    if anyone is thinking of doing this conversion kit ?..do not think long and hard ..do it !!. i just installed this very same kit on my 18 ft camper, and it worked out just great. i already bent a stabilizer jack on one corner ( replacing those as well ), and i got plenty of lift. i was very lucky i did not rip the septic line off ?..now i will not have any issues what so ever. this kit also lets me bring my WDH torsion bars up higher, they were really close to the ground. my camper came with 14 inch tires ( these will get replaced with larger tires later ), and this alone had my camper very low to the ground to start with. this dexter conversion kit solved all my problems..buy it , you will not regret it !.

    I bought this exact same kit and I'm installing now. I had to take a break and look this up because as I took everything apart, I thought "why cant I just flip the axle and use the factory perch and hardware?" Thanks for answering my question in the first 2 min of your video. I was unaware of the bow in the axle.

      @@TheWoodHaven I have just had some neat surprises before. I had one trailer that every October at the begging of our camping season I had to impact the U-bolt nuts. They always came loose every year not matter what I did. LoL..

    My trailer axle is 2 3/8" but rhe leafs are 2inch wide would this kit work?

  • @stefeniedavidmusic
    @stefeniedavidmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Now DexterI recommends welding the brackets on, but i see you haven't. I have the same kit. My problem is getting the axil over to a welding shop to get them welded. I only have a Wrangler JK 2 door. I suppose i could mount them on the trailer then tow it the welding shop. From your video it looks like the welder could still get to the brackets to weld them I m gong to be driving the Alaska hwy as soon as this bloody lockdown is over, if it ever is, so a little extra strength on that rough road wouldn't hurt

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it was highly recommended to weld it when I installed mine too. I'm definitely going to weld them before taking this on a long trip. Good luck on that Alaska trip. That sounds like a blast.

  • @job5599
    @job5599 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why did you change out the trailers?

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Joann, when my hubs and leaf springs got destroyed, I had it towed to a repair shop and they quoted me over $2,000 to repair it. I didn't want to throw good money after bad so I bought a new trailer for a third that price. and the new trailer had a wider wheelbase and handled much better.

  • @londanner5251
    @londanner5251 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    im no spring expert but couldn't you add another spring 1 it will stiffen up the axle and fender travel... and the 1000 + trailer, wouldn't bounce as much.... what do I win........

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure you could do that. Not sure which method is better or cheaper to be honest. Probably both good methods.
      I know I haven't had any issues with mine yet.

  • @georgeconlin7927
    @georgeconlin7927 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you think it compromises the integrity of the spring by doing this?
    I’m actually doing this right now with my single axle travel trailer. Already busted sewer pipes once. Trying to get more ground clearance.
    Good vid 👍🏽 Thanks

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. IMO, it enhances the integrity by supporting the springs from the bottom. Same amount of weight in both cases.

  • @johnnybikesalot

    I've been thinking about doing this to my landscape style utility trailer. It's a 5x8 with a 3500lb axle. It's pretty easy to scrape on the ground now when hills are involved. Is there any downside to this mod? Will it change the handling of the trailer? Any other attributes I'm forgetting? I know this will make the ramp a bit steeper, and the jack won't be tall enough, although I need a new jack anyway so I'm not really worried about that.

    • @TheWoodHaven
      @TheWoodHaven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't noticed any difference in handling. It raises the trailer about 3 inches, so really just the ramp and jack are affected. Of course, YMMV.
