movies anymore.
Get Brie Larson in the closet
Love to!
