But it's usually very different. The complexity of life often prevents us from taking an immediate look at things and their causes. It is only much later, when you look back, that you discover the actual causes of the problems you had. Not so long ago, I consciously looked back on my life and asked myself whether I really had options to react differently in the past. And I realised that, on closer inspection, these options were basically non-existent. This has freed me from a lot of self-reproach. That's why one shouldn't be too self-critical.
