Sonic the Fighters (ソニック・ザ・ファイターズ Sonikku za Faitāzu), known as Sonic Championship on arcade versions in North America and Europe, is a competitive fighting game developed by Sega AM2 for Sega's Model 2 arcade system. The game, which allows players to fight using characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, was released in arcades in Japan in May 1996 and North America in June 1996.

7:37 The reason why Fang did a lot of damage to Sonic is because of a comeback mechanic. In this game, if your hp (or your opponent's hp) is less than your opponent's hp (or your hp) you (or they) can deal more damage than usual to them (or you).

This game was far ahead of its competitor at times, glad i manage to play it.
This is my favourite Classic fighting game, It was quite advanced for its time.
I enjoyed it so much, I Completed this one 100% on Xbox 360.
I kinda wish Super Smash Bros had more Sonic characters, with moves inspired from this game and other Sonic games.
StF in a nutshell:
1°stage: easy
2° stage: easy
3° stage: a little hard
4° stage: hard
5° stage: hard (?)
6° stage: too easy! (tip: USE YOUR FUCKING BARRIER)
7° stage: if you miss the bomb, you win!
8°: hard if you don't know the moveset of Sonic
9°: spend one round to destroy the barriers of Metal

Why’s this game so hated? Personally I find it extremely enjoyable. I never experienced any glitches or anything.
Also who cares about the story and why care about Metal Sonic’s difficulty. It’s an arcade game.
I like it too. Maybe they’re a little creeped out by the loony physics. The whole thing is like from a squash and stretch cartoon

This was one of the best games in the Buffalo Nickle arcade in Western Plaza in Amarillo.
Joguei quando criança na coletânea do gens colection de PS2 e dos jogos ali foi oq eu mais passei horas jogando. As vezes fico com a sensação de que se o game tivesse sido lançado para algum console de mesa poderia ter tido um reconhecimento bem maior, e caso o saturn não aguentasse, penso que seria uma boa relançar pro Dreamcast... De qualquer modo, ótimo game pra passar o tempo

People like to say this game is bad but I find it so charming, it's really cool seeing a fighting game with slapstick violence, the soundtrack is rad

Eu tinha um jogo que continha uma seleção de jogos do Sonic. "Sonic the Fighters" era um deles e também um dos meus favoritos. 😅😅
A única diferença é que era no PS2. Outro detalhe: eu não sabia fazer combinação de ataques especiais, então eu usava os comandos básicos de ataque, tipo Bola: Bater, X: pular, etc.
É muito nostálgico isso. ❤️

The developers have to add an 8th chaos emerald because there are 8 characters in the game but if you don't get this then the exsitsants of the 8th chaos emerald is explained in the archie comics
