It is well and truly insane. That said, I'm a little surprised they don't make more. Let me explain; they appear to be turbo DOHC engines. Assuming displacement at 1500 cc (I don't know what the class rules are), that's 1 hp/cc. Top fuel drag cars are limited to 500 cubic inches (about 8.2 liters), roots-style supercharged, OHV, 2 valve per cylinder V8s and make, to the best of our ability to measure it, in the neighborhood of 12,000 hp (and, I'm sure, entire WORLDS more specific torque output than these bike engines, but that's to be expected), or almost 1.5 hp/cc. I assume that's due to the difference in the amount of engineering money being thrown at top fuel bike development, because they're theoretically a considerably more efficient engine design.
I have seen a carburetor explode off of a top fuel harley and it got lodged into the concrete barrier. Would have killed someone or at the very least took someones leg off
This is exactly where they wear armor vests. I’ve saw the valve covers pop off of one, like stated previously, it would have killed someone if it hit them. No questions asked. Pretty sure the cover just blew thro his tank and up in the air. He was lucky
