HSP - HALAL SNACK PACK - Melbourne street food invention - Australian food tour

- In this episode of The Hunger Fixer's food tour of Melbourne we try an iconic Melbourne food invention, a late night snack called HSP or Halal Snack Pack.
We try Smith Kebab's in Fitroy, for their awesome HSP, one of the largest Halal Snack Packs sold in the area.
There is an option of Lamb Or Chicken or Mixed HSP, and we chose the mixed HSP to taste both the Lamb and Chicken combined.
The result was one of the best HSP I've had for a long time. The chips were hot, crispy and fresh while the sliced rotisserie meats were well marinated which was full of
flavour and saturated the chips underneath.

Watching this while eating my hsp
Cool mate, hope it taste as good as what I got. :)
How much was it there ?
@@jimjones3173 $16.50 for large and $11.50 for small if I recall correctly.
@@thehungerfixer6027 holy expensive!! 16 dollars?!? It makes me full but come onnn
Now THAT looks delicious. Never had a HSP before!
Missing out on something dude
Barbeque, Garlic, and Chill sauce ~ Holy Trinity is always a win anywhere.
Demolition General How can Help U
General Juhziz
my order: mixed meats, bbq sauce, garlic sauce, sweet chilli sauce
Delicious! Going to get one now.
Nah bro, there's no such thing as a holy trinity in islam so we do hommus, garlic, sour cream and hot chilli LIKE A BOSS
How has this not caught on in other countries yet? It's almost like a food cheat code. Sometimes nothing tastes better than a gnarly HSP from a dirty kebab shop when you're half pissed at 3 in the morning.
Bro we have like 3 restaurants in my city with everything to make them and they just fuckin... wont. I just asked a newer street truck to try it out. I'll check back in a week or so..
5:19 " this just fill you right up '' mmm yess
His eyes when he took each bite
Any chance for some lockdown vids? I'm so hungry here in Vic. Miss your vids man.
So hard to do when Melbourne's in a second wave :) Let's see where what the new Covid normal will be like on the other side.
I eat 5 of those a week once a day
Impressive! I like to be on the move and try lots of other stuff. I hope this video inspires you to have some more. I've had a few HSP from various places and some seem to over do it with the seasoning but this place in the video got it spot on as per my honest review.
The Hunger Fixer yes this video was great I just go to my local kebab house their good to
Well i eat 10 of those a week, twice a day
@@edzilla55 bunny that just means diabetes
My first HSP was at i♡istanbul over at Collins St. in Melbourne.
Yes, I've passed that place, but never tried it. Was it as good ?
@@thehungerfixer6027 it's a wonderful place. Friendly staff and good portions (though I always ask for extra meat!). Their doner is well spiced and goes well with their nicely toasted bread (or wrap if they have it). Their HSP is also quite good. I personally just go for garlic sauce.
I wonder if they still have that arcade machine table...
Man I miss hsp's (and Melbourne)… best meal ever!
No
@@tanthaman uh? yes
Come back. We miss you too
This is me talking to my mates after a night out on the piss. Nobody understands my passion for a good HSP
I've been trying to get places in the states to sell these forever. One day... I also imported chicken salt from down under.
Can’t get hsp now, I don’t wanna travel 1 hour by ptv just to get to Fitzroy. If there is one in richmond yay.
There are a few in Richmond. Smith Kebabs also have a branch in Chapel St, Prahran, but the last time I went there the prices have increased :(
Don’t agree about it being an Melbourne invention but I do agree it’s a good snack pack👍🏽
It was actually Melbourne created it donkey
It is 100% a Melbourne invention mate lol. Now you can buy a HSP on just about every corner from the outer suburbs inward.
@@dimewylde639 dosent mean you invented it can also do that in brisbane and sydney
@@MelioraDH I thought it was common knowledge they started in Melbourne though, HSP was the norm here before they even became a thing in any other state. Been around for well over a decade down here now.
@@dimewylde639 a decade you are aware hsp's started in the 80s champ yeah?
As a kiwi I love the name, here we just call it "Meat on Chips"
I don’t know about the rest of yous but I only put Lamb sometimes mix and only garlic and chilli sauce
Different strokes for different folks. Right on!
Heart attack food! Perfect for a cold winters night after getting a bit stinky over drinks :D
It's not a good HSP if it doesn't take at least 3 years of your life
OMFG I miss this!😭😭😭
When i come back to australia...
When are you gonna upload again?
Soon. Just getting over this Covid stuff.
great video Sam
wow amazing
Just ordered hsp on Uber eats from here coz of this video thanks :)
Great! Hope you loved it.
I'm high watching this because ima get some hsp later
fking same 😂 I'm just appreciating whats coming in my near future
Ya tempting me to get high no lie
Do you now the owner of the shop is my friends dad I go there for dinner sometimes
are you on speed mate, your eyes
So we've finally figured out what our sons kept talking about...HSPs:). And how much is that HSP he is eating?
That's a large, about $15. I think the small was $12. They are found in almost all Kebab shops now, a truly Melbourne thing. I liked this one the most.
@@thehungerfixer6027 thanks.... We'll go there with our sons to see if they'll give it their seal of approval:)
@@1chelp They also have a branch on Chapel st Prahran if that's closer to you.
@@thehungerfixer6027 thanks!
I wish we had this in the USA
Open up a HSP shop there! As you can see its easy to create!
Love from Melbourne 🇦🇺❤
Looks awesome...delicious.
Good Day! It's Rilum Osmanaj here today!
Peace.
Good day to you too Sir.
Hey mate! Great review. Hope you keep up the good work!
Thanks mate!
"good work" like... eating at a restaurant, saying "it tastes good"? lol
He said melbourne 35times omg
Wow, you counted it? Impressed!
Hi was that a small or large and what's the price
Hi @Retahanna85, that was a large, $16.50. Small ones are $11.
I really miss HSP
Incredible review made my day 😊
Thanks :)
Very nice
amazing video!! keep it up ^_^
Your eyes are about to pop out mate
So it's just donner meat and chips ,that's been around for years in the UK, apart from the mozzarella cheese
And the medley of sauces!
@@thehungerfixer6027 we get a huge choice of sauces as well, personally I usually have hot chili and mint yogurt on mine.
@@richardbryant3169 Sounds good.
Hello....
Just wondering what "sauce brands" are used in the snack packs?
Or are they homemade?
I doubt they are homemade, likely ready made commercial ones, but I think their meat marinades are homemade blend of spices (which they wouldn't reveal).
I will try to get you the info next time I visit them bro.
All good
the chilli sauce is the master foods hot chilli atleast
@@denizsahin4176 yeah if someone uses anything else they are cowards. Bbq and garlic can be any brand usually but ya dont fuck with the chilli sauce.(sriracha is aiieet too)
Yummm!!
Dude you're in Collingwood not Fitzroy...
Yeah, you're right.
Looks great. But I personally think cheddar cheese is much better for a hsp than mozzarella. Mozzarella is bland and completely loses its flavour when mixed with all that sauce. Cheddar is sharp and still holds its flavour with all the sauce.
Lol isn’t that in Sydney road
Nah Mate, it's on Smith St, Collingwood.
Oh ok thanks
Same I thought it was Sydney rd
god i love hsp
Mashallah
TAN IS THAT YOU MATE>?
yea
@@1tansu1 Nah it wasn't him
The holy trinity gods
chow lee
Mashallah it's too yummy.
I wish i could get this where i live in the US, but all that i find when i google hsp is a disease 😞
Melbourne invention my ass.
Barbecue on a shawarma ? End of the world !!!!
That aint a "Melbourne Invention" ahahahahahaha, 95% of Sydneys Kebab shops have been selling these since early 90s
Melbourne has done since the 80s tho
It's been happening in Sydney since the 1980s nit 1990s
Adelaide claims to have invented in late 60s. So both wrong. From a Melbournian
@@adammaggs8563You all wrong bro they made it already in the late 30's in Sydney...
I had eat alot in DANDENONG 😅😅
It's not a melbourne invention mate. This is literally all across australia, and it was in Sydney before Melbourne
How much was it?
AUD $16.50 for the Large pack shown in the video, I think the smaller size was $11.
Invented in SYDNEY. WEST SIDE. get your facts right mate
Omg bbq sauce on kebob is offensive
wrong
Not putting tomatoes in it should be a crime
halal has nothing to do with australia but great food by the way halal means allowed which means cow or chicken was butchered according to muslim tradition and religion its not just a word for middle eastern food
actually arab immigrants have been making this for years in western europe in Holland and Belgium for example it's called Kapsalon
Yup, but with salad on top though. Who has time for salad? Lol
Yes and they've been around in Australia for decades.
@@thehungerfixer6027 🤣🤣
Called it AB in Adelaide 😂
What does AB stand for?
Is halal better then non halal .
It's just a religious term (i.e. Kosher) incorporated to this delicious street food which I personally think reflects our multicultural diversity here in Australia. Whether a meat is Halal or not, you won't be able to taste the difference.
Enak pak lek
GOAT food
Australian meat no1 quality in the world
No
NOT A MELBOURNE INVENTION LADS
y no wear latex gloves while cooking n serving
He was using metal utensils the whole way and not handling the food directly with the hands so I was fine with that.
The HSP didn't originate in Melbourne
Lovey
You don’t get that much meat in Perth
Really ? How much is a standard one ? Perhaps there is a double meat option.
Honestly just depends where you go in Perth. I also find that going to the store over Menulog/Uber will get you more meat
Is anyone here from my class of 8/9 Fast foods.
i thought that was chow lee
I'm not so sure it is a Melbourne invention. Because shops in Adelaide sell the AB, which is the same thing without the cheese & the AB has been around since at least 1990. AB is decidedly politically correct, being called Abortion by its originator.
Actually it is a shepparton invention
these are real kebab joints, not the ones that uses tekfood suppliers.
hsp mate
This was created in Western Sydney, not Melbourne lol
I think the poster means, the HSP was created in Sydney, aka the original HSP.
@@leiflala Adelaide's also staking its claim as the original with their "AB".
Stfu it said collingwood idiot
Nigga it’s Melbourne don’t u see the trams in middle of road 🤦♂️
its a snack pack not a rocket ya spinner
GSP
GHEE, MELBOURNE DIDN'T INVENT THE SNACKPACK
nobody calls them a HSP
Then what is it called?
This is the cringest video I have ever seen in my life.
Yeh he is embarrassing
Nah the Turkish Dons in the innerwest of Sydney have the best snack packs.. that Melbourne bs shit looks dry and bland, only thing youre tasting is the sauce lol
Melb invention... I beg to differ broooo Sydney started that shit.
Mona she want a man like that same kerkert
That's decadent. I'd say leave out two sauces, cheese and replace fries with a salad. Then it would be perfect. #Paleo
Replace meat with fried Tofu and have a Vegan version of this ?
might as well replace the chips with deep fried mars bars make it a real crazy ozzy meal
That'll be a Scottish HSP mate!
@@thehungerfixer6027 your talkin sheep offle mate im from bondie beach between the flags hsp
Halal meat is just an industry that aims to produce meat in a more ethical way than the current murderous mass factory farming that prioritises profits over everything. The Halal Food industry at least makes an attempt at prioritising ethically producing meat. Ethics that are set by the Islamic Religion. Ethics that are in line with other Abrahamic faiths such as Judaism and Christianity. Halal food is something all people should welcome, it's a practice that's very much in line with the Vegan movement, though not as extreme.
rubbish comment slow kill for animals is that what you like you a sadist
So dramatic
Does he have to speak that loud?
Very bad taste that shop
this makes me ashamed to be australian
Correct brother
Why 😐
This comment actually makes me ashamed to breath the same air as you 🤦🤮
The snack pack is the best thing Australia has ever invented 🤤
Lol okay keep eating shit food then
