I really enjoyed everything about Rise of the TR, and this is looking to be just as great of an adventure title. The developers have put a lot of love into this series, I'll be buying day one.
Soji SideQuest Just a shame it’s not as open world as ‘Assassins Creed Origins’ finding the tomb equivalents in ACO is a real treat and the way the story and size quests work make the title worth its price tag.
I played the last two games pretty extensively, and I'm 20 hours into Shadow (I'm not close to the end though, as I explore as I go, so it takes me forever to finish these games). So far, I enjoy this one the most by far. This feels more like "tomb raider" to me, going back to the more puzzle heavy style, like the TR games before this new trilogy. I play these games to explore and see tombs, I don't care much about the standard overworld, and I find it less fun fighting humans. I like Lara out in the wild, where you are more concerned with how to finish a tomb or trial, and fighting animals. I love the emphasis on being in tombs in this game. I also think that Lara is more interesting in this game, she seems to have a bit more personality. In the previous two games, Lara felt pretty...empty, for any personality. In this one, you can see that she's uncomfortable and a bit anti-social with people, she seems to have a little more of the sarcasm I expect from Lara as well. It could certainly be better, always, but I like Lara in this one a lot more than the previous 2 games. I think Having Jonah to play off of helps a lot, since when they are together, the game can show her personality more. I didn't think I would like having another character around that much, but Jonah feels right to me - the way they get a long, and he's never around so long that I get sick of him. I don't know what is going to happen to the TR games after this, since it's billed as a trilogy, but my hope is they keep a realistic feeling in the future, amp up the trials, tombs, traps, puzzles, focus more on worrying about creatures instead of human enemies, and get more of Lara's sarcasm and wit in the future games. These games feel "so close" to being truly great, they just need some better writers. I wish that somehow we could put the wit and writing of an Uncharted game into the action and gameplay of Tomb Raider.
I am impressed with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's consuming me in very similar ways that God of War did. The world exploration, design, story, combat, traversal etc all ties together flawlessly and feels very engaging. I will actually be going back to try the other Tomb Raider games because of Shadow.
The tomb exploration, when you were solving puzzles, reading manuscripts, climbing walls, those to me were the best moments of rise, so I'm glad to hear that shadow focuses precisely on that
Its most certainly worth a play-through. I actually thought RotTR was better overall than Uncharted 4. U4 had better characters and cutscenes but the gunplay, climbing and basic crafting and exploration in Rise just put it ahead in my opinion.
As a fan of the tomb raiding in Tomb Raider (yeah, im that radical), this game is a must buy for me. Nevertheless, Rise was pretty balanced betwing action and exploration/tomb raiding IMO, much better than the 2013 game.
Well im the "don't care about the story" kinda guy. Just the "you're in the jungle, bad guys want to kill you. You must scape the jungle" idea is enough motivation for me. The specifics can't remember, don't care. Story is not a factor in game reviews for me.
I have both sitting next to my PS4 unopened... I'm still playing Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Heck, 600 hours in past games means I'm barely even scratching the surface. I might still be playing MHGU when the next generation consoles release.
Is it just me, or is the first game in this trilogy the best? I actually found myself disliking the open worldish exploration stuff. I liked the linear more story driven experience of the first game. The second and third lack it. The exploration in the first one was spot on to me. Maybe it comes down to how I play. I’m a completionist so I do 100% of the possible things before progressing the story. It can be a real drag on the game when I devote an entire day to doing side things or just trying to get that exploration percentage as high as currently possible and I don’t manage to progress the story at all.
I can totally understand the lower amount of fighting in this one... people whined incessantly about 'too much killing' in both of the previous games. Focusing more on exploration, challenge tombs and culture? Sign me right the hell up! Ace review as always Karak, nice to get your thoughts on it before release!
I am one of those whiners. I've played Tomb Raider ever since the first game came out (yes, I'm old).. and what got me hooked was the exploration, tombs, puzzles etc. As the series has evolved, it's been a struggle balancing fighting and exploration. I'm hoping this one nails it.
ljungan96 Uncharted games were like that from the start. Tomb Raider was not. So, instead of honoring the legacy and strength of the series, they made a pale Uncharted clone..
ljungan96 to be honest. I wasn’t digging the other tomb raiders bc it felt like it was trying to be uncharted. More or less, but I think it was in the action and amount of gunplay. It felt like It was hyper focused on combat
The problem you mentioned with the jungle location being repetitive after a while is one of my biggest problems with the first two games of this trilogy. The first was all muddy, grey and Brown island and the second was mainly snowy mountains except from the beginning.
When I buy games i carefully research them, watch gameplay and reviews. 50-60 bucks is alot of money so I want to enjoy the game I play. I ALWAYS watch your reviews if i research a title and it always helps me alot to get an idea since you really cover everything. So I thought this guy deserves a sub sorry it took so long. Here is my sub to your channel. Kepp up the good work!
You definitely have the best game reviews on TH-cam. They aren't too long and you do a great job of giving your opinion on the games while also doing a pretty non bias review, keep up the great work.
If i had a positive to give for this game, the exploration and tomb raiding is great stuff and definitely will get fans excited. But it also has too much busy work of collecting, continuing the Creed's style of gameplay but not in any fun way, and the story is a bit of a mess to go through as well as not having anything interesting happen in its entire middle act.
Rise of the origin of the beginning of the Tomb Raider 3. The third game that's supposedly about Laura Croft "becomming her own character." Haven't they been saying that for every game since the first reboot?
I think people are expecting her to eventually be the dual pistol toting Laura in one of these games but I don't think that's ever going to happen. She's not ever going to be that same Laura in this reboot. Maybe they'll add dual pistols as fan favoring. But I think people are assuming too much.
I like this game, looks absolutely gorgeous too with max settings. For those who don't like Lara's character personality this series.. While I can understand why it's fun to play an over the top badass, I find it refreshing to play a character that actually has confliction and emotional depth sometimes. It feels more relatable.
Surprisingly underrated trilogy of games. Great stories along with just the thrill of adventure that comes from being in uncharted/forgotten lands and going into ancient tombs is just such a blast. Heck some of my favorite moments in the previous games come from finding and collecting artifacts because I’m a big history nerd.
Dude, I gotta say... You have such excellent reviews! I really love how in-depth, structured, and enjoyable they are. You spend time with these games and really give them a fair and nuanced review. It is the kind of content that many on TH-cam and in journalism can learn from. My highest praise to you :)
@@Moostar95 Cause he disagreed with you on one game right? Yeah that's right. I can't wait to see you dumb-fucks call ACG a shill when he praises a game you don't like.
Karak Thank you as always :) You remain my first go to for independent in depth quality reviews as even on games you like and love you always let us know the negatives no matter how small so we can decide for ourselves. An as always thank your Patrons so you can do your channel your way and make enough $ when you tube has gone crazy to make this a viable business for you. An hope your weekend was a good one.
My pc probably csnt even run this on lowest settings, it struggled with mostly low settings on ROTTR, the lighting is what made it stutter so much. 1 ran perfect
It sounds like they are gradually edging closer to the open world Tomb Raider of my dreams? I would love to see a game where there's actual investigation, where learning the location of a tomb or how to deal with a certain death trap would be part of the gameplay loop. Anyways, thanks for the review, guess I won't cancel pre-order before I see how it runs on my PC.
Tomb Raider has never been open world, and it would be terrible if it were. Open world games suck. They're mostly pure boring repetition. It's amazing that some people still haven't learned and keep asking for more open world games.
exactly mgs5 kinda did free to roam open world sort of...and that shit was anything but a mgs game. Just didn't have the feel anymore...so i never finished it. Just goes with saying some games are better with open world kept out of them. However, i feel there is a way tomb raider could exploit this, but they have to really know how. If done in the right way it would be an EPIC tomb raider
Playing it and I find it better than Rise. The story for me it’s more interesting, as well as Lara as a character. Combat stills pretty much the same, but stealth options are vastly improved. Exploration and puzzles us where the game really shines. I think people expected a more action-focused game, like the two previous games were.
I wasn't a fan of the Snowy environment in Rise, let alone the story which was a big meh, I loved the 2013 Tomb Raider much more cuz it was more authentic while Rise copied alot of it especially in the story element, Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the other hand looks more interesting to me since the south American jungles and cities look more alive and organic compared to that of Rise, I just hope that the story won't be weak as Rise...
Somewhat agree. I loved the first TR reboot. It was dynamic, and the story was compelling. 'Rise' however was mostly dull, and not just because of the environments. The sound effects were lacking, the puzzles kind of dumb, and Lara's character didn't really develop in it. Most of all, I hate that it's so military combat oriented. Lara's supposed to use her hand guns as a last resort, not rampage through a camp with an assault rifle on her back. If I wanted the latter, I'd play Call of Duty. I've played about 3 hours of 'Shadow,' and other than a different environment, it's pretty much just like 'Rise,'--no dynamism, no interesting character development, and most military combat. It all becomes repetitive, with not that many options. I'm yet again disappointed.
From someone that finally finished it, it's a pretty dull story for most of the run time. Starts strong, drags in the middle act when you enter the main hub of the game, and only becomes action driven by the end of the game. The setting isn't really that interesting and lack that sense of world building and intrigue that the first game did extremely well.
I dig the review, and I've been a bit on the fence about SotTR as I got tired of the endless slaughter of enemies in the last game. Shadow focusing more on exploration sounds great to me. Thank you for all your hard work, I am contemplating joining your patreon and you're the only one I'd even consider.
I've been a fan of the Tomb Raider games since the original title released back in 1996. However, it was the 2013 reboot that really got me into the Tomb Raider games. It gave the franchise the revitalization that it needed. The reboot humanized Lara Croft and it turned her into a believable person that was put in a believable world. Rise of the Tomb Raider came out two years later and I enjoyed it just as much if not more than it's predecessor, which was solid in it's own right. Fast forward three years later and the final entry in the reboot series releases with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. From what I've seen in the review so far, the game looks enjoyable. The underwater sections play a major role this time around, especially when eliminating enemies stealthy. The weapons do sound a bit better when compared to Rise of the Tomb Raider. Visually, the game looks pretty good. The story seems intriguing. In fact, I per-ordered the game back on August 3rd and because I had Amazon Prime at the time, I didn't have to pay the full $60 price tag. It's been a great week as far as new releases are concerned between this and Spider-Man. Red Dead Redemption II and Assassin's Creed Odyssey come out in October. 2018 has been an amazing year for video games that's for sure. With that aside, thanks as always Karak for another great review. I really appreciate it!
Good review as usual, Karak. I think Square Enix should take a break from Tomb Raider, for three, four years? The series is at a good place (for a reboot), so I feel they should take time off to innovate and come back stronger than ever? Franchise fatigue is what killed the original TR series, so now they have a chance to keep Lara Croft and her adventures relevant by not recycling the last three games.
I can hardly see franchise fatigue when a game comes out every 3 years. 3 years is one century of a difference when it comes to computers and technology. This is a trilogy and tbh you make those games and the formula in that case somewhat similiar, because those should feel connected. The games in general are good games. Not amazing, but good. The story in this reboot was always the weak point though, but tbh i coulndt relate to Nathan Drake as well, because joking with your wife, while running trough a jungle filled with people that try to kill you and you in turn kill them isnt something i could relate to. Example: "Hey can give you me a hand over there,..." "Yes, just a sec." " No problem, i just need to shoot these guys over there in between, be right next at ya." "KK, but dont let me wait too long." You get the point. Chitti Chatta between killing doesent make it more reliable for me, than the dead seriousness of Tomb Raider.
SaithMasu12 You dont need to connect to nathan drake tho he’s a anti hero, joker, sarcastic and selfish person thats what make him a better character than lara!If you watch all the indiana jones movies you will get my point!thats why uncharted games has always be a better game because the main characters are always fun to play!
They need to take a look at that Tomb Raider II fan remake and ideally do something similar to Crash/Spyro (a classic remake collection). I enjoyed Tomb Raider: Anniversary but it lacks in graphical detail.
The only reviewer I pay mind to. Great work. I'm sure there are a few reviewers out there that are respectable. Its refreshing to see a reviewer actually review the game.
My biggest complaint of the recent TR games was the lack of tombs/puzzles and that kind of exploration, this seems right up my alley now, but damnit I'm playing through Spiderman right now lol, then there's RDR2 coming up, such a tough choice, might hold out and save this for Christmas.
Currently playing this on Xbox One X. I'm old enough to remember playing the original game on PS1, and in my opinion, this nails the feel of the original. Less combat, more exploration makes for a better Tomb Raider. The graphics on X are outstanding, as well.
Almost every comment section, on every video relating to tomb raider, made me loose my mind. The amount of annoying "hardcore TR fans" bitching about how boring the game is, and how Lara has no personality is ridiculous beyond believe, and their reasoning behind it is even more ridiculous.
For me though, I love sunshine and green. My complaint of the last game was too white/grey. I thought , like the first, it would move locations (not including the opening in Rise). But as far as locations it is realistic in both of the last games, and I’m ok with that. Although I don’t mind a fictional location, as long as I get diversity in my scenery. To each their own
10:53 Lara shoots the arrow.....[Death] that descriptive subtitle..... NPC be like.. why me?!...... [death]..... (just find it hilarious)... great review Karak! Hope they make an Open world Tomb Raider where you can climb almost anything(just like BOTW) and add First person perspective... that'll be a game changer...
Awesome review. I mean I knew I was gonna get the super CE anyways, since I have every tomb raider out of blind loyalty even when I am unsatisfied, but your review made me not feel bad about it anymore haha. The other tomb raider kinda disappointed me since they don't feel as much like the old ones. Sounds like they're hearing their long time fans complaints for sure which is a relief
I only played the first one in this trilogy. Will give Rise a go and see how I feel. Sometimes more of the same is not necessarily bad if you liked it in the first place. Big Uncharted fan, as well. I wouldn't call this the best graphically, particularly with some of the PS4 exclusives coming out lately, but calling this 'very poor' graphically seems to extreme for me. Some of the underwater bits look fantastic. Anyway, graphics become secondary when you're gripped with the mechanics of a title.
I am *SOOOOOOOOOOOO* thrilled that they came up with the "exploration tags" on/off thing! This has always frustrated me to an incredible degree about the new _Tomb Raider_ games (and many other games for that matter, like _Horizon: Zero Dawn_ ). They immerse me in these absolutely beautiful, hand-crafted locations, then snap my immersion like a pinky finger at the bottom of an NFL dogpile!! I'm set out on these wonderfully grand adventures- leading me down all these "mysterious" and "un-blazed" trails... only to then be CONSTANTLY reminded that I'm playing a video game! Or maybe I'm just supposed to assume some _other_ tomb raiding individual must have embarked on this *exact* adventure, down these *exact* paths about 15 months ago, and was kind enough to take a can of white spray-paint along to mark these uncharted, unknown, ancient locations for the _next_ tomb raider who comes along???? So silly!! For the most part -- much like comedy -- games are far better when their makers assume that their audience is actually _not_ totally stupid! There's nothing wrong with [essentially] linear games like _Uncharted_ or -- to a slightly lesser degree these days -- _Tomb Raider_ , but if my path is going to be basically linear, I really, REALLY don't need you to specifically mark every step out for me! Having it as an _option_ is even better. I'm all for more players having more options to enjoy more games in more ways... A+ to the guy/girl at Eidos Montreal who said: _"How about we let the player decide!"_
I absolutely love this game. I love everything about it. Yeah, I would have liked another area, but if you like the exploration part of these games with the tombs and crypts, you cant go wrong. Its diverse enough and I cant stop playing! 15 hours in so far since Friday, its amazing. I personally am blown away at the graphics, the attention to detail is incredible. I saw very few low res textures but perhaps thats because I am on PC. And I love the HDR in this game (hooked up to my HDR10 TV), its very natural. And as you said, the underwater parts are fantastic. Thanks for the great review.
TR2013 is still my favourite, i loved how you slowly progress there, making better weapons and opening more of the map. I didn't really liked Rise, so far i've played Shadow for about 10 hours and it's better then Rise to me, though much less combat is VERY noticeable
+SmashingSnow I don't get what you mean by Rise having two games that were the same thing? Rise had a 1 year timed exclusive thing with Xbox but all the releases were the same game, just on different systems. Since the reboot Square Enix has given gamers Tomb Raider, Rise and now Shadow, making 3 games.
First review im watching. ACG > IGN. Side note : this game is gonna get smoked and will be $19 on sale by Christmas. Summer release window would have worked.
In my unprofessional opinion in think there is a enough time to breathe between now and Red Dead. Especially for the people don't have playstation. So people like to talk alot about market overlap or release eclipse. These are different enough games that cater to different enough audience I think there isn't a big enough overlap to worry about Spiderman eating all its sales.
@@gabrielcarrasco8414 Last time Rise came out the same day with ridiculously overhyped Fallout 4 and it was Xbox One timed exclusive and Xbox also had marketing deal with Fallout 4 that came out the same day *epic facepalm*
I can't speak for everyone, but to me these new Tomb Raider games are kind of boring. Now don't get me wrong here, the game play itself is solid enough, but the biggest issue to me is just how bland and boring Lara Croft has become, which ultimately impacts the overall game experience. In the original games, Lara was this badass heroine who was like a mix of James Bond and Indiana Jones; jumping head-first into danger and adventure because she wanted to. This new Lara isn't raiding tombs because she wants to, but because she's obligated to. It may seem like a small change, but this shift to a more "grounded" and "believable" character, takes away all of the charm and originality of the series. Without the badass, super-spy/archeologist Lara, the games just feel like uninspired Uncharted clones. Imagine if they made a "grounded" and "believable" Mario game. It would be all about the crappy lives of two Italian immigrant plumbers as they drive around New York City, fixing toilets. No jumping, no coin collecting, no special powers, but hey, it's more "realistic". Well, you can have it! I'll take my unrealistic, badass, fantasy heroes over your monotone, boring, cliched realistic heroes any day of the week.
I enjoyed the 2013 that one was incredible, but Rise was boring, I think the issue for me was the world, the tombs are so boring and uninspired. The 2013 one had some interesting places that had their own mood -like the cannibal section
@Major Gear and she certainly won't be allowed to be English because all English people are Brexit voting racists, the next Lara will have to be some sort of mixed race if she is to be accepted by sjws
I never leave comments for reviews, but I know of the troubles lately for independent content creators. You have the best video reviews for video games, period. I support you on Patreon and will always watch your reviews. Keep doing what you’re doing bro. It is good shit.
Loved Rise so I am sure this will be great. I definitely had fun with all the challenge Tombs too. I already have this game Pre-Ordered on Steam so I cant wait to play on the 12th. Thanks again for a great review man.
I've been playing Tomb Raider games since the very first one in the 90s and the new Lara still blows my mind a little seeing her brutally taking dudes out like Rambo.
Is it just me or do all the recent tomb raider games play practically the same? This new title just looks like a huge expansion dlc for the last game with new features and animations
It is not the same though. The combat is similar, but the story is different, and the exploration is waves better than the last two. Underwater exploration will have you holding your breath as you try to make it to bubbles or past a crevice. There are lots of action scenes that will have you biting lip, while you make impossible leaps and survive... barely. Also, this is the best difficulty modes I have seen in a game. You can turn up or down, exploration, puzzles, and combat, to fit your style.
Yes exactly. If you hate how ubisoft do their games you'll hate these. It's just another open-world-find-collectables kind of game. The first one from Square was the only decent one, then they just started copy-pasting from other popular games....figures.
I really love this trilogy. Have to admit, one of my favorites of all time when you compare to other trilogies GTA 3, 4, and 5 Mafia 1,2,3 Uncharted, all 4 God of War Batman Arkham trilogy Trying to think of others hmmm
The guy at gamestop sold me this game yesterday, standard edition. I think he sold me the game when he wasn't supposed to. In order to get the game early you had to buy the deluxe edition through a preorder. I guess I lucked out!! The graphics of this game are unreal!!! smooth game play too.
ACG i watch all your reviews. I was really looking forward to this one. Thank You really appreciate all what you do. For the gaming community..Big Facts 🤟🏾
@CJ P. They're not actually Liberal. They're authoritarian. Which is quite the opposite. They're authoritarian left as opposed to Liberal or libertarian left.
I absolutely loved Rise, so Shadow of the Tomb Raider is going to be right up my alley. By the way, are you going to be doing a separate PC review like you did with Rise?
When it comes to a persons name, there is only one correct pronunciation. Her name is Lara, not Laura. Also, colour and color have the same pronunciation.
"Not as much fighting" is definitely a pro for me. Really haven't liked the gunplay in this series, but love exploring.
This tomb raider actually focuses on tomb raiding. Sounds good to me.
Ever since I discovered ACG, I no longer watch IGN gaming reviews

this ups the amount of stealth
Yep rinse and repeat
Been here when ACG only had a couple thousand subs. Hadn't looked at the sub count in awhile. Almost 500,000!!!!! Damn! Well deserved .
Best reviews on the tube! Always a very reliable opinion. Thank you.
Tomb Raider games feel like comfort food to me. Quality time spent but nothing groundbreaking. You're not going to be surprised by it.
The problem you mentioned with the jungle location being repetitive after a while is one of my biggest problems with the first two games of this trilogy. The first was all muddy, grey and Brown island and the second was mainly snowy mountains except from the beginning.
ya for sure
When I buy games i carefully research them, watch gameplay and reviews. 50-60 bucks is alot of money so I want to enjoy the game I play. I ALWAYS watch your reviews if i research a title and it always helps me alot to get an idea since you really cover everything. So I thought this guy deserves a sub sorry it took so long. Here is my sub to your channel. Kepp up the good work!
Well I am in the middle of Spider-Man..... but I really want this game too..
Wish I had that excuse but I became a lil obsessed and got 100% completion... 😅
Alfie Tennant Same I finished it so fast LOL
How long does it take to complete the main storyline of Spiderman?
Jaden quest on average it's about 20 hours to beat without doing all of the extras.
@@panamike6178 how about when you beat everything how long will that take?
You definitely have the best game reviews on TH-cam. They aren't too long and you do a great job of giving your opinion on the games while also doing a pretty non bias review, keep up the great work.
thanks sir
Sounds like the development team listened to fan feedback re: less gunfights, more exploration/tombs. I'm in. Take my money.
Yep. They said this one was for fans. And i think is great because each one in the trilogy offers a different ballance.
Tha Pume and bigger ass
And that is why this game is review low are because of casuals like yall smh
If i had a positive to give for this game, the exploration and tomb raiding is great stuff and definitely will get fans excited. But it also has too much busy work of collecting, continuing the Creed's style of gameplay but not in any fun way, and the story is a bit of a mess to go through as well as not having anything interesting happen in its entire middle act.
It is! I could tell there was more tomb raiding than combat. Which is nice.
Rise of the origin of the beginning of the Tomb Raider 3.
The third game that's supposedly about Laura Croft "becomming her own character." Haven't they been saying that for every game since the first reboot?
Seriously though, how many more games until she is her own character? Most likely never. Lets be real here, OG Laura is best Laura.

That emphasis on isolated exploration of tombs reminds me of the original Tomb Raider. And thats awesome
My pc probably csnt even run this on lowest settings, it struggled with mostly low settings on ROTTR, the lighting is what made it stutter so much. 1 ran perfect
Very well done on this review :)
I agree, I loved how extensive your review was as well Melonie 😉
It sounds like they are gradually edging closer to the open world Tomb Raider of my dreams? I would love to see a game where there's actual investigation, where learning the location of a tomb or how to deal with a certain death trap would be part of the gameplay loop. Anyways, thanks for the review, guess I won't cancel pre-order before I see how it runs on my PC.
Yeah, in this age of open world games, it's kind of ironic that one of the franchises best suited for an open world, hasn't one.
Plz no
Nope this is the last game of the trilogy...
Sometimes I watch ur reviews for games I wont even play bc the way u break things down and cover everything, its entertaining
As a fan of the series glad to hear it's good, look forward to playing it.
Why do they keep changing Jonah design?
not sure
Lol my one gripe about this trilogy - Jonah changes race/nationality 3 different times lmao
How dare you assume his race?
Lol to make people talk about it
I hope he dies in this game, such an useless and unnecessary character.
Good for you, bye.
I got really burned out on the snowy, icy environment too and never finished it despite loving the first one and 100%ing it.
I liked the story and cast of the reboot, and I really liked the story for Rise, personally.
As always THE only reviews on the whole world wide Web that ACTUALLY matter. Thanks Karic, sorry if I misspelt mate
Wow, you're hot.
Beautiful way of laying out a review. Can tell that you put some thought into the whole thing. Very well done!
Iv been playing spider man so much that when I see any character jumping off a ledge I'm just expecting the web to ping out. Actually rather annoying
Example: "Hey can give you me a hand over there,..."
"Yes, just a sec."
" No problem, i just need to shoot these guys over there in between, be right next at ya."
"KK, but dont let me wait too long."
You get the point.
I prefer Lara way over Nathan too. Why should everything be humorous in games? I hate Marvel for that reason alone. They killed Thor and Hulk, for me.
This is their lowest selling entry yet. It's prime for a break.
To each their own
7:51 Guy folded like a deck of cards 🤔

Very fair review, and I feel you highlighted all the strengths and weaknesses without bias.
thanks
Glad to see it's a buy. Crazy good review, as always.
If you have played rise you have played this. Only diffrence is Lara looks like a plastic doll. Graphically very poor.
Eh... I'll probably wait for the Humble Bundle monthly release of it.
I loved Rise, this one underwhelmed me a lot the lack of action really bored me
TR2013 is still my favourite, i loved how you slowly progress there, making better weapons and opening more of the map. I didn't really liked Rise, so far i've played Shadow for about 10 hours and it's better then Rise to me, though much less combat is VERY noticeable
Picking this up on the One X. Gotta complete the trilogy. 👍
Isn't there only two games? Since Rise has two games that are the same thing and then this?
SmashingSnow Game 1 = Tomb Raider (2013). Game 2 = Rise of the TR. Shadow is the 3rd game.
+SmashingSnow I don't get what you mean by Rise having two games that were the same thing? Rise had a 1 year timed exclusive thing with Xbox but all the releases were the same game, just on different systems.
Since the reboot Square Enix has given gamers Tomb Raider, Rise and now Shadow, making 3 games.
yep once I finish my DMC quadriliogy marathon, ill b marathoning all 3 TR Reboot games. (replaying the 1st 2)

First review im watching. ACG > IGN.
Side note : this game is gonna get smoked and will be $19 on sale by Christmas. Summer release window would have worked.
Once again Tomb Raider comes at a bad time. With Spiderman and Red Dead 2, it will be overlooked. They have poor timing when it comes to release.

TR's only benefit is that it's the only true PC available game. Spiderman and RDR are console exclusives
4:52 that pistol sound + echo is like the gun's shooting burst
Well told!!
I enjoyed the 2013 that one was incredible, but Rise was boring, I think the issue for me was the world, the tombs are so boring and uninspired. The 2013 one had some interesting places that had their own mood -like the cannibal section
Too bad, while the games are still good, Square Enix killed the spirit of Lara Croft.
@Major Gear and she certainly won't be allowed to be English because all English people are Brexit voting racists, the next Lara will have to be some sort of mixed race if she is to be accepted by sjws

same...underwater to clean, not even some bubbles when shes doing some action.
I agree
Thought the same, it looks to still and no bubbles, just took away the realism from it. Shame..
Play it on a PC with ultra settings. Underwater is a new world, compared to consoles.
The only place I go for my reviews you really hit all the important marks a lot of people just disregard
Is it just me or do all the recent tomb raider games play practically the same? This new title just looks like a huge expansion dlc for the last game with new features and animations
Yes they all play exactly the same!
Tomb Rider 2013 felt fresh and was a solid reboot, but I agree it's getting old with this one. They need a new concept.
If it works...
Yes exactly. If you hate how ubisoft do their games you'll hate these. It's just another open-world-find-collectables kind of game. The first one from Square was the only decent one, then they just started copy-pasting from other popular games....figures.
