    I am a hobbyist, goddamnit! I don't make a living with my music, it's for me, something I love an care about. On the other hand I have a family and must contribute to every penny I spent on stuff. At the end of the day: fuck you Waves, we surely go parted ways from here on.

      If I had to guess I'd say big portion of their customer base falls into that category, either hobbyist or producers/engineers who have a second job to pay for the other. Then there are the big boys who most likely have free access to everything as long as they are willing to make favourable comments about every new plugin.

    • @ibrahim47x
      @ibrahim47x ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xanderlurks Say less. Yeah, iZotope's Vocalsynth outperforms Ovoxx by a long shot, there's also Exhale by Output which outperorms both but is very much reflected in the price. My new favorite is Augmented Voices by Aruria although it's not a live engine, it works on samples and you can feed it custom ones. As fas as the CLA comps, you just need better emulations of the FET 76 and the LA-2A compressors, and Waves's emulations of those are actullay amnogst the worst and oldest compared with emulation tech available today. For the FET 76, Arturia makes a great emulation, so does Plugin Alliance with the MC77, Black Rooster's VLA-FET, as well as Plusar's audio smasher, and those are just few great ones of many out there. And to replace the CLA-2A, there's oh so many LA-2A emulations just like the FET 76, Arturia's TUBE STA, Plugin Alliance's Brainworx bx_opto, and Black Rooster Audio VLA-2A are some of my personal favorites.

    Yes their NS1 & De-breath are well used amongst my peers but they''ll no doubt be recommending other manufacturers to newbies from now on. Even the cheapest "bundle" doesn't make sense for anyone requiring such a limited number for this niche. < 4 months rental vs those 2 for ever at the usual "sale price" just doesn't stack up.

    Problem is I don't need 220 plugins. I need what I purchased and that's it. So that "value" isn't there for somebody like me. I'll continue to use my Waves plugins till they are no longer compatible with my OS and then just not use Waves anymore. I don't like subscriptions and if they are going to force me into a subscription, then I'll just move on. • @TheGarageRecordingSC
    @TheGarageRecordingSC ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think the problem that is not being addressed with this move by waves, is that, it almost seems now like the reason for them to drastically drop the prices of their plugins for the last few years was to suck people in to buying all this stuff knowing they were going to go to a subscription base model. If you offer somebody something at an affordable price more people are going to jump on, but would they have even bought those plugins if they were told we're going to a new business model in a few years, and you'll never be able to update those plugins that you paid for. They will eventually become obsolete unless you jump into the subscription-based model at that point. It feels like the only reason that they went from exorbitant costs to dirt cheap was the basically sneak attack people. These are business people. Don't think for a second that they didn't do this on purpose. Or at least don't think that they couldn't have thought it up. I think the part that people with a lot of their plugins are pissed off about, is the fact that they've told all of us that we don't matter. Thanks for buying all of our stuff, oh by the way we're completely making it so you have no choice. It's either you go Subscription model, or enjoy what you paid for while they last. Someone starting out will benefit greatly, no one is arguing the point of the value that this offers. It's really just those of us who have purchased a lot of their products, and want to continue being able to get our updates when we need them. The update plans never bothered me as I never needed to update my operating system that often. I've been using waves plugins for 10 years and I've only needed the update plan twice. I don't see any reason why waves can't leave that part alone for the rest of us that don't need the subscription. We just want to be able to update when we need. I don't really think that's too hard to do or too much to ask for. Sorry for the rant, this is obviously a fresh wound lol 😂

IMO- The hardware sounds better, and I'm the guy that wants to own things outright, and was not happy about the 'update plan' idea, nor would I like a monthly bill, for my music endeavors. For the few Waves plugins I still use (as a home recording amateur) I'll have to search for an alternative. In particular MV2 and R Bass. As a Reaper user I'm aware I should try out Reaper General Dynamics which apparently does upward compression as well as just about any sort of compression. I read Klevgrand Knorr is an alternative for R bass, but I haven't tried that either.
    If it is, it's goodbye Waves!

      @@greedokenobi3855 Thanks for the suggestion! 🙏 I am going to have a look at Sculptr!
      No, I have not found an adequate MV2 alternative. Its magic seems to be hard to replicate.
      But as I am not in the "it costs a lot, so it must be right and good" crowd like Adam seems to be. In some situations, I love using Reaper's clone of the Oxford Inflator (RC Inflator JS), which is absolutely equal to the original (even nulling it). General Dynamics JS is also able to do Upward Compression, and it is very good at it, though a bit iffy to work with.
      What I absolutely can recommend are all of the Toneboosters plugins. They are cheap as hell, and are making Fabfilter's plugins look a lot less valuable. Their Compressor 4 or the MBC have some unique tools for Upward Compression, and can do the trick.
      But again - all this can not "replace" MV2 and its mojo. But they can create great results, in some cases even better ones... 🤷

    You're a Reaper guy, a company that gives you two major versions when you buy a licence (I think I paid two times in 12+ years?) and you're OK with this?
    The problem is not the subscription plan, which makes sense for a company with as many plugins as they have, but the out of the blue cancelling of any other way to get their plugins and making all their products for their previous customers a ticking time bomb. I would guess many people were waiting for a fully native M1 Protools to renew their WUP.
    Also the subscription is one activation only.

    The subscription model makes sense if you own nothing already. It also screws over all the users that own everything already. You are saying its a great deal because it keeps you from spending so much up front, but what about the users who have already spent it and can’t get updates without essentially buying them again with the subscription model? Also the second license is not included with the subscription model. On top of that the host software is currently still perpetual. That means if you have superrack, lv1, and all the plugins your updates were capped at $240 a year. Now to get the same updates and the second license it is $740 a year.

    I normally appreciate your videos but I really don't agree with the positive Waves spin in this video. You say that it's good because their normal prices can be too big a hit to pay all at once, and now the average joe gets to pay over time. But this quickly becomes way more expensive, especially if you keep making music for years. Add to that, the fact that the average person buys Waves only on sale, so it was never this "big hit" to begin with, and they might just buy the plugins they need, not all of them. And IF they are the types that took the "big hits" in the past, well guess what, they are gonna have to pay Waves again now and for all eternity in case they just want ONE future plugin from Waves that they'd want to be functional in sessions going forward. The average person will start go elsewhere. On this plus side, this was a true gift to the smaller plugin developers.

But when you add every fucking tool that is going to improve your work from so many different companies it’s just absurd! Lots of money! The companies that allow you to choose between subscription and one payment license, have at least a more decent and friendly approach. And if you consider that many Waves costumers have already spent mor than 1000 dollars in plugins, plus the update plan, is just a kick in the ass.
