Thought you’d appreciate that my 3 year old daughter calls you THE Fishing Guy. Thank you for being a part of helping her learn to love fishing! She cant wait to get out on the dock this summer.
guys please be careful, a few years ago a kayak with a young child was found ok, drifting in Smithtown Bay on the Long Island Sound, the Father was never found. Please.
@@duffmeister6480Life Jacket is a must. That’s too bad and very avoidable. For both children and parents. With the auto-inflate option there is no excuse.
If it's a natural creek, on a natural lake, you're right. If that's a man made reservoir, with man made ditches, you won't have a leg to stand on. Those are "private canals".

Lets just eeeeaaasse back into fishing with Matt for another season! Thanks for being there for us old, near used-up codgers, sir! You really keep us going! Nothing like a nice mess of crappies for a great early spring supper - I'd be keeping and cleaning them for that! Keep on keeping on!
I just subscribed. I really like how you don't over-hype catches with over-hyped phrases. Just cool, calm and collective. Just when I wonder what kind of line etc you use, you're already explaining what and why. Love your top water small mouth videos. 👍

Same here. Also from Michigan, and though we've had a few warm days, nothing consistent enough to make fishing really productive. We'll just have to enjoy NDYAK until then.

There's absolutely nothing more relaxing, and exhilarating (as much of an oxymoron as that is), than watching the slooooow sink of a slip bobber thanks to a hungry crappie. Pure bliss!
Absolutely right move trying to get in back bay. People think they own everything. Lake nearby me they put a chain across an inlet to stop folks, and it's like 20 feet wide and 6 feet deep!
Yeah if I can float my kayak through there it’s legal access and I doubt the DNR would be happy about that gate being there. We have low water levels at a lot of places the last few years but a good wet season I’ll be paddling right past that sign.
Goodmorning to you I found your channel in the coments of the video I hope this sub helps you out love to you and yours frome paul in p.a a fellow youtuber
That pumpkinseed gill got my mouth watering. There's nothing like some lightly battered/fried bluegills-my favorite fish. Btw; it was good to fish with a belly on them this time. Thanks for the fishing trip. God bless.
Ah....coffee, crappie and a morning kayak video with you Matt. That pumpkinseed was a brute, reminds of the lake by camp in WI but that new one wasn't as developed around the shore. Catching them about as deep as I was last weekend in the southwest Chicago burbs. Definitely worth another look. Blessings
I wish I had smaller lakes/ponds that were safe to eat fish out of that warm up much quicker then the huge lakes I fish…..the spring crappie bite for me doesn’t go into full gear until 2-3 weeks of 65+ degree weather. Usually not until may. This lake is a gem!
Looks like a nice spot to try some top water in a few more weeks. Nice bass spot. Look forward to see if you revisit this spot then. Stay safe and Fish On!
It’s tough to beat a small jig and plastic combo under a slip bobber for spring crappie! I’ve caught them on a variety of different jigs and plastics. I’ll usually browse the ice fishing section before the stores but that stuff away because a lot of that ice fishing panfish gear is great for spring fishing!
Certainly enjoying your content. You do have a most pleasant speaking voice and I find your videos very relaxing and entertaining! Hello from Northern California‼️ Liked and subscribed.
If that water comes up a bit I’m going back there! Those people putting that gate up is about like me blocking the sidewalk at the corner to prevent people coming on to my block from across the street. If I can paddle into there they’re blocking legal access to public water.
I live in the south I live down here in Georgia but I still I am thrilled to watch fishing that is finished up in the northern states the Northern plains and the fish that y'all catch I love small mouth bass, butt down here in the South it is very very uncommon to come across smallmouth
I love your videos, you got it dude. Went crappie fishing, did real good. 40 the first day & 64 the second day. I like to scale them, then filet them, the skin gets real crispy. From southeast Louisiana, thanks.
Wow, I know that lake...😂 You absolutely have to come back during bass opener and fish largies there. I've caught quite a few big ones there in that same back Bay, other side of that bay and another just right by that no trespass sign where there's down trees. 🙂 Love your videos by the way!
Sometimes your hushed conversational tones remind me of the way Mr. Rogers spoke from his neighborhood. Great information on bass, pike, crappie, muskie and the required equipment. Cheers!!!
I hear Robin's and red wing blackbirds. The other day I seen red wing blackbirds, a killdeer, the cranes are back, and a turtle crossing the road. But I haven't seen or heard robins yet and I'm in southern Michigan near Indiana and Ohio border.
This was from May 8th last year. Still waiting on the ice to clear this spring but it’s getting close. I’ll be hitting the water at least a month earlier this year!
In Bulgaria the main game fish is perch. I have noticed that perch and crappies act alike - they stack together and move in schools. Back here we have noticed that when you find the perch and you catch one of them an you release it the rest of the school goes after the one that darted away after bein released. That's why we put the perch we catch in a floating net until we catch the whole school. We release all of them afterwards. Hope this makes sense and applies to your scenario, although crappies are a lot bigger than perch.
In Alaska we have some closers if the salmon or Steelhead are looking to have a weak return. Last fall they were dead wrong about the silver salmon return. I caught more salmon than trout using crappie jigs one day! Turns out trout and salmon love tube jigs and 2 inch paddle tails!!!
I can't wait for the lakes here in MN to warm up some more so I can start to slam the slabs. I could probably start trying now, but most of the lakes I usually frequent have been lifeless still so hopefully by the end of this month. I heard the river walleye bite is on fire right now though.
I’m hitting one of my little crappie ponds as soon as the ice comes off! I checked a few days ago and there was still ice, but it’s a muddy water little lake so it warms up quick and usually within a day or two of it opening up the crappie are up shallow.
Here in Northeast, Pa. I am actually getting crappies in the shallower water on top water fly poppers. We had a week of above normal temps but next weeks weather will set things back. An early panfish top water bite - March 14, crazy.
you can definitely cross signs if they're not lawful signs. we get that all the time up here. for instance, local hunting clubs put up signs that seem to contradict law.
If the water comes up a foot I’ll be going back I there! In MN the law is if you can float a canoe through its legal access. We’ve had dry summers the past few years, a good wet season could bring the water up enough that I could paddle through there even with the gate up.
Look at Matt being so good at bass fishing, that he accidentally catches them. Great vid man. Also did you give up on using the new kayak you mentioned last year?
I still have the Hobie, it’s just a lot of extra gear I have to lug around and a kayak I have to handle a lot more delicately. If I’m fishing a lake less than a mile across I spend more extra time at the launch getting the Hobie rigged up vs the Tarpon than I’d save by pedaling vs paddling. I planned on stopping at a lake I had to cart in but there were a few people there already. If I have to bring the cart I don’t have room for the pedal drive. Most of the time keeping it simple is my best route.
Slip bobber fishing is not a method we use here in the UK but i guess it would work for our perch. I guess just a slow retrieve with a few lifts in? Tight lines.

I would definitely take a few good photos of that blocked waterway and the "NO TRESPASSING" sign and go to the DNR with it. That's 🐂 💩...

This time of year they should be up shallow along pencil reeds. Later in the year if the water is clear enough you can visually find a deep weed edge I've caught many crappie there while bass fishing. The cabbage weeds that come out to about 12ft on a lot of lakes here is where I'd find them.
