    I have a new question that may be answered already in another video in the series. Well two questions, actually. First one, what is the minimum amount of equipment needed (which parts-preassembled) just to get it fired up and the firmware, etc to use? I'm talking about minus any case, etc...? Next question; will this work in conjunction with an app like ATAK?

    Thanks for the well made presentation.
    I'd appreciate your input,
    We will be installing a VHF repeater on a tower in my town. What equipment for meshtastic would be best to install, I'd expect mesh repeater and node.
    I'm barely just now hearing of meshtastic and would like to exploit my chance to get one on the tower, mainly so others can use it even if I don't.
    Thank you for the time to reply.
    Take care

      For your setup, I assume you'll have power. I'm working on a new Power over Ethernet setup which will be similar to my solar build I did a series of videos on which can be found at this link th-cam.com/play/PLshzThxhw4O5HLlxgbZoaEL_LZCBjgv-C.html
      I'm not sure what timeframe you'll be doing this in, but I'll be doing the video on this setup soon. If you're doing the setup before the video comes out though, here's the different items.
      Instead of the Solar Panel, you could get these items instead:
      This PoE Splitter

      @@The_Comms_Channel you'll also want a transtector (e.g. Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2) and shielded cable (e.g. Ubiquiti UACC-Cable-Patch-Outdoor-1M-BK )/RJ45 connectors (e.g. Ubiquiti UISP-Connector-GND) if doing PoE permanently outdoors. Won't handle a direct lightning strike but you'll save a bunch of headache from ESD frying your equipment.

    What type of battery life do you get with the lily t-echo? Or the heltech?

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heltec uses the ESP32 microcontroller, so the battery life isn't going to be great. I've not tested it, but since the T-Beam gets about a day to day and a half, the Heltec will be about the same. Maybe a little more for the models without GPS. (2600mAh 18650 battery)
      The T-Echo uses the NRF52 microcontroller which is much better on bettery life, but has an 850mAh battery in it. Even still, it will give you better battery life than a device with an ESP32 with a 2600mAh battery.

    Is there a trick to getting the RAK boards to play nice with solar panels? I have one hooked up to a 6W 5V (Soshine brand off amazon - I think it's the same one you used) solar panel but the RAK board doesn't seem to want to charge the 2x 18650 batteries unless I unplug and replug the panel (red LED lights fully). Also tried with the panel connected to the USB port and had the same issue.

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm.. No trick or anything. Just make sure the polarity is correct. If you have a volt meter, you could check to make sure the panel is outputting voltage by placing it in the sunlight and checking it. Could be a bad panel.

    • @garrisonsan

The node lists is showing at least 12 nodes with strong signals. I try direct messaging; it always says retransmission retry timeout. Should I be able to see traffic on my primary channel.? I see no traffic at all. New to this Mesh thing. Thanks. de. Bob

    What happens if you receive more than one incoming message? Does the mesh receiver hold messages in a queue, or does it push them to the handset? OR what?

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're currently connected, it pushes the messages to your phone. Kind of like text messaging. If you're not currently connected, it will store about 32 messages and send push to your phone when you connect back

      LoRa sacrifices speed for distance. It could be faster and be able to send images, but you wouldn't be able to achieve the long distances. Can't have both so one of those has to be sacrificed.
