  • Adding Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke to the Big 12 Conference would result in several notable changes and opportunities:
Geographic Expansion: The inclusion of Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke would extend the Big 12's reach into the Northeast and Southeast regions of the United States. This geographic expansion could open up new recruiting territories, fan bases, and media markets for the conference.
Athletic Competitiveness: Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke are known for their competitive athletic programs across various sports, including football and basketball. The addition of these schools would enhance the overall competitiveness of the Big 12, creating exciting matchups and rivalries within the conference.
Conference Realignment: The inclusion of Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke could prompt further conference realignment across college athletics. Other conferences may seek to adjust their membership to remain competitive, leading to changes in affiliations and alliances.
Increased Revenue Opportunities: The addition of Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke could boost the Big 12's revenue streams through expanded television contracts, sponsorship deals, and other revenue-generating initiatives. These schools have large fan bases and national brands, which could attract media interest and corporate partnerships.
Cultural Dynamics: Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke bring unique cultural identities and traditions to the Big 12, enriching the conference's diversity and overall appeal. Their presence would add new dimensions to the conference's athletic culture and fan experience.
Overall, adding Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Duke to the Big 12 would be a significant move that could strengthen the conference's competitive position and elevate its profile in college athletics. However, any decision to expand would require careful consideration of various factors, including geographic alignment, conference culture, and financial implications, by both the universities and conference officials.

You guys need to look at the FBS media viewership numbers for the last 2 years. BC and Wake Forest and absolutely Syracuse and Ga Tech have way better numbers than you are giving them credit for. Nice work Drake and TJ. Yes, right now here in North Carolina the legislature is saying they prefer UNC/NCSU together. I don’t think that line will hold; they aren’t going to hold a school back from making millions more in the P2. The likely end game if the schools split, there will be a subsidy paid out from the school who joins the P2 and they will have to play each other every year. I’m not saying they won’t go together in the end, but I don’t see the P2 being forced to take both; they hold the power.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the SEC take Duke in ALL sports, but giving them a permanent 50% cut in their conference payout. The SEC is full of behemoths, I'm sure they'd be willing to add another Vandy if it meant they got UNC AND was able to pair Kentucky, UNC, and Duke basketball together in the same conference.
Also, paying players $20-$30 million a year shouldn't be hard for ANY P2 schools, they're all going to be making 2-3x that amount in TV revenue anyway.

      a) The SEC can effectively expand and protect its geo-centric brand.
      b) Why add a member while handicapping its ability to compete? From what I've seen, the SEC views expansion as a mutual honor and doesn't play around with partial shares. In contrast, the B1G views expansion as a charity, reinforced with partial shares.

I'm not saying all of this to hate on GT but GT as of right now just can't offer as much as other schools do. If Georgia and GT were more similar in size and had more of a 50/50 share of the views in the Atlanta market then GT probably be put above a school like NC State on the list. Unless you’re a supporter of Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State, The rest of you snobbish Big Ten fans should Just be quiet and be thankful That your conference leadership can’t just cut Your dead weight programs. The reason your commissioner wants a team like Clemson is because they need teams that can compete for playoff spots and outside of the three teams, I mentioned earlier and three of the four former pack 12 teams, the rest of the Big Ten programs have been making most of their profit off of the success of the top three teams in the conference, they have been caring you for years, like a hello Kitty backpack. The power to conferences will be making similar amounts of money. so what you now need in TV contract negotiations with the executives is leverage. and in today’s college football environment., playoff appearances, championships, and ratings are the leverage that will matter most. you want Miami in your conference because a lot of Big Ten fans live there? what has Miami done in the last 30 years? to warrant inclusion? you feel the need to add more deadweight? but you will run down a team that is ranked 14th and all time college football wins. 18 that can make your conference a lot more money with big game matchup and playoff appearances, but since you’re so smart and superior you go start the AAU tournament add tell us how the ratings on that does.

In the B1G, the university presidents have outsized power. Like in the NFL, the commissioner works for the university presidents and not the other way around. That's how Kevin Warren was iced out and Tony Pettiti immediately came in and did his best Goodell impression.
Second, being you clearly don't know about the conference, schools like Wisconsin and Iowa have outsized voting power. Michigan, OSU, Indiana (Bobby Knight), Northwestern, and others were against PSU joining the conference. Wisconsin cut a deal with Northwestern and other schools to earn their vote. PSU only lost 3 votes (Michigan, MSU, and Indiana) on the final ballot. So PSU is going to vote against the schools that voted for us? Donna Shalala was at Wisconsin at the time and then took over at Miami and still resides there. Hint Hint.
Third, the NSF Regional Innovation Engines grant pays out $160 million by itself. The federal government has infinitely more money than TV networks. Northwestern just raised $6 billion in 18 months from their alums in a capital campaign and only $800 million is going towards sports. If you think that B1G universities are paying the bills from athletics, then you have never read their P&L statements. PSU alone invested over $1.2 billion in research in 2023. The athletic department only earned $202 million. Clemson only invested $158 million into research. Sorry, football games isn't what drives the value of our degrees and how us B1G alums get paid after we graduate.

ACC collapse, ND and Stanford move to the BIG (20 teams). SEC stays at 16 teams. FSU better get good with less money....

This makes no sense. The B1G already passed on Stanford when the PAC-12 split. And ND just signed a very lucrative TV deal with NBC.

If the ACC does collapse, I can see Notre Dame dropping its olympic sports in the B1G much like they did with the ACC with a similar contract but remaining independent in football. I do not know what fate awaits Stanford and California if the ACC does collapse, perhaps they rejoin with the Oregon State and Washington State and merge with the Mountain West Conference.

      a) In context, the BIG12 has already collapsed.
      b) The B1G isn't going to allow ND to remain indy. If ND is leaving the ACC, it will have no other realistic choice but the B1G in full.

ESPN has to let FSU go to the open market if they don't want to get sued by the other conferences. ESPN can always put up a better incentive package. But the B1G offers a full share along with the SEC, then FSU is going to the B1G knowing the SEC and ESPN will immediately try to devalue them.
