Oh my, I have no idea how I missed this video when originally researching the em1x. This is by far the best, most comprehensive feature overview I've seen. You did a truly excellent job and I appreciate the information. Just subscribed. As an em1 mkii owner, this is a serious upgrade for specific use cases, I just wish I could afford it. Thanks again for the excellent info!

Excellent review without the show and hype. A straight forward and detailed explanation of features. This is the most technically informative video I have seen and the only one that covered all the features and details I was interested in. The limitations of M43 sensors are well established. They are not ideal for very low light or very high ISO (above 3200). But they can be amazing for more. "normal" photography. And quite frankly with a little skill in post processing and shooting RAW you can actually take them higher for normal publication purposes. I am fascinated by the hand held hi-rez. Images I have seen are impressive. Thanks again for a professional and fact-based review. I know you full printed review will touch upon limitations where appropriate. But this video told me. and demonstrated a lot of what I wanted to know.
Now if you want more hits, get a scary clown, or a half naked lady, mess up you hair and scream into the camera like a crazy person, and be sure to say that you can't shoot in low light except with a FF camera, and everyone needs to shoot in very low light at very high ISO so must buy a full frame camera and then emphasize how big the E-M1X body is compared to other Olympus bodies, Make certain that you and your image dominates the camera (ignoring the smaller lens size for a comparable angle of view,) and scream some more how Olympus is no good for low light and everyone needs to shoot at high ISO a lot. -- Thanks for a good video preview, and also a good printed online introduction. Will look forward to your full objective tests.

This was a great review/preview and felt very to the point. As a complete sceptic to this camera (not the size though) and it's lack of visible technological advancement you were able to, in many ways, turn me. It looks like, even though they've re-used almost everything (evf, display, cpu, sensor etc) there are some much deeper things underneath the surface.

Body's in my bag now are,
    Lumix G9
    Lumix LX 100-II
    NIKON D-800
    NIKON D-7500.
    ORDERED TODAY FROM AMAZON.
PS. perhaps at the original price I would pass and buy the NIKON D-850. Now I can buy a 100 to 400 lumix Leica lens and this body for a $3,000 range.

Im an m43 user, but i have some doubts about this camera, mainly because being focused on sports/action photography, (which means the need for good high ISO performance so you can assure fast shutter speeds), i think it doesn't show any improvement in that matter comparing to other m43 bodies out there, from what i've seen so far on the latest reviews. The improved stabilization and handheld high res, means nothing for action photography, where you still need fast shutter and high ISO, which is once again, the main focus of this camera. The high ISO performance just doesn't look any good. Don´t get me wrong, i really like Olympus, but i start to question if this is the future of m43....

Re weather sealing ! Having owned a 40-150 pro zoom for a year and finding it had moisture inside I would be very careful about the claims Olympus make. They wanted to charge me £400 to fix it. It had hardly ever been exposed to the elements and had been looked after pretty well ( 1 three week trip to Sri Lanka in a good non tropical season was its hardest test) . Their warranty excludes water ingress if you look at the small print, therefore if the lenses are not water tight i would be very dubious about exposing them to " TH-cam type tests". Most of these reviews are with cameras people don't actually own themselves!!

A lot of attention on the EVF and its reported shortcomings seems to have originated in Jared Polin's video. He missed quite a few things in his critique, for one this EVF is progressive and not interlaced, so much better at displaying quick motion than what you get in other cameras. Another thing is that beyond a certain point, resolution in the EVF is not really meant to be pixel peeped, so yes higher resolution is nice, but I would not consider it a show stopper or a catastrophic fail. The OLED argument that he also brought up is more relevant when talking about the main display, with your eye to the EVF there is not really any sun reflecting in the display when you are using it. But of course, if you find the EVF unacceptable, then I guess you should avoid this camera.

    • @gregs4163
      @gregs4163 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@moo These manufactures that are using OLED in their higher end cameras are going to find that it is an inferior technology as their long term performance hasn't been proven. they are very prone to burn-in and have nowhere near the 5ms refresh rate of the E-M1X, OLED also degrade in their refresh rate over time. So these displays may look very good now but in time will degrade. This is why Olympus went the root they did proven technology, smart in my book.

All the testing confirms it has the same image quality as the EM1 ii, a camera I owned, decent image quality and a great camera, but not good in low light. The auto focus isn't great, and all recent testing confirms that. You have to ignore upfront tests from those invited to the Olympus event, and Olympus 'visionaries' and wait for independent reviewers to assess this camera. Sure, it's got some great gimmicks, but this is a £3k camera, which dispenses with M4/3's USP, of small size and weight. It isn't great for sports and wildlife, and that's where it's being pitched. I've had Olympus cameras for years and love the build quality and the usability, but they have in my opinion, made a huge mistake with this one. Oh, and they've installed the same dated EVF, but that's OK, because you can move your focus points diagonally now, who cares? When they put a full frame sensor in an EM1 ii, then I may migrate back to Olympus, but image quality, autofocus, and low light performance are key deciders for me, not gimmicks added to old technology. I just don't see any market for this camera, and certainly not at the price point it's being pitched at. Despite upfront claims, what we'll see is that the Hi res mode has limited functionality, as does the inbuilt ND filter, which has already been shown to render some very strange effects when photographing water or seascapes.

-But the point is you don't HAVE to add the battery grip to the EM1ii, right?
-This is a great viewfinder...4 years ago. As an FYI you lose a little bit of credibility when you don't call a spade a spade. This is a recycled EVF using LCD technology from the same EM1ii. To put it in perspective it has 55% LESS resolution than the Panasonic G9 which was released over a year ago. Sure it increased its magnification. So what. Now you can see the IQ breakdown better when you zoom in?
-As for the buffer, the EM1ii also has dual processors so there's no advantage...unless you're writing the same files to both slots and have 2 uhs ii cards inserted.
-The new AF Algorithms are cool. It's a shame they don't deploy a firmware update to the EM1ii as it could handle it where it has the exact same 3 year old AF system hardware.
-Again the video comments are complete rubbish. "significant strides"???? The specs are the SAME as the EM1ii. It's also worth noting that nobody has ever proven that they can even hit 237mbs. Meanwhile the XT3 can and does hit 400mbs. Come on, guys. Keep it real.
-Look it's great to stay positive and I'm sure there's pressure from camera manufacturers who give you pre production perks and what not, but there's a fine line between staying positive and overtly gushing over a camera that has 90% recycled tech and hardware. The EM1x is good. A bit weird in its size and heft, but a good camera. The problem is so is the EM1ii and you can have 90% of the X in that camera for a fraction of the cost.

For Wildlife this MFT? What a joke. Ever thought that majority of Wildlife pictures, especially birds, is taken early morning or later afternoon where the light is poor. This tiny, dinky sensor based MFT is falling apart at low light. Forget about it. I purchased my Sony A9 for 3000 USD (same as the E-M1X is sold) and this camera really, really delivers. So forget about this MFT. It is about to die anyway.
