    After trying to get a turkey for seven years, I finally succeeded this past spring with a nice Tom and a bearded hen. I have watched your video at least 15 times because I’ve never worked with Bondo and doing my first turkey tail mount. I think you are a great instructor. I want you to know how much this video has been appreciated!!

    Great video, I have found before putting the bondo on at 11:10, it is best to drizzle hot glue over the base of the feathers, this just helps the feathers keep their place when applying the bondo.

    You are a great instructor. Because of you, I have started taxidermy and learn from your how tos everytime. I know it isn't the focus of your channel but I would love to see more videos on your taxidermy process as each one is so helpful. This one has given a starting point for a Turkey I will be starting soon. Thanks so much!

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I’ve only done half dozen or so and not as thorough as this removing ALL of the meat and fat. I just carved what I could, boraxed it and pinned it in place to cardboard until it cured. If I ever do another I’ll try this way. Love your vids.

    I'll be traveling to Vermont for a couple days this season on a deer hunting/tracking trip. I'm trying to expand my hunting experience to other states. I live in Central NY an hour south of Syracuse. I hunt the Adirondacks for one week each year. Your tips and tricks have been FANTASTIC! I haven't been successful YET but I'm hoping this year is the year. I will be in the Groton Wilderness area VT for 4 days this season, i would absolutely LOVE to swing by your shop and meet all of you if possible!

    Very close to how I did a fan for a decoy. The difference between yours and what I did is that I used a hot glue gun. I cleaned the feathers next day after harvest, glued them to a small piece of plywood, then spray painted plywood and end of feathers black. Worked great for decoy, then I started making fans with all feathers in similar to what you did. I have made about 10 for myself and a hunting buddy. Might have to try bondo on next one. Great video, very well presented. After having a taxidermist friend of mine do so many deer and turkeys for me and hanging around his shop a couple of days a week I should have learned the trade years ago. Again well presented

    How do you get your bondo to stay soft? I put a little bit of hardener on the main bondo and nope it don’t work

    • @mtndeer
      @mtndeer  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need everything ready to go as possible the video demonstrates the exact amount of time you have or Like one comment suggested pour hot glue on it first then make some for your Bondo over the top after.

  • @matthewadkisson99

    What do you paint the feet with? Or how do you preserve the feet??

    • @mtndeer
      @mtndeer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can be sprayed with an airbrush. I use a Pepto-Bismol color of pink darkening it or making it a little redder with Gil read. You can mix flesh tone and bright red to achieve the color you’re looking for. Spray the side and the top after covering the toenails. The spur will also need to be covered. Position the feed and let them dry. I often use water-based colors so if I messed up it can be removed and start over. The feet have no actual meat in them so they generally don’t rot. There are some solutions that can be injected with a needle found in McKenzie taxidermy supply

    • @mtndeer
      @mtndeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FYI bothering you have trouble as soon as the Bondo starts to kick in Harden go ahead and just break it apart with your hands and gently pull each feather out in rearrange things and start over before it hardens a real solid

    That takes so much time. I preferred to just use the skin and it never goes bad and always looks great, but Hat off to you for doing all that work. I would just stick to stretching it and salting the base.
