  • Organizers say more than 1.4 million people have taken part in demostrations against the far right across Germany over the weekend. In Munich, the rally had to be cut short because of overcrowding. The protests were announced at more than 100 locations nationwide. In Berlin, thousands of people demonstrated outside the parliament. The outrage follows reports that members of the Alternative for Germany party had a meeting with far-right extremists to discuss plans for mass deportation of migrants and citizens with foreign roots.

Often the "silent majority" doesn't turn up on the streets so it's good to see this change. It is apparent in many countries in Europe that the far right is doing well in online echo chambers but doesn't do well on thr streets, their messaging doesn't reaonate with most sand people

If those who consider themselves to be “The People” (who predominantly come from the East) decide for a fascist party that wants to overthrow the system, that is democratic. If the state and the vast majority of society defend themselves against it (which is their... damn duty) then that's undemocratic. 80% of Germans don't vote for the AfD. we won't back down anymore. I attended the rally in Hamburg on Friday and it was unlike anything I've ever seen before. babies up to 80-, 90-year-olds gathered and everyone was the kindest to each other they could be. it was like a utopian future shining upon my hometown - that's how our society should look like. here's a representative example; once, a couple of teenagers, maybe 17-18 years old, stood beside me. they hit a cigarette. then I heard one of them say "hey guys, let's take it a couple of meters away. there are kids around, it'd be uncool of us". and then they moved away.
I won't ever forget these moments during the rally. people crying over seeing the crowded train stations on our way downtown, realising how many of us democratic protesters were there. no negativity, just peace. kindness. kinship. people of all skin colours. queer people. conservatives among leftists. that's worth fighting for. that's the society I will take a stand for. today, tomorrow. always.

Seeing all the signs saying "Never again is now" really brought tears to my eyes, even though there is so much dark in the world and so much hate and distrust is spreading we are still standing strong for humanity and democracy 🖤❤💛

      but why?
I mean: among all democracies across the world - is there a clearer example of a candidate or party being a danger to democracy? and being incapable of politics as a whole? It is so obvious. Americans got proof enough in the past. There was one presidency yet. There are trials, there was the storming of Congress. There are quotes and actions. On the one hand I am eager to say: your own fault if you are not willing to see the obvious. On the other hand we all depend on that. It is no mere US-American election, but influences all of the free world. So just get up and act accordingly to your responsibility, please. It is a citizen's duty! In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany.
The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed.
People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.

    • @wolfgangwalk337

Yeah, that's not behind the German extreme right. The young are relatively immune against them and overwhelminly oppose right-wing policies. It's mostly the middle aged generation that fears for its wealth due to climate change and a lack of social security due to neoliberal economic policies, both leading to denial and a yearning for simpler times (though most of them surely wouldn't agree with forced deportation of German citizens because they have a foreign sounding last name).
And then there is the German indifference against the muddling of fascist and conservative policies by leaders of the CDU that for a long time helped the fascists - and might end now. At least that's what I hope for. I'm not a conservative, but I will have the back of every conservative standing up against the AfD fascists. We need to clarify this distinction!

The division of the population is bizarre. One sector demonstrates against another and expects them to change the opinion on this topic which has been fermenting since about 1978 when I was still there.
Germany is not democratic or the Kohl Regime would not have 'stolen' my family's land (Prenzlauer Promenade 191, Berlin) and/or subsequent governments would have done something about that breach of the constitution.
When you have to have deep pockets for court cases to reverse a breach of the constitution, that is not democracy. Now one neighbour is demonstrating against another neighbour, good luck.

Positions like the ones the AfD are traditionally defined as far-right, the AfD probably would label themselves thus. The farmers, though few, were appeased almost immediately and their demands were met by politics, even though the climate-friendly policies they protested against would have benefitted society overall and was one important factor in combatting climate change that's now off the table. Even though that's beside the point because this video is about the anti-AfD, pro democracy protest.
