- In this video I react to a few clips of the great Natalia Osipova and provide commentary based on my personal opinion. I have loved Natalia Osipova and her individuality for a long time and sincerely appreciate all that she has given to the art form.
Apologies in advance for my limited and repetitive vocabulary... most of this was done off the cusp as true reactions and I realized during the editing process how frequently I used some words!

Beautiful video. I believe Natasha was trained in rhythmic gymnastics first before she delved into ballet which accounts for her amazing flexibility. I love her versatility too, and her approach to her roles is very inspirational. But what I truly love is how FUN she makes her dancing look. She's telling us - "look! see what I can do! How fun it is to just jump!!" And her musicality is out of this world. She parses the music with originality and intention... She's just the best. A spirit of dance.
Yes, yes! After making this video I did end up seeing somewhere that she trained in rhythmic gymnastics, which explains SO much! She truly is magnificent!
She is phenomenal and even after she retires and then passes on we will still be talking about her Natalia is one the greats and has already made her mark in the ballet world and this art form as a whole ughh she’s so stunning 💝
She is absolutely amazing. Her 'Medusa' was incredible. I watched the whole performance and she was mesmerising. I think I hardly blinked! ❤
Осипова,, просто уникальная балерина ....и великолепная актирса.Талат не подлежит разберательству ,,,все в ней гармонично и не замечаешь не идеальные пропорции тела ...видишь только уникальность этой балерины.
Having this kind of unique personality is definitively the ultimate thing for a ballerina, it is beyond technique ! she is fearless, very self confident, like Sylvie Guillem for example, those kind of artists, you recognize immediately ! She is also very curious artistically and leaving the classic Russian world, and going to Royal Ballet, has brought a more modern perspective to her art.
I think she started by gymnastics as a child, and she may have learned there how to jump very high. She has a physical resistance similar to a high level athlete. It was the same for Sylvie Guillem, she started with gymnastics, I notice that ex gymnast are the best ballerinas, at least two of them 🙂

When I think of Natasha the first word that comes to mind, apart from her blazing talent, is fearlessness. She takes chances, obviously loves performing and takes pleasure in living on the edge. That excitement is translated to the audience.
Yes! Fearlessness is a perfect word to describe her!
Natalia Is another incredible dancer of this time in the ballet world as someone who’s apart of gen-z I’m glad that TH-cam exist so I can see her incredible talent she is phenomenal she can dance with anyone but I love her partnership with David Hallberg, SO ICONIC and she plays characters so well too👑
Hallberg is a great loss to the stage. His suppleness was sooo beautiful. I’m sorry he had to retire early. Injuries sidelined him for too long. He and Osipova were magic.
I think she had an incredible connection with Acosta...she was so earnest and pure in energy.
Acosta himself is just brilliant. He is wonderful with so many ballerinas! I also love the energy they share together.

I love this analysis. I would honestly say her turns kind of point to her starting later than other dancers IMO. She liked gymnastics and Acro a lot as well, she gives me Acro turn vibes.
Almost like she rushed learning them and her technique is so strong many didn’t see this as an issue. Compare her turns to other girls at BB and the ages they started. I know her mother was kind of crazy about ballet so maybe she was like other Russian mothers (think Zakharovas mom mentioning how she made sure she grew a certain way since she was blessed with the feet)
Yes! You add such a wonderful addition. I had listened to an interview of her talking about her early days with acro and gymnastics and considered that those beginnings added to her sense of fearlessness, but I had not considered the turning aspect. This is such an insightful perspective! Thank you for sharing

I don't have a dance background. I watch ballet but not knowing the technical details makes it hard to really understand and appreciate the dancer. These videos help to solve the mystery for me. I hope you keep uploading, especially Sylvie Guillem and Polina Semionova.

Thankyou for your insightful comments…..I totally agree about the shoes..and for me they detract from her otherwise wonderful dancing………the feet in a dancer finish off the line of the leg and I can only concentrat3 on the feet in shoes that look like they have been taken from a garbage can
I do think the aesthetic of her shoes can be a bit distracting as well... but I have a feeling that for her, their functionality are more important than how they look. I'm sure that the way she preps and maintains her shoes probably cater to her in some individual way :)
I have noticed that also a long time ago ! her shoes always look strange and broken but maybe she has feet problems (as many ballerinas like Alina Cojocaru are suffering from feet issues like severe Hallux Valgus, as doing "pointes" is not a natural posture) and she needs to wear "special" pointes shoes specially on her left foot, I am sure that is not a $$$ problem !
As I am French I don't always comprehend everything in the video (English spoken) and I didn't get what is said about her turns and the working leg, if someone could explain it to me ? It would have been nice to see other ballerinas to have a counter-example and see the differences ....

One think I don't understand is... why when you (all TH-camrs who make reactions on her dancing) only take videos from royal ballet or her latest performances ...We all know she was muuuch better when she was at Bolshoi . Why don't you react on her early Kitri with Vasiliev where she burned the stage with presence , fast turns and jumps ? It's clear that any ballerina has her best moments and not her best in her latest years... Just asking 😁
I very much appreciate your comment and perspective. However, I do believe I understand. I specifically chose more content from Royal Ballet because I personally like her dancing more once she moved to ROH. She was of course lovely at the Bolshoi and technically magnificent, but she was also younger and had less experience as a dancer and human being. I believe that in her more recent years at ROH, she has blossomed into a mature and evocative performer. Her technique may not be the same as when she was a spritely 18 year old, but her dancing has more depth/soul. At least that's what how I feel when I watch her more recent work. Either way, I appreciate your comment and I understand your perspective. Maybe one day I will create another commentary video but use her earlier work from the Bolshoi. Or perhaps do a compare/contrast? Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me
@@erinpatterson8482 thank you for pointing that out.i admit i have only just come across your channel but i can't help but notice some of the remarks from the Russian comments they are realy derogatory about the English companies and its does make me so annoyed. Its also quite sad that they cannot appreciate other dancers except there own.there are some wonderfull dancers from all part of the world who work very hard as well. Im 76 now and admit ive never had lessons but i love Ballet with a passion .my older sister went to lessons but my parents couldent afford to send us both but i used yo go and watch my feet tapping away to the piano. And i would get home and try to do the steps.i was 6 years old.when i was 14 my sister took me to see Margo Fontain in Swan Lake.i was in awe.sorry to go on but i just wanted to explain.the ramblings of a old woman i suppose.
@@kathleenlynch5763 true, some Russian people would love to own completely the classical ballet world as if they invented it ! but as a French (mean) girl I have to say that ballet was created in France and Italy, Marius Petipa was from Marseille, and nowadays ballet has blossomed all around the world with great companies in the US, Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, Japan, etc.... The Russian school (Vaganova for exemple) is a very high standard one but they sometimes lack curiosity and modern evolution. At the beginning of the 20th century, Russian choreographers, musicians and dancers had to come in Europe, France and also USA, to be able to create a modern art, like Stravinsky, Nijinsky or Balanchine .... I am sad that all the incredible Russian ballerinas and dancers are not able to travel the world now because of the war and political issues, like Elizaveta Kokoreva, Eva Sergeeinkova, Renata Shakirova, Leonora Sevenard, etc...
Really enjoyed this. Could you explain more what it is about her turns that you're not that keen on? I've seen the lack or rolling-through in many other dancers. Whose turns do you love?
Yes, it's true that other dancers also lack rolling through while turning, so this is a good question. Honestly, it's the rush of the plié that I believe bothers me. There is something about the sharpness when coming down that makes her fouetté turns appear less...smooth? If that makes sense?
@@erinpatterson8482 I am glad to see this explanation because I didn't get it as my English is not fluent. It would have been interesting to see another ballerina doing the turns differently to have a counter example in the video, sometimes what seems a detail is very important in the global perception of a dancer ! thanks

This is a completely fair point that you have made and I appreciate your comment. From my world view, I believe that all art is subjective and can be analyzed by anyone. As I say in this video, it is all my opinion and I have the utmost respect for Natalia Osipova and all Russian ballerinas. I have great respect for ballerinas trained in Russia and for the standard of technique that Russia leads with. I hope this video was not offensive in any way.
As for my own personal qualifications, I trained in ballet from a young age, received a BFA in ballet, and am currently a working professional. At the moment, I do focus on contemporary ballet, so perhaps I am not at the standard to analyze classical work. I am very aware that all of the dancers I create videos about are WAY more talented and trained than I will ever be and all of my perspectives are grounded in a place of deep admiration for their skills. I make these videos solely because I LOVE the ballet art form and the incredible artists I cover.

Лучшие ролики, приведенные здесь, отсняты вовремя работы Осиповой в России. Уехав в Лондон, она многое растеряла.
Потому что в Лондрне можно не стараться, но зарплата - отличная а в России абы как не прокатит даже за невысокий гонорар.

@@kathleenlynch5763 In Russia, there are so many incredible ballerinas, that they are replaced by a new generation when they hit 25 .. and also not being able to dance around the world because of the political issues is a real problem !
The best Russian dancers and artists always had to leave their country because they couldn't evolve because of politics and artistic conservatism, from Nijinsky, Noureev, Baryshnikov, Balanchine, Olga Smirnova, etc..... Classical ballet had been introduced in Russia from Western Europe, and as all art it has to change and evolve !

I love Natalia and am inspired by her. I definitely do not envy her and am well aware I could never do what she does. Dance is a subjective art form and I am simply giving my opinion of her dancing. She is one of my favorite ballerinas of all time
I "liked" the video so I could comment. I do not like her loose hipped overextended style. This, I am told, is the new fashion in Russia. They used to send these body types away. She looks like a circus act, not a ballerina in those jumps. Not liking it.
This is a fair comment. I believe this is often the standard for Russia. One reason I personally appreciate her is because she isn't "just" the hyper-extension/open hips. Some dancers with this body-type often just appear the same to me. However, she seems to really go past just her body moving with her spirit in her dancing! To me, she's not just relying on her "whacked out" facility, but can actually really move and evoke as well. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I completely hear where you're coming from and respect your opinion fully!
