I spent an hour with my 661 this afternoon, it’s my favorite saw. Bucking up a 28 to 36 inch Doug Fir and ripping the rounds in 1/2 and 1/4’s. I can set the depth gauges at 0.050 and have the bar buried making chips.
The 661 is a beast for sure, I love mine. I have a 462 also and just bought a 400c. That 400 is a wicked saw, it's a little lighter than the 462 but it feels better in my hands.
If planning to do milling, there is a small pin on bottom to push in for more oil. Some TH-cam show close up. Also the stock air filter lets fines get through. It doesn't seal well enough. MaxFlow air filter is necessary. Redbull661 MaxFlow. Really shows difference. Your saw will thank you.
my 661 had the captured nuts but there were flanges on the nuts very poor grip for the wrench got the older cover does yours have the flange type nuts?
It does, they are not great compared to the flangeless ones, but we're managing so far. Where did you get your older cover from, are the flanges only on the newer models?
Not sure my 462,500 and 261 all have the normal nuts the 661 just kept slipping very poor design for such an expensive saw very little grip on the nut it drove me crazy as once they get oily it is difficult to loosen or tighten them. i found an old 660 cover that works very old and battered i tried to order a new one but it said it was upgraded so have to get the new one.@@TheRealSarahCatherine
Great Job Sarah! I have a potential large job coming up with 100' pine trees with 27" - 30" bases and plan on moving up to either a 661 or 500i from my Echo 620P. Have you tried the 500i yet? If so, thoughts on differences and which one to go with?
Once you get a couple of tanks run through it it'll take off. Be careful with it. Take care and have a blessed and safe day and I'll see you on your next video
The 660 & 661 are aren’t really built for speed cutting. They’re more like battering rams. Built for torque, for plugging through big stems and not an all day saw, unless you’re built lkk I’lle Popeye. But as you say, great for milling. Whereas the 462 is a production saw for big stems.
Man how i wish to get my hands on a chainsaw like yours. But my finances are very weak, so i was force to settle myself with a Husqvarna 460 rancher. If i won't be able to get the Stihl ms 661 i will settle myself with the holzforma g 660, a Stihl ms 660 built under license in China. In the end keep up the good work.Greetings from Romania!
Great job Sarah, I’m sending this to my daughter to show her that she can do it too. You are an inspiration

That's awesome! Keep having fun and stay safe out there 👍

Awesome, thanks for the info!
The pin to push is separate from the oiler adjusting screw
New saws increase in power as they brake in. In takes a couple of tank fulls until you feel the real power.
That 661 will become your new best friend

Hello from Ireland, you handled that big heavy saw like a champ.
Congrats Sarah! I'm on the Ontario side and ironically we just got a 661 as well. (As well for milling.) Look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Awesome! Thank you!

You got it girl.
Awesome video Sarah I am Kiwi Logger from NZ i think you did aweome
Thank you so much! 🙂
Good job, Sarah! You handled it like a boss 👍🏼
Thank you!! 😁
You did really well- It takes some time to get used to a saw. Saws do require some break in time.
Thanks! We'll make sure to break it in properly before we start milling with it 👍
Reckon it would have cut a bit faster if you really sunk it in with the dogs. Cool video though! Great to see someone of smaller stature holding it.

I'm surprised you aren't going with wrap handles, make the saws a real tool, even have them on my pruning saw.

Great video, but I spit my coffee out when you said "I lost my nuts in the snow" BaHaHaHa!!!
Bonjour,
Vidéo très sympa
Bon courage
You need to use the dogs on the saw to make it work, the guy knows how to make it work, you were not working it much,
Stand up and buck and learn yer tip and don't dig in your dawgs
That saw don't run good
I know. It doesn’t run….it flies
