  • Kirby Allison, the founder of the Hanger Project, takes you on a quick tour of his closet. A gentleman’s closet/wardrobe is one of the first and last places he will see in a day. For that reason, it is important to keep that space clean, organized, and relaxing. In this video, Kirby shows some of the things he has done to his home’s closet in order to meet those criteria.

As a guy who lives in a city, your definition of "small" for a closet is intriguing to me. Any closet that you can actually go into is *massive* for where I live.

this is a really large closet for the area. I have lived in several apartments, town homes, and houses throughout Texas and have never had a closet this big. But man, i already thinking about how to redesign my house to build something like this

I completely concur with your statement. I live in NYC and small is relative, very relative in this case.

Thank you for welcoming into your home and showing us your closet. I really like this video since it gives the viewer a new perspective on how to organize our wardrobe without spending a fortune. All it takes are a few dollars and a lot of thinking and space utilization planning, as you so well demonstrate. Watching your videos is not only very informative, practical, and educational but a pleasant experience and a real joy.

Thinking and planning the most important component. Same guy could have installed a closet that was worse than the original. I took notes for several weeks thinking about how I interacted with my closet to ultimately determine this design. I even measured to ensure that I could double-stack shoe boxes on the top shelf.

You are a huge inspiration of what I strive to be as a up coming gentleman. Slowly my closet is changing to more dressy clothing. After years I finally found my true style and it's more formal and business casual. Due to the fact that I'm losing weight it just makes me more excited because clothing is looking more sleek on me. Keep up the great work Mr.Allison!!!

Oh man this is amazing! We just went from a super tiny condo to an old charming home built in 1912! So much character and charm and space for me to setup an office and record videos and write easier! There are a small walk-in and linen size closet in our room currently, but there is enough room from previous owners closing in the balcony to make huge on-suite bathroom that I think my wife will get the walk-in and I'll get the linen closet that I may fit just for shoes it trousers and then build a larger walk-in for the rest!
    Great video!!

Nice! Great to see a well organized closet! I have a similar layout closet but with way too many shoes and boots. The storage stool is a brilliant idea and one that I'll be adding to my closet. I share the closet with my wife but I have many more clothing items and footwear than she does.... if only I could get her to move her stuff to a guest room closet! haha Love the idea of placing pictures on outside of boxes for easy identification also, time to pony up for a handy Polaroid printer! Thanks for the tips and tour!

Impressive closet. The thing that impressed me most is the fact u have thread and needles in ur dresser and u can stitch up minor things such as nicks on socks and u can sew up ur shirt buttons urself. This goes to show how passionate and organised u are as a person. I like the photo of u wth ur mother. Ur parents have done a wonderful job. I am sure u make them proud! I wud like to see a necktie collection and a cufflinks collection. Thank u.

Hmm, brilliant use of not-a-lot-of-space. I'm in a 1950 suburban colonial that was originally 1400sf, and the closets are tiny. Previous owner did make the MBR closet into one that is my wife's then a smaller one that is mine with shelves. But you gave me some ideas to improve storage. Never thought to go seasonal.

The best addition to any of my closets was cedar flooring fixed on the ceiling. I've since moved and unfortunately don't have any pictures. But aside from the benefits of cedar, the aesthetics of wood ceiling was amazing. It was relatively inexpensive, so I'll probably be doing it again in the new place.

This video inspired me to redo my family room and master closets. I used a wire shelving system from the local big box store. The experience lead me to wonder if KAHP could do more “real” clothes and accessory storage content for those of us who need to temper our per square foot expectations but still want to store our items well.

    Hello sir.
A friend of mine has a couple antique travel chests.
Things are quite large and open up to reveal their small closets with hangers drawers even hat storage. Made of bull hide brass and redwood to with stand the rigors of 1930s travel. 4 feet tall 3 feet wide opened up they are stunning.
Question.. do you and Mrs.Allison ever have style "conversations"?

  • @volkovilya5
    @volkovilya5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

He lives strangely. :D it's not about the size of the wardrobe. 1. Shoes, no matter how clean they were, smell of turpentine and sweat. 2. Clothes smell after a day of wearing, even a jacket, and shirts smell like powder after washing. 3. you can Fix socks on a burned-out light bulb, as it was done in the USSR.

      It's modest, but thanks!

Modest is good, I was working towards this same concept, until the hurricane Harvey flood. I am starting over in a new location and will get there one day soon.

Michael Fischer sorry to hear about that. The hurricane affected a lot of my family also. Hopefully you’ve got some insurance money to help you restart!

I did, and it has helped but there were more people that lost mote than myself. I cut my losses and moved closer to Houston since I tend to work in the area a lot, well pretty much all around Texas and Louisiana. I got enough to get into another home. I am sorry to hear about your family I know how they feel. My heart goes out to all who suffered in the storm, it really effected so many, mentally, physically and financial.

I knew your home would have class, real old school class. I also love that you spent so little on the closet. I feel the same way, the less you spend on the closet the more you have for more bespoke shoes! :) it shows as well that one does not have to spend a fortune to have an efficient and good looking closet.
Oh, and I can’t wait for your watch video, did I spy a gorgeous Chopard complication, perpetual calendar?

You've got a really good eye... yes, the Chopard Perpetual Calendar was a gift from my wife on my 30th birthday. A very special watch. I've been fascinated with perpetual calendars since I first started learning about watches in high school. Easily my favorite of all the grand complications.
The closet does not have to be something one spends a ton of money on. What I liked about this particular closet company is that they were able to deliver all the functionality I needed without having to pay for finishing.

Kirby, I love watches. I have done ever since being given my first watch, a Timex when I was eight years old back in the 1970’s, a gift from my older brother for being a Paige boy at his wedding!
I collect mainly vintage pieces from the 1940’s and 50’s though own a few newer watches also.
I love Chopard, it’s a company I regard as old school class if that makes sense? Not everyone knows about them but if you are into watches or very fine jewelry then it is a company that garners huge respect.
The Perpetual calendar I think is one of the most fascinating complications. The fact that leap years and odd months are accounted for purely by mechanical means is a great achievement I think.
You can tell you really love watches as one minute you could be wearing this, the next the Datejust and then your Timex. To me that is a watch enthusiast that loves the history of horology.
What I think would be a lovely addition is a simple gold dress watch from the likes of Vacheron or Patek from the 1950’s, I think it would suit your style and deportment wonderfully.

Thank you for your comment! What a great story - thank you for sharing. I, too, have always been fascinated by watches. I fell in love with this Chopard - especially with it's retrograde date indicator. A very elegant, simple timepiece. This watch is from the 1990's, and I found one of the original ads for the watch, which I had framed. This was back before Chopard started making all the movements in-house. The ebauche is Jeager. It's an absolutely lovely watch that is currently my favorite.
It is funny you mention a more simple gold dress watch... just for Christmas I acquired a Patek Calatrava 3919. Another beautiful watch. Ill film a watch video here soon!

My last Job before the Navy required me to read, "Dress for Success" by John Malloy. Have you read it? Had to abide by it on our business trips.
