My family used to store cars in there I remember my dad telling us kids to get out and walk over that bridge long before it fell cause it would move from the weight of the cars going over it . 1999 we were told to get out .
There's a great video on TH-cam called Packard builds Merlins. It covers this now gone Packard plant and surrounding buildings. A huge undertaking for the manufacturing of the Merlin engines by Packard under license during WW2. It showed the expansion of this plant along with many other new buildings around it due to the war demand for these engines in the early 1940's. It's hard to believe that only 18 short years later, Packard was out of business and this huge factory complex was abandoned. By 1958, this factory was so outdated and obsolete that it's no wonder that no other company bought it to utilize it for further manufacturing. Let's all hope the remaining portions are bought and restored for use. That would be awesome.
Thank you for doing these videos on the progress of the packard. I went inside in 2021 with some friends. Got some great memories and good some everlasting pictures. Rip packard
42 years ive been going by that Plant. I turn 43 in a week. Gonna moss the ol Eyesore..... what was... modt kids dont know what a Packard even was.... they were D O P E automobiles... luxury... beauty... elegance... reliability... 😢❤
It's good that they have these renovations and great potential , the Packard is gone but the memories will hang on . I'm sure someone has a vision for the portions remaining and the blocks of freed up space . Thank you for the update ☺️ farewell Packard 🫡
I'm especially sad because I have been watching TH-cam videos about the plant today and how Packard originally started. It was quite an operation back then. Farewell indeed to the Packard Plant. I'm glad there are at least a couple building left. I hope to come see them soon!
Still amazed this isn't bigger news. This is an icon of Detroit's decline and only heard here! What's amazing is how little land it seems when you build or destroy big buildings. It's like in Royal Oak when they build a tall condo and the lot seems tiny. Then when they build it, it seems gigantic.
Imagine the Detroit Lions move their training facility from Allen Park to the Packard ste. It would revitalize this neighborhood, perhaps encouraging more redevelopment in this area.
@@dohdoh2430 Lions president Woods has already said they are looking to RELOCATE their practice facility. Canton, Fail Jail site, Herman Keifer hospital site & Allen Park are being considered. I also thought the parkard site would be a good location. Its large and close to I-94.
@davidcoleman8062 Thanks, and we really need to put this statement on more of our videos: "Since exiting bankruptcy, Detroit has experienced balanced budgets and is wisely investing it's rescue plan money!"
@FrankaiVideos-DetroitsComeback I would like to thank you for a very interesting video. It's great that our city is coming back to life. Keep up the good work.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮still unbelievable. this right here is a win. If the city is gonna save those two building they themselves should Reno them could even turn them into sun kinda museum for the Packard Plant which u could leave one building in its current state n Reno the other back to original
Not quite sure WHY mayor Duggan turned down Northpoints offer to redevelop this property. Only because they couldn't use those 2 old remaining buildings. So Northpoint walked away. Whats so special about those 2 decrepit old buildings. Knock it ALL down and build something new there. Btw I used to live in that area in the 60s & 70s.
My old neighborhood I was born an raised I use to play all up and down the Packard plant road and I remember I got a CD antenna off a truck and they caught me but let me go
Why does it say Southwest Detroit at the start of the views of the demolished Packard plant when the Packard plant IS NOT in Southwest Detroit? What's the Southwest Detroit area got to do with the Packard plant?
That is called a "card." It's not a label or caption. The caption says east side. The cards are links to other videos of ours. Go ahead, click on it for the "Detroit Neighborhoods Playlist " There are 4 other cards and 4 additional links at the video end. Explore. Enjoy! Thanks!

In a way, it's sad. Back in 2012, I was contracting for a client in Troy, and on my last day there, I went by and captured as many photos as I could.

Friend of mine has a 48 packard with a straight 8. That is the smoothest running engine I ever saw.
Finally! I hope the land is put to good use.
To think those neighbors had to live with all that blight for years
Not to mention the noise and dust and God only knows what else floated around in the air for the past few years during the demolition!
Still a lot of rubble to be cleaned up. That place was built like a fortress. It didn't come down easily.

Did they happen to save the big water tower that was on the building? Or did they scrap it with the rest of the metal?
@@brianteed7390 Scrapped. Sorry you missed the big debate about it in the comments on previous updates!
@FrankaiVideos-DetroitsComeback thanks for letting me know. I had hoped they would clean it up and put it in a park or preserve it some other way.
How many blocks exactly has it freed up ?
It's sad they couldn't have found a re-use for this very historic building. I'm hoping the land won't stay vacant for too long.
Wow amazing and sad finally
Imagine the Detroit Lions move their training facility from Allen Park to the Packard ste. It would revitalize this neighborhood, perhaps encouraging more redevelopment in this area.
But it would be bad for Allen Park. Your thinking is very strange..

Never thought it would happen in my lifetime!
Who's paying????

Wow that is amazing
The sad passing of America's manufacturing primacy.
Only 70yrs and still not done

How many days to get this far. Who paid or is paying for this. Were there funds available from the previous owner, and if so, who?
Take a guess..............................the city paid for it. The city seized the property from the previous owners.
