Canberra: A Jet-Powered Successor

- In 1940, as the war was ramping up, the UK was suddenly very hungry for aircraft, and needed as many of them as possible as quickly as possible. In order to maximize the output and strengthen the Royal Air Force, the government decided to employ secondary manufacturers to produce time-tested designs via licensed manufacturing arrangements. One of the companies employed by the Air Ministry was English Electric: it didn’t make any contemporary designs but at the very least wasn’t completely new to the aircraft business.

That plane has nothing to do with the normal Canberra
@@derlolboyI mean it's very different but to say it's got nothing to do with it is bollocks

It’s funny hearing non-Australians pronounce Australian place names - here it’s more like “canbruh”, with much less of a pause as the VA is saying.
I grew up in the UK but my primary school had a ANZAC cemetery next to it where victims of the Spanish flu were buried. We would commemorate ANZAC day each year and all all our classes were named after Australian and New Zealand cities, one of them being Canberra. Always find it strange when people say can-bear-a just cause we were taught how to pronounce it properly at school.
You'll may hear the occasional drop bear in Canberra (kan·buh·ruh), but you'll have to go outside Australia to hear a can-bear-a
Cann-Bearr-ahs
@@fin7372I'm Norwegian, and I know how to pronounce it.
in the UK we tend to get it right, but yeah outside of the commonwealth especially you get that. Especially since in the US, they tend to have quite a lot of place names taken from England. So pronouncing those "their way" reinforces that assumption, leading to "Birmingham" being "ber-ming-ham" and not "burm-ingum" for example
So my grandfather worked on the B-57 in Alaska and anytime someone mentions that bomber he tells this story.
He and his crew got another B-57 in for maintenance and their CO was pushing to get it ready in double time so it could participate in low level intruder training. Basically a B-57 would fly out from the base and then try to sneak back in under the radar. So my grandfather gets the work done on time and then takes the day off to go moose hunting with a buddy of his. They get out to the woods and start trekking through the snow when my grandfather hears a jet overhead. He looks up just as a B-57 roars by at less than 800 feet. It does a circle around him and his buddy, effectively scaring off all moose in the area, before moving on to the base. The B-57 was so low my grandfather could see the tail number. It was the same one he fixed the day before. He never had another chance to go moose hunting and to this day is still livid with that pilot for ruining his chances.
a grudge for the ages, don’t mess with a mans hunt

In game, these are used quite effectively as a test bed for how well enemy missiles affect your aircraft.

No mention of the British Canberra with a fighter-style cockpit, offset to the side? That's the most iconic version after all!

What do I think about the Canberra? When I left school at 15 I went to work at Aircraft Servicing Flight at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus on B2,B4 and PR7. Canberra's so at 15 it was a dream job although I never joined the RAF. now 64 years later I still remember the Canberra with fondness.
The camberra was one of the more normal looking designs by the guy who drawn blueprints for wyvern and lightning as well. I absolutely like to troll in GRB with the B Mk.2 with its 4,000 pounder.
The RB-57D, a variant of the canberra was also the first plane to be shot down by SAM in history, so it would be an unfortunat first-time record for it.
one of my first jobs in my RAAF maintenance career was to service batteries. I fondly remember the day 3AD quietly restored a recently retired Canberra to airworthy condition for a fly over of the Chief of the Air Force's parade (he was an ex Canberra pilot). My task was to service the enormous main battery, which comprised of four lead acid batteries on a pallet/rack, and the emergency battery, a small nicad battery.

Underrated comment
Hey Gaijin, maybe don't put unarmed bombers with no countermeasures at the same BR with air-spawning attackers that have missiles? That'd be great! I'd rather not have the ability to survive past a couple minutes be determined entirely by whether or not someone notices my plane's existence.
On the b57B you can equip rockets as countermeasures
@@theverminator8048 Good for it, but that doesn't help the unarmed ones at the same BR.
@@theverminator8048I mean you’re also stuck with a copy-pasted Canberra with twice the turn time for some unexplained Gaijin reasoning
Nahhh comrad player!!!
It is working as intended 😂😂😂
Perfectly balance BR, my 🐎💩
Bro the Canberra is crazy maneuverable below 700km/h it feels like a zero, I’ve dodged many missiles from plane like the A-4E and sabres.
When will we get the aircraft inbetween the Lincoln and the Canberra? The Washington B Mk.1???? We are still missing this iconic RAF aircraft that had it's role replaced by the Canberra and V-bombers. Similarly when will we get the V-Bombers? The Buccaneer was the replacement for the F-111K which was to be the replacement for the TSR.2 which was made to replace the aging V-Bomber fleets. We are missing so many bombers inbetween that will work within the current game which us Bomber mains are still waiting for since 2013.
NASA still uses one, its highly modified though, they use it for high alt stuff. I love the B-57 in game on WT.
Q: will we ever get a rundown on types of armor?
Loved the old Canberra. The Photo Reconnaisance variants survived in service with the RAF into the 21st Century. Its a shame we don't make aircraft to last like that any more. We usually pronouce it 'Can-bruh', btw.
Also gaijin: put it at 8.3 where it can face supersonic jets with missiles despite not having any defense and handling like a boat.
Canberra handles pretty good
@@liamcraven4936 Yes, and it does not change the fact that when you meet an ir missile you are going to combust into a jizz.
Bro it’s super maneuverable below 700km/h
Dude has clearly never flown the Canberra it’s an amazing turn fighter. Also it’s not the only plane that can face supersonic jets with missiles.
@@Deuce_and_a_half Bro the b57 has guns? Then stfu. You can be a fuvking turn fighter without guns.
I saw one of these at the air show last year, was impressive to see it flying!
I love the Canberra, helps me break even with SL whenever I’m playing sabres and G.91s
Gaijin, please add the modern Indian Air Force roundel!
The current one in War Thunder is the one that the Indian Air Force used for just 3 years!
They were extremely cool for their time. I climbed through one when I was young. Comfortable is not a word that comes to mind.
Extremely underrated bomber, one of my favorite bombers in war thunder.
What i love about the American version is that martin build it with a rotating bomb bay, much like their other famous project from The 50s, the seamaster
Didn't even bother mentioning Australia's Canberra bombers?
Just how dumb can gaijin be...
Can't wait to see the G variant that was employed during the Vietnam war added to the game.
My dad knew a guy in the Indian Air Force during the kargil war.
They had Reconnaissance Canberras running all night and day until the war ended.
They would come down every couple hours and and the guy would remove the camera reel and analyze it and send it to the War Department in Delhi. Even told me a story of helicopters bringing in wounded seeing them up close...
Now one of those Canberras is now on public display at some college in Pune.
They used to have a cockpit for a Canberra at the Yorkshire air museum, more cramped than expected for a bomber
As someone who has a Canberra pfp I am very happy to see this video because the Canberra is my favourite plane
Studying and watching wt video couldn't ask for more
Canberra, one word, was not used in the Falklands. There was a ship there with the same name.
This mean your gonna put them back to 7.7 so their playable again?
Canberra is a WarThunder classic!
NASA still uses the photo recon variant for high altitude research
Will it be able to take photos? RAF Luton want to know.
I have seen a real canberra at the IAF museam in Delhi. Cool Aircraft
Here’s some classified military documents: L3/33 was the best tank and could one hit any tank!!
Canberra's neat, as well as the mosquito. Would be cool if more building destruction physics came into play, and for each map. If you have watched "the bombardment" you'll know what I mean with the mosquito aircraft and destruction physics.
if the mosquito is so legendary why is it basically unplayable in WT?
Keep going almost there
Some of the very highly modified versions of the B57 were used up until recently by NASA
You forgot to mention the Canberras service In Rhodesia
The new ticket visual is auful
Love this plane. ❤🔥 I sure would love to get a fully detailed cockpit interior for the B-57B in WT, too. Please, Gaijin? 🙏
The UK still operates them from RAF Luton.
While going through a museum in India having Canberra Aircraft with a Canopy similar to Sea Vixen, that is the bubble was shifted towards one side of the Aircraft. my question is why was this variant created?
Yeah thanks I read the description though
In service testing against the Meteor's of the time - the tests were so unfair - and the results so bad for the Meteors that they forced Canberra's into operational areas that suited the Meteors. Until that happened, the Meteors failed in trying to deal with the Canberra's.
The RAF pilots of high flying Canberra's were seconded into the US high altitude programs.
Its window was short were it was a world beater. But it was in that window a world beater, and long after its halcyon days it served in multiple duties.
But how many cans could a "can barer" bare?
The b 57 g was the first plane can use laser bomb during Vietnam war !
Okay, but when do the Canberras without guns go to 7.7?
I cant uses my b29 and b57 in games for more then 2 seconds, needs to be put down a battle rating
Why is there no B-58 in WT ?
Will we ever get the Vulcan and its own accidental low radar signature in game?
What about the V bombers? You still haven´t added one of them.
will we ever get better bomb loads for the mosquito + the weapon less versions for extra speed?
For a bomber its extremely maneuverable, and also just lots of fun to play
Will we get the CF-100? Canadas first and only self produced attack fighter? Maybe in the British tree?
Favourite British Jet ever
Not Can Berra, Cannnbra. Its like when people pronounce Melbourne Mel Born rather than Melb'n. Almost like spanish, where my father is 47 years old, rather than my potato has 47......
Hey fellas, can you tell me something about your plans for artillery in game? That is not really the final option to let them drive like normal tanks, isnt it?
Speaking of replacing the Mosquito, when are we getting a bomber version of the Mossie?
Are we gonna get a B-52?
And the B-47
Well for one @war thunder I think you need to review the hawker Hunter f6 and give it the option of carrying 4 aim 9b air to air missiles and the option of the sraams as historically they did take aim 9’s and gives them something with a bit more range also I feel the f6 and fga 9 need there external fuel tanks added as the fuel for them is not sufficient enough for matches.
Gaijin/war thunder pls sponsor Z1 gaming he said if you sponsor him he will post a whole video dedicated to war thunder
i think i have some still classified documents on it from my grandpa, would you like me to share with you Gaijin?
