How This Minimalist Tiny Home Allows You to Escape to Nature

  • Drawing inspiration from livestock sheds that scatter farmlands, MGAO designed a tiny home on wheels to sit in any landscape and not detract from the picturesque view. So their simple Colorbond-clad cabin becomes its own "shed", except it's for humans to occupy.
    Base Cabin, a builder of tiny homes that collaborates with Australia's leading architects, approached MGAO wanting a cabin that would house a bathroom, bedroom, living, dining and kitchen, all of which needed to fit on a trailer and fit within the requirements of a transportable tiny house. MGAO recognised the challenge of needing to fulfil the brief while still being functional for daily life.
    The layout was kept simple, with a bathroom at one end, a kitchen at the other, and the living/sleeping space in between. With such a tight footprint, MGAO pushed storage to the walls, and a fold-down bed and fold-up table were designed to allow flexibility. In addition, windows have been carefully positioned to not only help define particular spaces, but with light and outlook, it aids in expanding the small footprint by drawing the surrounding environment into the cabin.
    Referencing the livestock sheds, MGAO used Colorbond for the external material, providing a simple, elegant and robust exterior that wouldn't look out of place on a farm, vineyard or out in the bush. The form has been kept simple, reminiscent of MGAO's work, ensuring that the cabin would become secondary to the landscape.
    Limewash plywood was used internally, including the joinery. It provides a robust but soft finish to the interior space of the cabin, and the singular material reinforces the simplicity and minimalist design approach. In addition, after coming back from a day out exploring the landscape, the plywood can accommodate a few knocks and bumps from boots and bags.
    The Base Cabin gives you a sense of 'home', with real generosity given to the small footprint. MGAO have thought about how it could be occupied as a roaming tiny home on wheels or a semi-permanent cabin that could be paired with a second cabin. It's been designed to feel like you're in the landscape, not cut off from it, and it has everything you need to escape everyday life.

    For such a small space, the fit and finish is incredible; note the orientation of the grain of the birch plywood. This would be an amazing 'glamping' experience! or short term retreat.

      I agree, Arslan, the details and refinement really sets this apart from so many tiny homes I see. MGAO and Base Cabin did an amazing job with this.

      Sorry, Cynthia! The tiny home was just completed, and the bathroom was going to have the toilet installed when it reached the new owners. And the kitchen was basically what you saw, just with a lot of empty cupboards.

    This minimalist tiny home is pure genius! 👏✨ It proves that less is truly more when it comes to comfortable, efficient living. From clever space-saving solutions to the beautifully simple design, it's an inspiring example of how we can simplify our lives and focus on what truly matters. I'm ready to declutter and embrace minimalist living! 🏡

    Hey guys. I think this might be ours 😍 If so, it’s joining an existing cabin from F+W which is currently on site & has decking around it. The MGAO cabin will sit in a L shape form along with 2nd cabin. Both cabins are completely off grid with solar trailer & roof mounted solar panels on MGAO cabin. Incinerating toilets by Cinderella reduce waste to ash. Showers/toilets/taps run via onsite 2 x colorbond water tanks (15000L total). Lighting is LED. We have a custom handmade Dutch wood fired hot tub (in Orange) on site that comfortably sits 2 adults. Love to have you on site for another episode when we are all set up 👍 Great video given the limitations of time & not on site. Happy glamping!

    The white exterior cladding would look amazing if replaced with a shade of green similar to the surroundings. The tiny house would look invisible.
    Seamless. Perfect.

    Beautifully executed! I enjoyed the connection of all the lines, materials and multiple uses of the room. Amazing how a large glass door as this can be installed in a home in wheels. Does one need to be careful of uneven terrain when driving?

    • @SimpleDwelling
      @SimpleDwelling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cavity slider is definitely unique and sets it apart, Anny! It held up coming from the factory to the shooting location, but I mean, you wouldn't drive fast down a bumpy dirt road (and you wouldn't do that even if the tiny home didn't have the glass door haha).

      And the number of times we were told, as if it was news, that windows frame views. He also just said that it’s a boxy structure… I haven’t even finished watching but felt compelled to see if anyone else was crabby about the announcements of the obvious.

      @@Zjaan321 I don’t think the video is well done so I just posted a critique because there was no discussion or tour of how basic needs are being met. I guess I just seen too many tours of mobile tiny homes so I got cranky about what I saw as the many shortfalls of this one. I’ll go delete that other comment, I should have let it go rather than post such a negative review. Thanks for the reminder on positivity!

      I'm sorry Carol that I wasn't able to meet your preconceived expectations on what a 'tour' video should be. Can you be specific about the shortfalls? I interviewed the architect about their design of the cabin, and the builders about their process. The architect talked about what is in the cabin, and how they designed it for day/night use.

    5:10 how would you climb in? A little more showcase of other practical aspects such as water tanks, batteries, refrigeration. in addition to the hinge flexing, also that glass door is so easy to break in, in the middle of nowhere., Good effort by @Simple Dwelling as always.

    • @SimpleDwelling
      @SimpleDwelling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was just a quick shoot in a temp location as it was on its way to the owners, but you’d build a deck or have steps when in place.
      And again, given it wasn’t in its final spot, things like water tanks, batteries, fridge, etc, weren’t in place.
      And lastly regarding the door, no different to a house having windows.

    We need to have cheap housing for the homeless and for the working poor who need reasonable priced accommodations. I didn’t see a refrigerator or burners for storing and cooking food. We watched the man climb in and out, open and close the door and raise and lower the bed, but nothing in the non- kitchen.

  • @wolfhorsky
    @wolfhorsky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the calm colors, but there is no real space to cook anything. The „kitchen” is a joke here. Also the better option would be incorporating the sofa and bed. There is a sense of space but, there is no place to sit or lay down comfortably.

    Interesting attempt at tiny house living. However, the cold/sterilized environment, relatively excessive cost, and ritalin induced narration seem more like a introductory video to a mental asylum. I swear I'm not trying to troll here, but can anyone else agree that this product needs a more lively/colorful presentation?
