The Master is Moriarty to The Doctor’s Sherlock
It's even more complicated than that. They're like soulmates that love and hate each other. That last season should have made that clear. The Master finally got past who he/she was, accepted trying to be good, and ended up sabotaging him/herself, even then. The Master is The Doctor's greatest friend and most dangerous enemy.
Eric putting it all together makes me so happy.

The Master is the Doctor's oldest friend and greatest enemy. He has encountered every incarnation since the Third Doctor, and was even the main antagonist in the 1996 movie. He's probably the Doctor's only intellectual equal in the universe at this point.
Yeah, forgot he never met Eccleston. And I really don't think there is anyone that can match the Doctor intellectually (apart from the Master). The combination of natural intelligence, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and millennia of experience is just unmatched.
Doesn't initiative count as intelligence though? There are lots of things that go into making a person truly intelligent. The Doctor has managed to use his mind to defeat all of his enemies (well, most of the time). There are even theories (in-universe) that the third founder of Time-Lord society, the Other, alongside Rassilon and Omega, was actually the Doctor from the future (possibly his last incarnation), or the Doctor is the "reincarnation" of the Other.

DextroDNA: Every incarnation (on screen) except for Eccleston (at this point in the show). He met 1 and 2 in The Five Doctors and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in their respective eras. THE biggest recurring villain, along with the daleks and the cybermen.

Yes. He runs away from the Time War, turns himself into a child while using the Chameleon Arch and sends his TARDIS back to Gallifrey.

Yeah I agree it would be quite hard to work it out before you find out, but that doesn't detract from it - I think it works well. I know RTD didn't always intend for The Face of Boe to be Jack but there is a reason he 'chucked it into the script'. Jack can't die, it didn't seem too illogical a plot point, living for a million years probably would turn you into a massive face.
Headless Monks... Just saying. I think it is still interesting. Don't try too hard to find logic in Dr Who :P

Alex Hodgkinson: Jack has had children. If he evolves into a massive head, then it makes sense for his children to be massive heads as well. But they aren't immortal, so eventually they all die, leaving only Jack (the original member of the new species that he evolved into). Being the last of his kind could easily just mean that all of his children and grandchildren, etc. have died.

idisagree since logically the Face of Boe knew that the master was alive and there was only a few people that saw the master come back and only one of them could have lived as long as the Face of Boe.

Zak Rosenfeld: LOVE The War Master box set. Jacobi NEEDED to come back, so I'm glad we got some full stories with him.
Some Random Guy And i really hope we get even more of him, they intentionally left gaps between the stories in the boxset so they could do more with him :). I know he's set to appear in "Gallifrey: Time War" and the next Kate Stewart UNIT boxset, but i hope we get a second War Master set

That was Derek Jacobi, a pretty famous actor...or so I thought. Anthony Ainley (the Master you saw in The Five Doctors) lost his battle with cancer back in 2004.
Man, this and the Bad Wolf thing reminds me of how much better RTD was with series arcs than Moffat was.

There *is* actually an in-universe explanation for Gwen looking the same as Gwyneth, which basically boils down to "her traits were passed down through her bloodline and amplified by the presence of the Time Vortex", or something like that.

What makes the running scene funnier is that, according to the Doctor Who Confidential episode for this episode, John Barrowman and David Tennant were actively trying to out run one another, while poor Freema *was just trying to keep up with either of them!*
Well Eric, since Bad Wolf's power on Jack seem to also fix whatever killed him I think that if he died of starvation he would gain a little bit of energy upon revival.
It's not like if he dies of a gunshot he has to come back, then immediately die again from the destroyed organs and bloodloss and keeps repeating it until it happens enough times for the wound to close.
he dies then is forced back to life. I dont think he could physically die from hunger though. Otherwise the radiation should of vaporised him instantly then he would reform and evaporate again.
"Children of Earth" shows just how FAR his regenerative properties can go, when pushed...
They haven’t met Captain “Spike” on Torchwood yet. I think that’s a bit worse than just dying from starvation a few times.

What a fantastic episode! Derek Jacobi is fantastic as YANA but that turn into The Master was one of the best TV moments in history! Phenomenal all round! This makes me kinda think that maybe series 3 isn't as bad as people say it is, since we have some of the best episodes of the show so far at this point in series 3! EDITRON GAMING CHANNEL Who says series 3 is bad? Like every series it has it's fair share of detractors but overall it's one of the more praised series of Doctor Who from what I've seen. I know it's in my top 3 Doctor Who series along with series 4 and 5.

A lot of people don't feel like this series holds up as well as the others. Episodes 4-7 ain't good but there are a lot of amazing episodes in series 3 so I think I'd put it up there personally.
It's also confirmed that Tosh in Torchwood was the doctor that appeared in the Aliens of London episode
which is funny enough explain in a later torchwood episode, explains how she could be a doctor there and not in torchwood.

The Master hasn't actually aged, that segment with being found on a beach was actually a part of his fabricated background.
No. He was a child. The War Master audio box set explains how the Derek Jacobi incarnation fled the Time War, used the Chameleon Arch to turn himself into a human child, and sent his TARDIS back to Gallifrey. The story was written in conjunction with RTD who said the War Master had been found as a child.
Oh, alright. I haven't listened to them yet, but from him appearing on the cover as his Professor Yana incarnation, I assumed his chameleon arch implanted those memories as part of his background. My mistake.

I liked the Savage Master. It was a way to flesh out the character. He doesn't always have to be what he was. Characters grow. They learn. Missy is proof of that.

The original Master was played by Roger Delgado. Jon Pertwee called him the bravest mane he'd ever known. He died stupidly: when on holiday he'd got a taxi back to his hotel, the driver was drunk and took the car off a cliff. What a waste.
This reaction was great! I love this episode. The hype and Torchwood crossing over with the main show. The build up to the Master revelation is brilliant! :D

Welcome to the Party!. The Master is MY favorite villian. He has been around since Doctor #3. Non-spoiler tidbit to give you an idea how studly he is. Normally Time Lords can have 13 lives and then die forever. When he first showed up he was already on his last life and has lied, killed, cheated and bargained time and again to get new regenerations. That's why he was "nice" to the 5 Doctors, to get a whole new set of regenerations from the Time Lords. And oh yea, #votesaxon
There are many actors who have appeared on Who or its spinoffs in more than one character. Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, also played John Frobisher on Torchwood, and a Roman in an upcoming episode; that same upcoming Roman episode also features Karen Gillan, who the following season became a companion; which also happened with Frema, who plays Martha, who, before becoming a companion in series three, first appeared in the finale of series two as a different character. It’s a semi-frequent occurrence where they will cast an actor with one intention and then decide to bring them back for another.
With regards to the Doctor meeting the Face of Boe in his personal future. Remember what the Face of Boe says in season 2. "We shall meet again, Doctor, but for the third time, the last time." The Face of Boe only ever met the Doctor three time in his life, on Platform One, in the Hospital on New Earth, and in the underground passages of New New York, where he dies.

For those of you who'd like some backstory on The Master, spoilers below.
Believe it or not, he and The Doctor used to be best friends. They grew up together in the Gallifreyen countryside and even attended school together. They had a third friend called The Rani, together making a sort of science fiction pseudo Harry/Ron/Hermione thing. Unfortunately The Master's moral compass and sanity eroded over time leading to the man we see today, and as for The Rani? She was a specialist in biology and loved experimenting...whether the participant was willing or not, if you catch my drift. She appeared sometimes in OldWho as an antagonist, although I don't think it ever said what happened to her during the Time War.
Michelle Gomez should have played The Rani not the Master.
Oh my god I agree so hard. I couldn't stand Missy because she *spoilers* completely fucked The Masters redemption arc *spoilers*. It would have worked so much better if she was The Rani but apparently Moffat didn't want to "bring in a character the newer audience would have no connection to".

Pretty much the entire Moffat run felt more like a fanfic than an actual TV show.
Don't get me started on Riversong. I loved her in the Library episode but what they did with her completely destroyed any mystery she could have had. I would have much preferred it just turned out she was one of his future companions or something.

The first Master story was 'The Terror of the Autons' from the early seventies-a Third Doctor/Jon Pertwee story, worth a watch though it's the sequal to his first, regeneration story, 'Spearhead from Space'.

I've been watching these videos and just... you can REALLY tell that Eric is into Doctor Who. Shane and Aaron have seen it before, so they don't react as much, but do contribute to conversation. And then Shane doesn't really react or say much at all. But then Eric is always exclaiming stuff and yelling and getting excited.
Maybe this is how they always are, and I just haven't seen enough of their stuff to realise...

it was me who told yous about toshiko being in doctor who and thanks for reading my comment :) and in torchwood they messed up the tardis did land in torchwood building cause one min jack was their and the next he was gone, and he did not use the front door cause owen and the rest of them came in the front door, and did not see jack, i just watched ep 1 of season 2 ep 1 of torchwood, yous are just one ep behind me :) and yous guys are awesome thank you for doing this :)
Story Time! I was introduced to Classis Who almost immediately after I became a new Who fan when I was a kid and that included a couple of stories with the Master so when I watched this I remember running around the living room cheering while my dad, whose been a fan since the 1st Doctor, was just stunned.
I've been waiting for this one, probably my favourite episode of the entire show

Actor Derek Jacobi has since returned to the role he played in this episode in the Doctor Who audio adventures, therefore the "Found with the fob watch as a child" is a false memory.

_"The Professor"_ was what Ace called the 7th Doctor. Ace was a rebellious teen and companion to the 7th Doctor, played by Silvester McCoy. You may know him as the wizard Radagast The Brown in The Hobbit. The 7th was the last of the original Who, when it was cancelled in 1989. He appeared briefly in the 1996 movie as well. And, his digital likeness was used in an episode of the 11th Doctor -- long story. ;-]

Still the best ever episodes of Doctor Who for me, way they pre shadowed YANA in the series was great!
Doctor Who as a family show wasn't allowed to explicitly cross over with Torchwood given its adult content, but was able to crossover with the Sarah Jane Adventures as that was more of a kids show.

What I meant was the Doctor (although mentioned) couldn't appear in Torchwood as that would probably have the little uns want to watch it. He's mentioned more than once, but doesn't appear (or does he? (spoilers))

I know you guys said you won’t be doing all mini episodes but can I recommend the one that comes at the end of this series. The episode is called “time crash” and it comes between “last of the time lords” and “voyage of the damned”. I think it would be especially good for you guys given the episodes you have watched. As with the last mini episode you watched it was released for children in need which is an annual telethon here in the uk.

It was a nice touch putting Jack on top of the Tardis. You can picture at 1:21 the Tardis is thinking "get it off get it off get it off!!" and running to the end of the universe like she's on fire. The guy is literally a living time-paradox.
