In these modern times, grain is harvested by combines, sent off to a mill where it is dropped into a hopper and then it is ground- whether it is modern wheat or einkorn makes little difference. Have you ever seen the last acre of the wheat (for simplification) field? It's a literal carnage. Thousands of birds, reptiles, rodents, even baby deer are shredded to pieces. Have you seen the hoppers? There are more ground insects and faeces in a cup of flour than in any other foodstuff. It's an unavoidable fact where machinery- and not human labour- is involved. In order to have a truly clean grain (so that there are no insects in it, nor does it cause an enormous suffering to the animals), it would have to be harvested, sifted and ground entirely by hand.
The word "Das" that you frequently use throughout this lecture has been elusive for me in determining its actual definition. Knowing the Hebrew spelling of this word would be helpful in pursuit of understanding the meaning. "Das" seems to be ambiguous with many different meanings. As one converting to Judaism, and studying Biblical Hebrew, I appreciate your lectures, thank you.
