- We're back for another episode of our China VLOG series, and today we're going on a Hong Kong food tour, taking in some of the best Chinese fast food you can buy... I say fast food, but it's much better than fast food. First we try out a Hong Kong speciality, 'jidanzai' or Egg Bubble Pancakes. Then we go to a Liang Cha cafe for a typically Cantonese experience, and finally we stop of at a Guangzhou-style Bing Shi for some curry rice and an icy treat.
In between all that we also ride one of the famous Hong Kong ding ding trams, and we stop by the Monster Building!

Welcome to Hong Kong! 18:58 It's interesting that the 3 of you ordered the same dish. In this case, we would order 2 or 3 different dishes and share 😄. Similarly, 3:14 it's common that we share the HK-style egg waffle instead of eating a whole bag of waffle by oneself. 😊

It is Chinese’s habbit to buy different flavours n share. However, the westerners prefers to have their own. When I was told many years ago that when they have dim sum they have the whole by themselves I was shocked 😂
菠蘿包其實沒有菠蘿的味道，只是菠蘿包上面酥皮的裂痕像菠蘿似的!

Lovely video, love to see your parents enjoying all the food. I was waiting for you to tell your parents the pineapple bun doesn't really have pineapples in them, they're just call pineapple bun because the top is made to look like a pineapple, so the story goes.

@@TravelinChinaNo need to apologize, we learn new things every day. I don't think this bun is sold around China except maybe in Guandong because I think it's a Cantonese dish. It's very popular in Canada and United States Chinatown though.
The "butter" looked more like marge. Too yellow.
In the old day, some restaurant cook the pineapple bun looked like a pineapple skin, but now seldom find this, cause it waste a lot of time.

18:11 The pineapple bun should be freshly baked, then put a slice of icy butter in the middle, have a big bite into it, crispiness, softness, sweetness and savory, what a multi level of taste, besides, we usually order a “Yuen Yung”, coffee mix tea to partner pineapple bun with butter, best afternoon tea you can ever ask for 😅

The Herbal jelly (guilinggao) 龜苓膏 is actually tortoise pudding. Good for de-toxin. Would be normal if a few rashes pop up, meaning the toxins are forced out.

I definitely recommend having frozen pineapple, as a person who was born in HK. There frozen pineapple is often found in parks and is just great for the hot weather! Ovaltine and Horlick is also some classics in HK!

normally we will not spread the butter when eat the pineapple bun with butter, we just put the whole piece of butter inside the bun , then takes it with a big mouth, u will find it's a big delicious!

The "pineapple" bun is not supposed to have the flavor of the pineapple. It is called that because when it was made early on, like in the 50s and 60s, the crust had a grid-like pattern like the pineapple. Overtime, the crust was made to be crispier and flakier, and began to lose the "grid" like form.
Lovely see the three of you, particularly your parents, trying new foods. By the way, pineapple buns aren't supposed to taste pineapple; they are so called because they look like pineapple, and that's Hong Kong for you, whatever that means!

Just my two cents… Similar to another audience who made the comment, I’m also a bit concerned with your parents’ calorie/sugar intakes… as we get older our metabolism is slower and we don’t need to eat as much as we’re used to when we were young… perhaps you can order just one dish for both of them to share instead of two dishes. I’m in my 50s and I don’t think within one day I can eat one egg waffle, one pineapple bun, one big cup of red bean drink and one dish of pork with rice. Perhaps it’s just me.
