This is the best star trek panel I've watched by far! Not only Lavar, Wil and Jonathan were hilarious, but the people asking the questions were extremely funny and intelligent! That was pure stand up comedy (with the exception that everyone was sitting down :P )
Some trivia here - they asked about guest stars who were big fans of the show - my favorite has to be Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. He wanted to be on the show so much he took a role as a big alien fish guy who never even had a real line - he just gurgled and ate raw fish.
I remember reading rainbow and the transporter effect using the sparkles in the glass. I was so shocked when Levar mentioned that, I remember that from when I was in elementary school!!! Great memories. That is how I first learned about STNG!!! It looked so amazing back then and still is awesome.
@15:00"Are you suggesting that there may have been something on Star Trek was created for dramatic entertainment effect that is not correctly tied to something that exists in reality?" ~ ThankYou Wil!!
Ashley Judd was in two episodes of TNG, as well. as the character of Robin Lefler in two episodes: Darmok; and The Game. Here's a short clip of her with Anderson Cooper about this: th-cam.com/video/nFthhb-zJSQ/w-d-xo.html

I´m sure the that in the 2k views of this video no more than 10% listened to that entire question, and somehow Wil did, and answered intelligently But when some Shatner would say "get a life", this Wheaton gives dimension and importance to a follower´s voice.
LOLOL, Ryker had this funny walk through generations where he would walk heavy with one shoulder leaning forward and his head tilted to the side while the look on his face was like GET ME OUT OF HERE PLEASE. lolololol
He was probably the most established actor of the main cast in America, Patrick Stewart was mostly famous in Britain and mostly on stage. Whoopi was probably the biggest star of all the recurring roles.

Kinda surprised when Wil started talking about "the episode where he was in the shuttle with Picard" no one yelled out "SAMARITAN SNARE!!!" as he had forgotten the episode name.
Starting at 8:44, I take every bad thought I had about Westley back. I bet thats not the 1st extra he wreaked either. Hell, I bet they all wreaked their fair share.
Yes it does and he is fucking right it is! Remember those holosuites from Quarks bar in DS9? There is a reason why they were so popular and my guess is, that this very reason will be a driving force for the actual VR industry XD
Shadow Duck same as porn was the driving force for the Internet...and naughty pictures were the driving force for digital cameras. Why spend £200 on a 2Mpix camera, back in 2001 etc. when you could get a fantastic film camera for less...why would you sacrifice money and picture quality just so you didn't have to get the pictures developed...so yes, the holodeck would have been developed on the back of people wanting to f*ck a film star etc.
Gotta love when the super nerds get handed the microphone and go off on some tangent about some fan story they wrote or some fan fiction book they read. Like just take it down a notch kids!
And some Star Trek TNG viewers became computer techs. Star Trek TNG got me interested in it. So, I learned to become a Computer and machine tech. Got my degree as a Computer tech.
No-one has ever said this but me: l think that Jonathan looks like William Shatner - more so when he was younger. I always wondered if that was why he was selected for the role.🤔

@10:51 @Jonathan Frakes - Gene is correct about the future when it comes to poverty and war in general. But what he was unaware of the the cyclical feedback that _he_ created... 1) Gene has a vision for the future 2) Gene creates a TV show that hints at such a future, without knowing precisely how to achieve it 3) The TV show gains not just popularity, but becomes a part of the culture 4) Through the influence and inspiration of children, generations grow up with a positive outlook of this vision of the future 5) This influence manifests in those children by way of specialization of jobs in the working world 6) Technologies are created that continually counter the reasons for poverty, inequality and war. (technology abolishes scarcity (eg. the replicator), the basis of property) 7) Through this feedback, Gene maybe the source of his own vision. It is nothing short of miraculous what humans can achieve, once _they_ decide to participate... It is up to us now.
My only problem with "Star Trek" is Roddenberry's humanistic philosophy. We can accomplish great things with our minds, both individually and collectively...but we're not all-powerful. There's certain things we'll never be able to do, because we're finite.
I'm a humanist. And nowhere does it says anything about being humans being 'all-powerful'. I think you may be confusing dogmatic religion with humanism. Which is odd I must say, since they are paradigm opposites! Also, "There's certain things we'll never be able to do, because we're finite." is just a simple a truism. Duh! What does this have to do with humanism? If anything, knowing we are finite and limited is _precisely_ what humanism is about! lol But, yes... recognizing what _we can do_ is definded by what _we know we can't_.
Evitable Well, one thing we'll never do in and of ourselves is explore space in person beyond our own solar system. The nearest one to our own is Proxima Centauri, and at our best speed now, it would take over 200,000 years at a constant of 15 miles per second.
Based on what we understand now, I completely agree with your conclusion. But I think we may be talking cross purposes here. Star Trek isn't about traveling through space, that's if you take it literately and on face value, but instead about learning what it is to be human. Star Trek is about the interaction between humans, exploring our morals and ethics, simply set in a science fiction universe using other species as representations of human biases. So we can step out from our own perspective and perhaps see things from the view of someone else. To me, Its about expanding our circle of empathy.
