You destroy a tank in 2 kicks, everyone dies with one kick, you can throw a sausage, you can even fly (jumping on a box). In the end you kill Hitler in a blimp. Oh, and in Polish version all the voices are dubbed by the same guy who sounds like he just drank all the alcohol. He even voices a woman!
Hold the phone, they are still making vidoegames in 2023 where the shooting is fun and you don't need to grind sidequests or level up or explore a copy paste open world, where you don't have to go through dialogue trees that you have no impact on and you don't have to be "immersed" in the "rich" story or "believable world". Yeah man, AA games have been on the rise over the last few years. It's like 90% of what I play these days (even more than indies.) Feels freaking great. Especially because most of these games actually do have depth and a lot of replayability if you want to engage with it.
I totally agree, after all what were video games originally? A passion where fun and personal challenge were the main objectives, where replayability was a function of reliving the experience also with the second aim of perfecting knowledge of the game while art and music had the function of enriching the experience. Nowadays, especially AAA, aim to make gigantic games that last tons of hours, deep dialogues that aim to replicate cinematic experiences and above all side missions and/or collectibles for the sole purpose of artificially extending the longevity of a title, all in front of an audience that has the sole purpose of accumulating games, but without becoming emotionally attached to any of them. Indie games, Arcade games, but also our beloved Gungrave make us remember the charm of video games made in the "old way", where the gameplay is the absolute central fulcrum of the game and it will always be a pleasure to replay it (provided you appreciate its gameplay, but that's a matter of personal taste).
