Thank you so much for making this series! I just recovered an 808 model from our landlord’s shed, the poor thing is old and needing a good breakdown and cleaning as the needle’s jammed, but since the motor system works still i want to restore it and make stuffed animals for my fiancé. Being able to learn how it works is so dang helpful!
I’m so happy and thankful for you being here. Teaching us this, I am not a student though well in high school. I’m 52. And I’ve had this sewing machine since I was 12. I love that I kept it. I was 9 when it was made it’s so simple and having Autism I had a hard time with a more advanced one. So I think I could learn a lot from you. I’m hoping you do some sewing videos with this exact sewing machine. Why would we need to control the tension, can you please answer ?
If your stitches aren’t nice and neat looking, it may be a tension issue. The top and bottom threads need to have the correct tension on them and they need to be balanced to make the correct stitches.
Oh, I forgot to respond to your request for more videos using this machine. I have given that machine away to one of the student sewers. So, I no longer have it. But I am so glad you found these videos useful. 😊
Thank you so much for these videos! May I ask what happened to part 2 in this series? My grandmother gifted me this sewing machine from her collection but she didn't have the manual any more.
@@nickiwesson433 Thank you!! I did post in a sewing facebook group and was able to find the manual. The machine doesn't have the correct name on it so that's what was making finding the manual hard.
Can you tell me more about the tension and the length dial. Specifically about the reverse. Is that for the stitch on the inside of the fabric? Like if you’re mending a hem. One side of the fabric is outside and the other side is inside. Is the reverse for the inside stitching?
I no longer have this sewing machine so I can’t do another video. I can say that the reverse simply makes the sewing machine sew backwards. So, instead of the fabric feeding toward the back of the machine, it starts feeding toward you. You are always stitching on both sides of the fabric regardless of whether you are sewing forward or backwards.
Our brother VX-808 sewing machine doesn’t have the diagram sticker. My mother had it from the 80s so the diagram may have fallen off in that time. Is there a place where I can find that sticker?
That diagram is in the owners manual. Try searching for it online. There are Facebook groups that are saving copies of old manuals for people to use. Those groups are a great resource for those looking for help.
Good luck! I recommend you take the time to clean the machine. They tend to have a build up of lint in them that can cause problems with sewing smoothly.
I have a Brother VX808 but don’t have a cable or paddle. Where can I purchase these items and do I need a specific cable and paddle or will any do? I also don’t have a presser food or extension table. Are those also items I can by separately?
I have had good luck finding replacement power cables and foot pedals on eBay. You do need to get one that is specifically for your make and model of sewing machine.
I don’t know how to disassemble the thread balance. There are many others on TH-cam the explain how to work on sewing machines. FaceBook groups is another place to look to get help from knowledgeable people. Sorry I can’t help.
Thank you for this!!! My mom passed away last year and I found this machine amongst her stuff and want to learn to start sewing ☺️

There are a lot of manuals available in sewing groups on Facebook. You should be able to find a pdf copy.

Do you know the difference between the VX-808 & the VX-810?
No, I don’t. I recommend looking online for the manuals for both models to find out what the differences are. Sorry I can’t be any more help.
