  • Sometimes you just have to get a little med-evil on engine components. Lathes and milling machines? Pfft, who needs 'em... Just start gouging on it.
    When working with parts like these there are actually some pretty close tolerances and parameters that have to be worked with. But, that doesn't mean some simple methods of material removal won't still work with a bit of craftiness.

    Cool video man. I'm in similar boat on my stroker 521 banshee except I need to reduce the 190 psi. I'm aiming for 170. Kicker has gone through my work boots. So I have the dome chucked in a dewalt drill, on a spark plug. I'll be spinning the drill and cutting the squish band with 36grit paper for a min or 2. Then 80 grit til I'm happy. Currently .040 squish so I'll cut til I'm at .060 on both and that should do it. And yes I'll be measuring volume on dome multiple times during. Cool ingenuity in vid tho. Thanks for that!!

    Summer of 2022 I reworked my Kawasaki triple head and a year or two before that a Kawasaki twin. I've spent my fair share of time building and modifying tools to make them do tasks that they were never intended for 🤟
    I do have a mill and lathe, but they are not suitable for machining the twin head, let alone the triple. I made a tool for both cutting the o-ring groove and a tool for recutting my squish profile. I used my mill and lathe to build the tools, but I had to turn the mill by hand as there was way too much chatter.
    This past summer I machined out my triple head and made a tool so that I could build my own domes. I used my lathe for this. I grew up with old ski roules, motoskis and was lucky enough to have a blizzard for a short while... what a beautiful snowmobile !
    I'm currently trying to convert my milling machine to CNC, but I totally agree... Thinking outside the box, using your head and hands is a great way to get a sense of accomplishment.

    Entertaining and educational as usual. Is that head from a Type 354 (339.2 cc rotary valve)? I have one stashed away that I ought to resurrect. And I as well have been procrastinating all summer and now it's November and cold and I have an unheated garage full of sleds to fix.

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yes, that's the 354 head. Cold garages promote good blood flow to the extremities, haha.

    I wish you would have more talked about how to determine the CC you need for the race fuel and all the science stuff. good video

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wish I knew a bit more of that science, haha. Was basically just doing a comparative increase in the head volume, like the stock was 24cc and the modified head was 21cc. So many things like exhaust port timing and pipe design affect the dynamic compression ratio it's hard to just come up with a number.

    Hey man have you ever ran into this issue. I ran out of gas with a Sthil m362 and the only option was to use the only gas left that has Husqvarna oil mix in it from a Husqvarna 450. The Sthil only ran about 10 min and then it wouldn't run anymore.Just bogged out. So I emptied the the gas out if the Sthil. But have yet to bleed the remaining fuel out of the lines. That sthil has been a mofo to start overall since the bs eco start system on it bout 10 years ago. Should I just put sthil mix back in and keep pumping the bulb for a couple weeks or am I gonna haft to get deeper into it to get the Husqvarna mix out of it? Thx man... And bad ass car lift vid mang!

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like it might have clogged up the spark arrestor screen in the exhaust, could have been half way plugged already, the different oil just done it quicker. I'd check that first. Some of the newer saws and stuff also have a cat in the exhaust, they can overheat/melt/plug up too. I've had to drill holes in the side of the muffler because the cat was plugged. They're ruining new equipment with how much emissions shit they put on them. Did it sound kind of flat and quieter than usual before it died?
      Thanks man, that car lift has been awesome so far!

    • @OfficialHankIII
      @OfficialHankIII 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i was running another saw so i didnt get to hear it to much other then it was just flooding out and wouldn't run no more AFTER WE ADDED THE OTHER OIL MIX ...AND 100% FUCK THE EPA HAAAAA !!!!
