Your family would be the first with “common” sense then if they’re watching you grow. I was born in 1979. My first memories of Michael Jordan as a basketball player began in the early 1990s not long after he won his last NBA title before retiring and coming to the NBA (I remember watching the NBA finals when the BULLS won against the SUNS after John Paxton hit the game winning shot). I remember him in the Magic Johnson AS game. The Jordan I saw was from 1990-1998. I didn't watch basketball as a kid in the 1980s and didn't start playing or becoming interested in basketball until I was in the 6th grade in 1990 and 1991. I literally remember the two three peat MJ in his prime. I didn't watch Bird and Magic in the 1980s because I was a kid who didn't know anything about basketball yet. So, my perspective on how good Bird Magic and Bird were as players was informed by people older than me.
In contrast, I saw the ENTIRE basketball careers of Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Seeing someone in real time is different than watching them on archival footage or hearing how great they were as players.
In real time, Michael Jordan is the best player I saw in that 8-year span. The man one 6 NBA titles in those 8 years. That's the best run I've ever seen of an individual player.
And I try to forget the Wizard Mike years. He was still 40 though averaging 20 as a player/GM because I remember when he scored 40 AT 40 years old in one game. It was all jumpers and fade-away shots.
My top three players from what I've seen my lifetime are MJ, Lebron, and Kobe. Honorable mention to Hakeem the Dream (I'm from Houston). I still remember when he embarrassed Shaq and David Robinson in the playoffs.
Sidenote: I just hate how Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gets dropped out these conversations.

Manu invented the euro step back in that era. Some could pull the triple back step back then but things were officiated differently and might have been called a travel lol 😂. I think Kg meant they wouldn’t be as effective in his era by how things were officiated and how physical it was. People often look for fouls today and they wouldn’t get them which would cause them to be frustrated. I think most players could adapt to each era tho.

Michael Jordan is the only player in NBA history who's titles are won by himself. None, and I do mean, none of the other Bulls players get credit for those 6 titles. You would think Jordan was the only player on the court during that time. Championships are team accomplishments, not individuals, until you get to Jordan.

But those of us who actually saw Jordan will question that era of basketball as less talented, less competitive and not as many teams to go through. But that generation will look at us who believe Jordan is the G.O.A.T and laugh at us and think we're fools. At this point the debate is so tired and lame, just appreciate the greatness of both because along with Magic these are the three best guys I've ever watched play (and there are too many greats to mention)and when you think NBA Jordan, LBJ and Magic are the three that really impacted and transcended the game as had never been seen before.

The one thing that I believe ppl dont mention enough about why Kareems goat legacy was given away was because he converted, and the NBA along with the media didnt like that. So they was trying to find reasons to not talk about him as much. When Magic came they were saying hes better than Kareem while Kareem was clearly the GOAT at that time.

Kareem didn't help himself either. He hated the media and still do to this day.
But to your point, it just shows the media Has bias towards players. Who ever player is marketable (shaq, LeBron, Curry, Jordan, magic ) those are going to be the guys they will push.
Kyrie? Kobe (well until his case) nah, can't market them. Tim Duncan? Too boring. Durant? Another guy who hates the media and has the personality of a wall
