- A family of fed-up farmers tipped more than 150 tyres onto an alleged fly tipper's driveway - as revenge after he reportedly 'dumped them on their land'.
Megan Baldwin's family-owned business Baldwin’s Landscape Supplies has had a problem with people dumping rubbish on their land for the last few years so asked friend Stephen Pownall to install CCTV in a nearby tree.
After spotting a white van pulling up on Tuesday afternoon [Aug 11], they saw a man dump one tyre after another on their crops in Wigan, Greater Manchester, until a pile of 151 was left.

Having lived on a farm, and woken up to rubbish in gateways, this video fills me with joy
However, all the people there would be arrested themselves including the farmer. The only guys who have the guts to do things like this, and not all be arrested because its too much hassle, are travellers. Not saying the farmer wasnt in on it, but I suspect he rang in his tractor as being missing 5 mins before.

We need more people doing this. A few weeks ago there was probably about a tonne of asbestos cement roof waste left in a lay by on the A146. Absolutely disgusting and probably cost that probably cost thousands to clear up. Good on that farmer.

As a former lawyer I used to prosecute flytippers on behalf of local authorities- when they could catch them. To use the legal terminology, these people are scum. Well done. This is probably more effective than legal action, but even if it isn't, it's a lot more entertaining.

Nah, they were travellers. Community members would all be arrested 10 mins later and the farmer would he prosecuted and made to pay for removal. Not saying they werent doing it for the farmer, but only travellers arent scared of being arrested. Even gangsters would wear hoods and masks.

Emergency services are the most under appreciated I can assure you, 15% suicide rate and an average of 5 personal assaults per emergency service member per 10 years of service. The general public despise police fire and ambulance staff.

Farmers like to think they are the most under appeciated people in the UK. However farmers hold the freehold to the vast quantity of land in the UK and understanderbly they are not letting go of that capital advantage any time soon. However they have a responsibility that involves not letting their land become an ecological desert featuring a handful of species sprayed with high nitrogen slurry every winter polluting our watercourses. Good old Farmer Giles.

@@edinfreehold1847 actually you will find the queen owns majority of the land, I believe around 80% is owned by her. Majority of farmers don't even own their land it's leased. I work with a guy who was a farmer for 50 years (since he was 15) and when the root and mouth came he lost everything because of having to euthanize every cow and sheep. He told me before foot and mouth a cow cost around £80 and now they are over 10x that. The farming business never recovered from foot and mouth.

Top marks to the Farmers. These fly tippers charge businesses and householders good money to remove their rubbish. But so they can keep as much of the cash as they can instead of paying to use authorised tips they then simply find a quiet lane or field to dump the rubbish. Pity the council environmental officers don't put more effort into catching these scumbags and confiscating their assets and vehicles.
People do not check the fly tippers license. The businesses and householders are just as much to blame.
Not much point council catching them. The penalties seem high but are a small % of the profits to be made so there's no deterrent. Tories don't like businesses getting big fines - kindred spirits. They regard fly tipping restrictions as red tape.
I used to work for the Forestry Commission years ago. This was a real problem in my beat and used to take quite a significant amount out of my budget. I used to go through the rubbish to gather evidence, but we rarely heard of any prosecutions. I really feel for farmers who have to put up with this kind of thing, it’s really unpleasant to drive past one of your field entrances to find a pile of (often toxic) garbage. These are the people who work in all weathers to put food on our plates and deserve much better.

In my country people make money by fly tipping because they are cheaper than proper disposal. Too bad my local forest is now peppered with piles of rubbish wherever you may look.

To give you an idea of costs involved, I would imagine the "company" that took these from a tyre garage will have charged around 60p to £1 per tyre to remove them. Based on 421 tyres he counted, the tyre garage will have been charged from £252 up to £421.
The cost from a legitimate waste removal company to dispose the tyres, at the time of filming, was on average £2 per tyre. In reality the tyre garage should have paid around £800 to dispose them!
It's a shame we never saw a follow up to this video, and the house owners reaction when they saw all the tyres dumped in their front garden!

@@dsd7004 Not really. Unless they do this on a regular basis, it could be a "new" company that offers their services at a discount for the first order.
It happens in this industry, unfortunately there are some who take advantage and dump tyres anywhere. Unfortunately this "company" got found out.
This isn't as bad as the large industrial unit in Bootle that went up in flames, with around 10,000 illegally stored tyres in it!
The same thing happend with a disused soft play area unit in St Helens, that also went up in flames with over a 1000 tyres in it.
I don't know how they get away with filling a unit with scrap tyres, but they do.

@@dsd7004 It was a massive blaze, expertly put out by the local fire brigade.
No arrests were made as the unit was rented under a fake business name.
Apparently the first 3 months rent was paid in cash, of course, and fake bank details given. 2 months after taking the unit over it mysteriosuly went up in flames.
Not the first time this has happened to a unit/warehouse that's been found to contain scrap tyres.
There was a huge farm near me that took old tires, it was maybe 20 acres of tires, and then they mysterious went up in flames, which conveniently made room for the guy to start collecting tires again, then about 20 years later when it caught fire again they figured out he was setting the fires, so the law went after him. I think he got jail time. Those tires burned for a month or two, you could see the black smoke for miles.

Slurry tanker with jet nozzle too. Those will put through most windows and fill whatever they belong to with a couple of thousand gallons of only the freshest manure smoothie. That house is well within range of one of those. Not even the Glade factory could cover up that stench

I learned what a fly tipper is. I found a good write up about the whole incident. Good on this farmer. He gave the guy an opportunity to right his wrong, …. but, he didn’t, so, good on the farmer and his good friends for their help.

Yes they can ! The problem is all the do-gooders who cry and have tantrums if someone gets a proper sentence. The Courts have all the power they need to ORDER the offender to clean up their mess properly, including paying all the cost, on top of whatever fine or penalty. The court of pubic (pun intended) opinion is what they are up against every day.
