I started one for 2023 and instead of doing rows for each day, I’m doing a granny square. The center color is the low temp of the day. The outside two rows are the high temp of the day. And if we get rain or snow, I have a shimmery blue and white to use in the middle row in place of the high temp getting two rows. It’s a bit more work, but so far I’m loving it! Now I need to figure out what color to use to connect them all.

I'm starting one for 2023! Seeing your journey with your blanket has really inspired me. Luckily yarn is on sale this time of year! Haha.
Also, instead of doing colors for the range of 0-100+ degrees, I'm taking in to account that my area ranges from 40-100+ degrees on average to make sure I use all my yarn. If not, most of the blanket would be red, and no blue!!

That works if you south. I'm in michigan, where it was about -20 wind chill near Christmas. It will be in the 90s July & August. The best piece of advice I got about crocheting is don't measure your progress by completing projects but by enjoying the process. I have been working for a month and I've finished almost nothing. I've never been so accomplished. I was never scared to pull out stitches and start again because I will crochet the same amount of time whether I finish anything or not. This isn't about making pretty things for others. It's about crocheting to make yourself feel good.

I'm doing more of a quilt for my temperature blanket with 52 plain grey squares for the weeks of the year and 2 blank to keep the rows even. For each "week" square I'm making a 7 petaled flower so each day has their own petal. Then I use 2 yarn threads for each petal so that they are dual toned in the high and low for that day. The only problem I haven't solved yet is that I haven't decided what to do for the last day of the year since 52 x 7 is only 364 but I've got the entire year to figure something out 😋

I would also say to make sure you dont get thin yarn, I tried a temperature blanket last year and never finished it because using thin yarn that wasnt that gratifying. Also, dont use too small a stitch, sc is okay, but it takes forever to reach the end of the row. I'm trying again with thicker, softer warn (not fluffy or super thick yarn, like this stuff is considered a normal type), and I'm doing a moss stitch so it feels like I reach the end of the row much quicker. And I like to keep a chart, so i can see the exact temperature it was for each day. Dont stress yourself out, you got this!

I would remind everyone that your blanket will be 365 or 366,(leap year), rows long before any edgings or month/special occasion rows are added. Your blanket is going to be longer the you suspect. Plus, yarn usually stretches out and "grows". Take all of this into account before you decide the width of the blanket. If you want an estimate of how long your blanket will be do a couple rows in a small swatch. You can then average how tall a row is. Average that by at least 365. If you want more info on that look up how to do a gauge swatch. Ok considering how long your blanket will be consider turning it sideways when done. Then maybe make each row shorter widthwise, because of all of those variables I just mentioned. Most of all, have fun!!!

I use highest temperature or lowest temperature depending on season (and if it was unusually hot or cold that day for the season)
For example, on July 4 of 2015, because it was unusually cold, I used the low temp, and this year, even though it’s winter, it was 65° just a couple days ago!! So I used the 65° instead of the 40° it would have been for the low.

    Great tips! Mine are:
    - Add beads for special days. (Birthdays, weddings, etc.)
    - You don't have to pick the current year, you could pick a special one and look up the temperatures. This also makes it easier to calculate the amount of yarn you'll need. For example, I chose my birth year.
    - Crochet 2 rows for each day, the highest and the lowest temperature. This way both the summer and the winter will be rightfully represented.
    - You don't have to do uniform rows. You could do: mosaic, different stitch each month, a square per month and ensemble into a blanket once all squares are done, etc.
    - Keep a checklist of some sort, because you will lose track and have the desire to pull your hair out trying to find out what you have and haven't done.
    - Tassels are a very good option to have as a border, no ends to sew in! So many options here, braid them, knot every other strand together, etc. Google is a great resource for this one.
    - Swatch first. This will be a big project, so you better test the yarn and hook you're planning to use. Better to find out during swatching that it's not working out.

I am so inspired by your blanket! I am a massive fan of granny squares and, in particular, the star burst granny square. With that in mind, I decided to make the first two rounds the low temperature for my area and the last two the high. I live in an area that has a vast swing in temperature daily, so this just makes sense for me. Admittedly, that will leave me with an odd number of squares, but to solve this problem, I am going to make a border for the last five days being the average temperature.
I like your idea of adding a divide for the months, though I'm not sure this will apply to mine being made from squares, but I'm giving it thought!

I got all my yarn super cheap (I don’t think I got enough and will have to go back) but I also got a gift voucher for Christmas and I spent it on yarn so It only cost me like $8! But I’ll definitely need to go get more 😂

Temperature scarf is an option (just don't do what I did, used worsted weight yarn & 2 rows/day plus rows for heavy rain/snow, or you'll get an 18'/~6m scarf). And I finished my 2019 scarf in 2022 (tatted, not crocheted).

personally i think the most persistent or extreme "Feels Like" temperature might be more accurate some days too in order to represent how the day felt. the day could have a low of 20°F but the windchill and speed could make it feel like 10°F. i think different methods work for different days depending on the range of temperature. 😁

i started one for 2024 and it took me 40 minutes to do the first row, it was technically harder bc i was going into the base chain and not a row of proper stitches but i may not be able to keep track haha

I actually did remember to mark the beginning of new months for mine, I alternated white and black to differentiate months, i'm still working on october but I have the temps written down. I did highs and there are definitely times it felt like I was using the same colors constantly

I'm going big. It's going to be aaaaweesooommmeee. I'm also purchasing my yarn at a local store so the owner is keeping track of what I'm getting. Following you I decided to do the lowest temp for winter and the high for summer. We have a lot of humidity so doing that will make it (feel like temperature blanket)

I think it would be a cool idea if you wanted to do something with the border to make a chunky edge (width not length) of the hottest day in that month for each month, that way you still get to use cherry red ☺️

I also found that before starting a temperature blanket, it's best to do your research. There are several different ways to do a temperature blanket. I also picked a yarn that is quite easily found in the store and I haven't had problems with that. And to this point I probably spent about $50 on it yet. It is going to be way large enough to fit my queen size bed and has been very simple to do.

If I were to suggest something about the price, Michaels is almost always having a 70% off yarn sale and (as far as I'm aware) they always have the brand of yarn you use. That's, at least, what I did for my emotional blanket. It also helped with the fact my mom had a teacher discount as well but I digress. If there isn't a Michaels near you though, I completely understand. But, keep that in mind.

I just started my first blanket. It does take almost 1/2hrs to do a row but I’m ok with that because it can be a snuggle blanket. Also, I am doing the high temperature for the same reason, to be able to use all the colours. Thanks for the idea of separating the months ❤.
