  • This is an excerpt from our interview with Noam Chomsky and Vijay Prashad to discuss their new book "The Withdrawal." To Noam and Vijay, US global power acts much the same way a Godfather rules over a Mafia family, imposing its interests on all who stand in its way domestically or internationally. The wide-ranging discussion touches on American exceptionalism, Military Keynesianism, the roadblocks for a new Iran Nuclear Deal, and the implications of Rep Nancy Pelosi's recent visit to Taiwan.

    Dr. Chomsky is still very mentally sharp at his advanced age. Wishing him well for many more decades.

    The great leftist historian and commentator Vijay wears a black, Japanese Joy Division T-shirt. So cool.

    It's important to acknowledge that this exceptionalism is not unique to the United States. China also sees itself as a special nation, an exceptional nation, and as socialists we presumably believe in spreading the doctrine harnessed by our own exceptionalism, right?

    • @AQuietNight
      @AQuietNight ปีที่แล้ว

      American exceptionalism was a description of the relationship of the government to the citizen.
      Alexis de Tocqueville thought it was exceptional Americans relied less on national government
      than their European counterparts to solve local problems.

      @@poisonivy745 From the "imperial core," no doubt!
      Alas, do you not believe in socialism being exceptional, the ideal form of organising society? Do you not want to spread its ideals? Do you not support socialist governments spreading and implementing socialist doctrine?
      If indeed you don't - you're not a very good socialists then, are you!
