Good little tutorial. Just got a Realistic Concertmate-500 (the Radio Shack clone of the Sk-1) and plan on working on an Autechre-like techno album with it.
Jan 2023: Loved mine - got it that same holiday it came out - '85 or '86? Muffly 8-bit sampling but was a hit at family reunions and just experimenting around. Eventually found a used SK-5 and enjoyed it similarly. Wish I didn't sell them 20 years ago on Ebay. :/
@@mattmink6491 My first electronic huge with reflex speakers general midi in the drum pads .2 voices in the sequence arp but only on 2 sounds -square wave pattern and a awful (to me) saw pattern .I wouldnt call it a synth as u couldnt de tune the saw and it has no knobs to turn like attack. Ect.The best thing id use it today as its in my dads cupboard ,is the synth strings pads .808 state used one in Pacific state some casio.I like the techno sound on rhythm sounds .its named ENCA when its played on it own -very powerful sound
Thanks Matt! I've had a circuit bent sk-1 for about 5 years (my favorite piece of gear I own) and somehow never took the time to learn how to use the envelope select feature. The circuit bent features provided enough of variety but now I'm excited to incorporate envelopes and see what kind of new sounds I can come up with.
Ive recently found one of these on my local marketplace. I like to use it as a chord base with my Casio VL-1 and it really sound dreamy/lo-fi, 80s' vibe. So far, I havent used so much the sampling function, bc on board sounds are very useful for the music Im trying to make
god I love the sk-1. It has such a homey welcoming sound, and when ever I hear anything come out of it I feel safe. it's a bummer they're so damn expensive, but I understand why

@@leopardtuesday8140 wish I had the money to buy it but I ain’t worked as a musician since March 10 last year and will not do so until I have had the vaxine against this stupid virus. Still I have an uno, a crave, a ms101, a model d, a microKorg, and a triton taktile plus over 100 ipad synth apps to keep me going. Back in the 1980s they used to sell cardboard overlays for the gen to Mark off your patch settings, in the days before mobile phones and digital cameras. If I create any patches i want to keep on my analog gear I just sample to my iPad which has the added advantage of allowing me to use them polyphonically
You can make some mellotron type of sounds with these old Casio samplers.. the stock presets aren’t all that but add some cool samples and some reverb and you can make some awesome lofi sounds..👍
Brass Ens is my favorite SK1 sound which is a 8bit resample of the CZ3000/5000 Synth Brass preset. I do love that sound along with the drums. I own this keyboard still and the SK2100. Take a guess which one I prefer to play with?
Some of the intruments especially pipe organ sound huge through a bass chorus pedal (i had to pt the vibrato off for it to sound good with chorus though)
Thank you! I ran it through my Teisco delay and hall of fame reverb pedal! The chords were played on the D-50 then sampled into my volca sample. The synth pad is from my Kawai K3 :)
prophet5 your hilarious thanks for this :) alsooo i accidentally came across a beach house organ trick by double tracking organ with vibrato that is organic and therefore beats against the other organ's vibrato then it seems thats how they got some of their sounds. esp farfisa obv. did that make any sense?
Yes that makes total sense! I’ll have to try it with the Casio, but i do it with my tape delay all the time and just slightly adjust one sides delay speed and it sounds so cool! Cheers!

Hi there! So the Casio has both a 1/4” input and an aux input. To connect my synth i just used a guitar cable (1/4” cable) between the two, via the mic input.
Matt Mink thanks Matt! So to clarify you plugged your guitar cable into the mic input not the line input? And did you have to adapt it to 3.5mm as I don’t think the Casio’s inputs are 1/4 inch
Hello I'm trying to find a power supply for this synth after buying a deceptive one listed for casio sk-1 that doesnt even match the voltage, what power supply did you use?
No , not at all ,just use your phone , and on android get caustic, on iPhone get GarageBand , these old things are just for certain frequencies that you can not get any more , they are very lo fi , you can easily replicate these sounds on your tablet or phone

Does anyone have any tips on making the Juno sound around the 5 min mark? Very new to synths but I own a microkorg and I want to remake something similar to that. Sounds like a Sin wave but I don’t really know where to go from that.

Yes, mine luckily came with the owners manual, so i got to RTFM. There’s also an additive synthesis section.

It’s a very simple synth so you won’t have any trouble learning how to use it, however you won’t learn very much about synthesis either 🤷♂️

Hmm... all i do is hit envelope select and then hit the key on the keyboard that has the envelope shape i like above it!
