I've always been a great Holden fun. To Jim Richards, you were totally right in what you said, good on ya mate and I have always thought and said so. This is one Hell of a good video covering the history of "BATHURST".
Lucky wasn't pushing a gt falcon.. absolutely best footage I have seen..thanks for the memories. Always wished gricey had one a couple he was a very underated driver how's first laps 1986. Huge speed improvement, and cornering. Unbeatable Brock/Richards..

Thanks for uploading this! My mate got this on VHS for his birthday 20 years ago, we used to love watching it. This IMO has some of the best driver banter and Bathurst anecdotes in any doco I've seen. Hadn't seen super100 notification for a while, so this was a pleasant surprise. Cheers!
Came back for another watch of this classic...Brocky is gone, Moffat is stricken with Alzheimer's and the Commodore and Falcon are no longer being made...Bloody sad!
It's a bloody outrage, really. I gave up watching Bathurst when the cars stopped being even real cars anymore. Now that it's going to be an all American fiasco, I have zero interest.
@@HereIsMyOffer I'm 63, so basically I've followed Bathurst from the very early days. Breaks my heart to see the end of the Ford Holden era. My old man worked at Ford in Geelong (Product Engineering Plant) until he was 72. So I have a bit of a thing for Fords. I drive a Ford FG XR8 ute, and a SV6 Commodore, so I do have a love for the both of them. I also own an Audi S4 V8, which is by far the better car. LOL. But I love the Aussie muscle cars and I'll miss them terribly.
@@crustydownunder Nice! Yeah my favourite era was from about 86 to 96 I liked the turbo stuff and the variety! Johnsons EB Falcon and Brooks VR/VS Commodores were my favourites. Glad I got to see a few touring car rounds out at Wanneroo.

My sister and her husband bought an SLR5000 back in 74, Immediately fitted the bolt on flairs and American racing mags and it looked and sounded amazing. He still has, and it's only about 48,000miles. Still all original and looks brand new to this day. He'd been offered $250,000 back in the 90s. I shudder to think how much it would be today. My daughter sold a mock-up SLR a few years back for $40,000, and it wasn't a great example to be honest. I wish I had kept some of the cars I had back in the day. I'd be a millionaire now 🙂

Very dissapointed that Brian Sampson didn't get a better mention in the 1975 Brock / Sampson win. I worked for Brian for over 7 years and had a lot of respect for his business acumen and his driver expertise in so many catagories of racing.
The cream coloured car right at the start you mean? Peter Brock and Des West's 1969 Holden Monaro HT GTS 350 'Bathurst', it finished third outright in the '69 race.
OK Sorry it didnt look as wide on my narrow screen as a Monaro )) silly pom) buy me a new widescreen LCD jobbie for the most silly comment as First Prize, only joking, love your vids!!! I got it now, the Torana is easy to spot as it has a very rectangle front grille

Holdens Philophecy ...if you cant beat it "Ban it" ...Holden just couldnt build a competitive car so they had the Nissan GTR banned (and anything else that could beat them)...and hence..."Went Broke".....At one stage in the 80s/90s Holdens competitors were adding Twin Cam's, Turbo's and Fuel injection, while Holden were still putting dirty old 186 Red Motors in their cars...Sad for Australian manufacturing but just true.

Now that's what I call a documentary. Nothing stirs the soul like the sound of a V8 at full rpm.
Too many great moments to mention in this. 🤘😎🤘
I remember watching this on VHS repeatedly as a kid. There's honestly no sound comparable in pleasure to the roar of the old 308s at full throttle. :D
Im from the uk but admire this race and Aussies so much
fantastic footage , re watching all the great race events and the races in between on a beautiful weather week in may 2023

In fact the first win by Holden at Bathurst was in 1968. First, second, third and fifth positions were won by drivers of Holden HK Monaro GTS327s.
