Never draft based on NEED. The player you draft will not be a regular player for 5 years. In 5 years your needs will change. You trade draft picks and prospects based on need. You draft the best player so you boost the value of that trade. I believe you should use free agency to fill a hole for 3 or 4 years.
Ironically in the 2016 NHL Draft where the Hurricanes took Julien Gauthier, the Hurricanes received that pick from the Los Angeles Kings in the Andrej Sekera deal.

1. You pick the best player available….period. This is something the Kings have yet to do in the first rd since Blake took over. 2. you trade back for more picks and assets. 3. you package this pick with more to get a top player that makes the team better now. Depending on the tiers of the groups of players available after #21 I say trading back is the best strategy. Given the Kings first rd track record whomever they pick he likely will be NHL ready after Doughtys contract ends.

We desperately need a CENTER! Kopi is going to retire and we don’t even know if Byfield will be playing center and goes for Dubois. We desperately need a Center or else our team will struggle
Seriously need to put Blake on blast already.
I have no doubt IF, and that’s a big IF, Blake and Yank keep the pick it will no doubt be for another 2 way center with underwhelming foot speed and minimal offensive skills cause Blake and Yank are gonna Blake and Yank.
Just move the pick for 2 second round picks.
Please get Ryder Ritchie. He is exactly what the Kings need. They say he is a Lukas Raymond + Travis Konecny hybrid. Trade up if need be.

Really have to point out how Blake failed in SJ and ruined the Kings.
The annual NHL draft is mostly a crap shoot for most teams. It is overrated and just a marketing gimmick and hyped up event, because it is so hard to see the picks actually culminating years later in a June Stanley Cup victory.
The Stanley Cup is won ultimately with trades or free agent signings 90% of the time.
More interesting will be the summertime agent signings and trades than all the hoopla over 18 year olds, many of whom just still don’t know what they want to really do with their lives.
That is exactly Kings slug and dud PLD, who obviously is done with hockey because he won’t put out in the ice at age 26. He has other interests in life with all his underserved cash he is getting to be a slug and loaf.
On the draft. The Kings will have a list of around 30 that should go before they pick.
When it comes time to pick they will take the highest ranked player left on their list that is still available.
Kings have become what Blake left behind in SJ and brought TM to ruin the whole organization
At this point Kings development system is trade based. Fire Blake. He ruined the Sharks and brought his loser management to LA
