If you think that humans have a sex drive, multiply that by ??? For PRIMATES! Travis never mated! He was a ticking time bomb! This was a selfish and sick plan.

@@WiseWeeabo There is a massive world of difference between a cat or dog that have been domesticated for several thousand years and a chimpanzee that is strong enough to rip flesh from bone.
Stealing a baby from it's mother to raise as your "own child" is called kidnapping in human terms. Rich people need to be stopped. Travis going after the guy that threw the can is something a few humans would do as well. Travis could smell Charla on Sandra and knew she was going to take Sandra away in a car, which is why he wanted to go too. When she showed up, he attacked as he felt Charla was going to take her away.
@@lisamcdonald1014 I've heard that one too. I sort of reject it only because Travis has been pretty smart up to this point. Charla probably had her hair up the first time she picked Sandra. Travis more or less kind of grew up with Charla before being bought by Sandra. (though it was long ago) I basically give smart ape the benefit of the doubt. THough Travis _was_ on drugs at the time.

I had a 12 year old cat with "two birthdays." One set of veterinary papers said he was born May 30, 2012 and another showed him to be born July 12, 2012. I don't have that cat anymore but I have a much younger one who's almost 2 1/2 years old and whose estimated birthday is May 31🎉
Wild animals are known to, well, act like wild animals, no matter how hard some insane people like the Herelds try to change them. We will likely never know why he attacked her; animals don't act from a place of logic and reason, they act from instinct. The chimp was obese, fed junk food and alcohol, medicated with Xanax and had reached full sexual maturity without access to other chimps as he would have in his natural habitat. I'm actually surprised it took that long for him to react violently. The fact that it took knife injuries and several shots to bring him down just shows how strong he was; wild animals like that are not pets. period. When they attack, they aren't changing for the worse as some say; they're merely doing what wild animals do. The fact that they took Travis away from his mother and his habitat is disgusting. People like that should be charged with animal abuse and the equivalent of wildlife trafficking; those who pay to "Adopt" these animals and those who take the money are equally guilty. I don't care if a chimp can drive a car and drink wine, at the end of the day, they're still a chimp.
The 3rd victim was Travis's mother. She was tranquilized and her baby was taken from her. Apes share many similarities to humans so just imagine if a human baby was taken from it's mother in the same manner and given to someone who wanted to keep it as a pet 😢
Dear Brooke, I am going to have to give this one a miss , but I did let it play through for the algorithm. Your highlighting injustices is very important but I have to pick my heartaches carefully. Genie Wiley preys on my mind and I think of her daily, so I am sure you will understand. Thank you again for all your hard work!
This infuriated me back in 2009, and knowing more about the story makes it even worse. I didn't know just how creepily close the Herolds were with Travis. I mean, loving a pet is one thing, but letting it bathe, learn to drive a car, and drink wine with you is quite another. I wonder how their daughter was treated in relation to the chimp. I sympathize with the loss of their daughter and understand how that might have caused them to snap from trauma, but there should have been a law to intervene and take Travis away. Travis never should have lived there in the first place: to rip a wild animal from its' mother and try to domesticate it into the equivalent of a human being is outright animal abuse. These are wild animals, and should never be pets. I'm shocked that there was no law against this before. At the very least, when Travis reached sexual maturity and started getting aggressive, he should have been sent to a sanctuary. Keeping him there was abusive- so was letting him get obese from inactivity and eating ice cream; as well as attempting to medicate a 240 lb chimp with xanax. This goes past bizarre into abusive and idiotic. My heart has always gone out to Ms. Nash, I hope she is doing better today. I can't imagine the horrors that she has lived through, all because some eccentric (to put it mildly) rich couple decided to try to raise a chimp as their child and then were somehow shocked when he acted like the wild animal that he was. People should be charged for animal abuse for doing something like this. The Herolds needed therapy, not a wild animal to domesticate. I'm extremely creeped out that she shares her resting place with the chimp. They were clearly mentally ill and now , Charla, Travis, and Travis' poor mother have had to pay for their insanity.
I couldn't believe someone had a pet chimapanzee when this happened. All the animal documentaries we see on cable shows show how dangerous they are. Jane Goodall made sure she never got too close to them once they were certain age.
People should NOT be allowed to have any wild animal as a pet. That being said, I live in FL and one day driving to work I was at a stoplight, happen to look to the right lane next to me and saw a pickup truck that had the bed caged over and a full grown tiger in there! I don't know where he/she came from or where he/she was going to but what a beautiful animal. I live close by to Big Cat Rescue (yes, of Tiger King fame) and was wondering if they were bringing the tiger there. I know they used to take in big cats that somehow crazy people bought and thought they'd be able to raise it like a house cat only to find ... No. The truck could have had some sign on it but I was just too distracted seeing a tiger next to me in morning traffic! My heart goes out to Charla and all she's had to endure. She is indeed a strong woman. Always good to see another one of your videos Brooke!
I had not heard about this. 😢 How tragic. I love dogs and cats, but exercise caution around them and respect their space. I can’t imagine keeping a creature even more unpredictable with more strength.
Can we really be this stupid when are people going to learn ? You are on borrowed time with these primates , let’s not forget they are wild animals . He and every other monkey pet is deprived of so many things when taken away from their groups . Leave them in the wild they don’t need MacDonalds and televisions .
How do you feel when you report on something like this, where a person has lost their limbs and their face while you voluntarily undergo “plastic surgery”?
For over 25 years I trained animals, domestic, exotic and super exotic. Exotic and super exotic animals are wild animals and I don't care if they're raised generationally in cages, they are still wild animals. Wild animals do not make good pets! I shouldn't have to say that but it just shows where society is because I have to say that! 🙄😎

This is horrific. Why take him so early from his mom
The chimp still lived its life, i wouldn't necessarily compare that to death, or losing the ability to see and being permanantly disfigured
Omg!!! That poor woman! Should’ve never had a wild animal however she should’ve also sent him to sanctuary as soon as her late husband suggested it!
She's not the one who owned the chimp
