- Fearless Top Fuel Motorcycle racers Larry "Spiderman" McBride and Dave Vantine thrill the big crowd at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, Illinois as NHRA returns to the Chicago area for the first time since 2019. We see a little Top Fuel Motorcycle gone wrong as Larry McBride has a problem with his world record-holding Top Fuel Nitro motorcycle as we take you behind the scenes and back in the pits to see what the team is doing to try to fix this Top Fuel drag racing problem. @@cycledrag Going by "Spiderman's" numbers on the last run, I would say "yes". They would look at the computer data, sort that valve out and be good to go at their next meet. Team Vantine looked solid all weekend pretty much, with low/flat 6 secs and touching over 200mph. Should be a great season!

Happy that the living legend Spider-Man finally got it together on that last pass! 👏 It sounds like he might need to do some more testing before the next big race. I was surprised to hear that he hasn't been out since Maple Grove last September 😮

@@cycledrag Good question. The video went from smoking the tire, to rebuilding the all-valve to the 5.7 run. Was it the all-valve or something else? Would make a good follow-up video to know. Thanks
Spiderman McBride has such a calm disposition during good and bad times. He is the measuring stick for the class. He and his team are the very best in the business. This video is a testament to the difficulties felt by all in the Top Fuel Motorcycle class. Best of luck in 2023

Meeting these two racers and their teams in Chicago was the best part of a 15,000 mile road trip. Invited into both pits to see the bikes and friendly as could ever be. They deserve the big crowds.
I seen and met Larry "spider man Mcbride "in early 2000's in Gainesville this guy is awesome👍 signed my T-shirt also.

Thanks for your great content Jack. I went to my drag strip in York England last week with my son to see the bikes and cars race, was fantastic to see but not quite as fast as it’s only 1/8 mile at the moment.

@@cycledrag the track is only 1/8 I think they are saving up to make it a full quarter mile. There was an amazing, high tech steam powered bike called Force of Nature there, was spectacular to watch. The competitors are so friendly, happy to tell you about their bikes😀. You have a great rapport with the racers which makes for revealing interviews, it brings the best drag racing right into my house!
@@cycledrag I am sure Spider-Man and his team will fix their issue, they are hugely experienced and I’m sure they will stop at nothing until they trace the cause.

Im not sure if it was him but im pretty sure it was 1 run before this on Saturday around 1pm there was a lone qualifying run in the left lane. He got wheel hop real bad and then missed a gear. If anybody has or knows of footage taken of that run Please let me know! Whoever it was got sent for a wild ride!

@cycledrag i think they did get the issue fixed. It was most likely a different bike. Whoever it was spun a tad on the line but then gripped & got into a rear tire bounce coming in and out of traction up to about 160ft.
You don't see many young guys doing this, because it takes decades, just to learn the build and function of these wonders of science.

NHRA- PLEASE include this class in the regular Saturday/Sunday lineup! These gladiators are willing to run every weekend merely for their team’s fuel expenses, let alone their actual race budget! They are exciting and dangerous! Please NHRA, include these bikes in the lineup! The people will be amazed…!!!

Jack you absolutely sure do need to sign that helmet. Your hard , dedicated and FABULOUS hard work bringing these wonderful events to us folks like me being a super hard working widowed father who just can't make it to these events due to life events. You make us feel like we are standing right next to you with the teams in their pits and at the starting line. We couldn't do it without you sir. Your name on that helmet is equally important as all the other wonderful and so dedicated folks who signed it along with you. Just can't thank you enough for what you do. My teenage son and I hope to soon be at one of these amazing events when we can afford to , to see these incredible machines , teams and you in person.
