Second, Even if he was indeed the god of water, Rivers in the underworld are not normal rivers: they are not made of water. They are special rivers that have magical liquids flowing through them. Therefore they are not part of his domain.

I love how this animatic shows how the immense grief of losing his best friend affected him verry much, and probably impaired his decision making, im pretty sure in epic canon no man of his died in the war, and this kinda puts into perspective the importance of this event, the first time someone close to him suffered the consequences of his decisions, and it was his best friend.

Everyone focuses on Athena saying "Don't," but ignores the fact that her presence made the situation worse. Odysseus was leaving. He was done. And he was right, too. There were more cyclops. And they couldn't beat one. If they had turned to finish him off, they would have died.
Athena showing up and telling him to finish it was almost insulting. It felt like she cared less about the men that would die and more about the glory of her Warrior winning.

    • @fyysha
      @fyysha ปีที่แล้ว +1247

But thats exactly what her relationship with Odysseus was, she didnt love him as a friend. Of course, he was the man she loved most, but you could not equate it to the love one has for their friends yk. The gods used their heroes as toys, they controlled them, made them fight their monsters and showed them off for their own pleasure. Athena was no different, she cared only for her reputation and how Odysseus made her look. And its sad because youre right, if Athena had not come it wouldve spared Odysseus like 10 years perhaps. Mortal heroes never meant much to the gods, they played them like chess pieces.

Surely killing the cyclops would prove to be difficult and probably cost him some more comrades. I believe that the part where Odysseus reveals his name wasn't really influenced by Athena. It was clearly his ego. If you make that assumption then Athena was right, he was a threat and proved to be.

Can we discuss Athena's exclamation of "Don't" for a second? She knows exactly what he's about to do and knows, or at least has a good idea, of what will happen by giving his name. She even reaches out to try and stop him. She is trying to save him from more blood being on his hands. She tells him to turn off his emotions so that he has a higher xhance of winning without losing anyone he cares about.
Athena, with the few words she says here, truly shows that she does care for Odysseus. She knows how dangerous the cyclops is alive. It's not that she wanted more bloodshed, but rather, she wanted to save more by ending the one.
The singing in the song is phenomenal and we can feel the pain, fear, rage, sympathy, etc just everything. Truly a magnificent piece. The animation of is is shown off extremely well too.

Interestingly in the Odyssey Polyphemus knew by a prophecy that Odysseus would blind him. He just never imagined a tiny human be the infamous Odysseus. Odysseus was grief striken but also his pride was hurt because he was called a coward so he gave his name to show him he is not afraid of him. Polyphemus also left double course. Either Odysseus never reach home or if he does, reach without his comrades (which happened)

That would have been suicide, Athena was only looking for herself and her prestige, which is what all greek gods did, they weren't how a God is supposed to be, a REAL mentor, someone how taught morals and righteousness and cared for his people, someone who were truly wise and would teach true wisdom, someone who wasn't so selfish and proud and cared not only for himself and satisfying his whims, that's why I don't consider this gods true gods in their world and moment so to speak where they are considered as such because they don't have what a true god would have to have to be a god, and mercy would be part of that wisdom, if people where really merciful and loved each other and cared for morals and what is really good even in our world and time (or if they would have done that in the past too) there would be no wars, no more stupid bloodshed, war in itself is foolishness, it's not wise, that's why the fact that Athena is both goddess of wisdom AND war (being a lot more strategical, smart and cold-thinking than Ares who would be hot-headed and basically be like a volcano) is jarring and questioning at best

Another amazing video from Wolfy! I audibly gasped when you showed Polites, and I loved Eurylochus nearly shitting himself behind the rock with Odysseus! You showed the grief Ody went through as the first of his men died on his behalf since the war started 10 years prior, and it all culminating in Polite's death and him taking the discord canon headband from him. Top tier stuff! Keep the trauma coming!!!

Also the cyclops smile at the end was TERRIFYING knowing what Ody's gloating causes

Man, Odysseus... Really didn't make much of a mistake here. He still gets home eventually, lives a long life, gets his family back and dies mostly peacefully. It just.
    Took long.

    I am in LOVE!
In almost all of the animatics I've seen from Survival to My Goodbye, none of them have been bold enough to show Polities' body in such detail! You've given so much emotion to both sides, Odysseus and Polyphemus! You've given so much meaning to the song, fucking amazing work!
I know that the Epic community has you at its front lines with the impacts your animatics have caused, hyped up perfectly for amazing results!

This is a really cool animatic. I really like how you showed odyssey’s dissociating at the beginning and the emotional damage that he would have. I also really liked how you animated the cyclops eyes.

Had to endure my 3h class but as soon as I got out I watched this. It's so good! Everything, I cannot even being. Polites dead and how Odysseus shuts his eyes and grabs his bandana. All the subtle movements of the characters and the minute but powerful expresisons. I loved the eyes of the other cyclops, and also how they grabbed the sheep as they fled! And the smile at the end! Your animatic are amazing, your talent and hard work shine through, congrats! And thanks a lot for everything you do ;)

For a warrior of the mind, it's truly remarkable just how stupid Odysseus is.
It's even more remarkable in Wolfy's lovely art style, paired with the heartbreaking visuals :')

Nah Odysseus was very wise for the majority of his fight. He slipped up once painted by grief and his wish to let them be remembered. His only slip up was revealing his name.

Odysseus I hear what you're saying but a) that thing decided For You that this was going to end in death, b) you just gave him a Very Good Reason to hate you on top of murdering his favorite sheep/stealing his food/trying to make him forgive you by giving him drugged booze, and c) although WE know Polyphemus survives at least long enough to rat you out to Poseidon, YOU don't have any way of knowing he'll survive the trauma, blood loss, and potential for infection from HAVING HIS EYEBALL IMPALED WITH A GIANT SPLINTERY WOODEN OBJECT.
You wanna be merciful the sensible thing would've been to finish him off so there's NO chance he'll die a slow painful infection death after you leave. Dingus.
