I see no reason why they cant verify the mod after the fact, considering this is a world record setting run. There's literally nothing actually preventing them from verifying this run - they just need to verify the mod. All that's stopping them is stubbornness. It doesn't set a bad precedent because any future runs that encounter the same issue would also need to have any unverifiable mods verified, and would mean there's no potential for any unfair advantage.
behavior packs are like a mix between mods and datapacks. i don't understand why anybody would use them in a speedrun though seeing as bedrock cant have world previews or things like that, and is pretty optimized on its own@@PandyEX.

If the mod is only there to prevent a crash and doesn’t effect the gameplay nor the game’s visuals, it 100% should be allowed. No matter what ends up happening, I’m sure the MCSR community will still see this run as WR.
unfortunately with so many people running the game, the system cannot realistically work like that. there are not enough people and time to check every mod and its interactions and consequences to the rest of minecraft's code for every run, which is why there is significant control over which mods are legal for the leaderboard.

I can already see scenarios with increasingly obscure anti crash or stability related mods with hidden code for cheating purposes. It should be allowed, but because cheaters exist it can't be allowed.

I think the part that some people are overlooking is that the leaderboard isn't meant to be a comprehensive list of all speedruns, it's a curated list of verifiable runs with the hope that all the runs on it can be reasonably expected to have been legitimately played under the same ruleset. Unrecorded runs also don't appear on the leaderboard for the same reason. It's entirely valid for a run to be an unofficial world record accepted by the community and still not appear on the leaderboard, which I think is probably what will happen here. It's an unfortunate situation, but there's more to speedrunning than placement on a leaderboard and this run is certainly one to be proud of regardless.

The mod doesn't seem to affect actual gameplay in any way, nor does it give drip an unfair advantage, so this run does deserve to be on the leaderboard
With the mod being only a few lines of code, making it easy to check, and since it doesn't affect gameplay, I think it's very much worth adding it to the list or accepted mods and retroactively approving the run.
While this is true for this one instance, we have to still remember that countless other non-wr runs have to be treated equally. Considering that verifying this one mod would mean verifying a lot of other mods for random runners OR giving special treatment to a run for being a WR, I find the ruling understandable. However, I do reckon this special treatment will find itself in through the popularity this case is generating.
@@Attewir I don't think you're going to find a lot of runs that not only are world record, but that contain only one unverified mod with an amount of lines that can be counted with the fingers of one hand. So if you apply that equally, you're not going to find a lot of cases, if any.

I mean the leaderboard takes forever to even verify new World Records to begin with, so I think the community has never treated it as the be all end all source of what is and isn't the current WR. Because of this, I think that while it would be very nice to have drip's run approved, if it doesn't I don't think anyone will really care lol
I believe the run should be on the leaderboard because the mod in his files does not change the gameplay WHATSOEVER. It only prevents the game from crashing. With the code being open to view, I view that rejecting this speedrun from being posted on the leaderboard is ridiculous.

If judges docked a contestant’s points because they saw him use an inhaler before his show in the Olympics and the docked points were the only thing holding them back from being #1 I’m sure the majority of viewers would see the judge’s errors and disregard their decision. Especially if it was public. Edit: Oh also it isn’t about professionalism, it is how the viewers (who are not forced to be professional) deciding the judges were wrong and personally disregarding their judgement despite what media may say.
the craziest thing isn't that he didn't get verified the run, it is actually the fact that it is a 100% beatable one, mainly because of the many mistakes he got during the run. But man... give him the wr, that mod is not that bad.
i think any mod that can be proven to not modify anything effecting the run should be alowed like for example if this run was to be found but the mod was in the files simply take it to a new world and test any run effecting features or check the code if the mod is found to not have effects on the run it should be valid
There's hundreds of runs in the queue. Think about how impossible it would be to verify them if everyone used whatever mods they wanted and you had to check every one. There's a reason there's a strict list of allowed mods.

this reminds of me when i submitted a run(ssg obtain diamonds) where I spawned in and looted a blacksmith, but it got denied because i used a night vision texture pack.... yes, A NIGHT VISION TEXTURE PACK.... WHICH I USED ON A RUN THAT LASTED LIKE 5 SECONDS... WHERE I NEVER BENEFITTED FROM USING THAT PACK
You don't have to get to 99 on t91, you can setup for 95 just offset by one block, which pretty much lets you do the same damage, and leaves plenty of time to setup. The nerves on this pace are more than understandable and with just 6 explosives there's a chance you won't get it, though it's probably less likely than the dragon just not perching P.S: imo this should definitely be verified. Drip made an honest mistake and it probably didn't affect the run in any way did it?
@@LewisFulham you can go to 99 indeed and it's the best thing to do but you need near perfect pearls and you just don't have much time to setup. I'm nowhere near a zero expert either, but in my attempts on Drip's seed I found that I could get really bad pearls and still have comfortable time to do the setup at 95
2:06 This is actually a strat that speedrunners use if u didnt know that helps them see in the lava I think, because they knew that they werent going to get a good pearl on the fortress, its not a mistake, theres a video on it if u wanna check it out.

I wouldn't want to set the precedent of having leaderboard moderators accept the requests to look at and verify mods for new submissions, even if they were world records. They're volunteers and that would be very demanding of their time. But at the same time, I think this one instance would be nice to see them verify this mod officially and then retroactively accept his run :1 It seems like a real honest mistake, and very easy to validate with how small (and open source) the mod is.
This is one of the best minecraft speed runs we've had for the community this year. not because it was perfect, but because it shows what's still possible

Clearly the rules are there to stop cheating. If someone uses a mod that barely does anything and just stops crashes then the moderators should verify the mod and accept the run. Just denying the run outright is just lazy and silly.
You can't allow every run which uses an illegal mod just because it allegedly does nothing. Mods can't check every random mod people use, so where do you draw the line? Making exceptions just because it's a world record isn't good either. Rules can't have subjective grey areas in such an ultracompetitive category.
@@DueySR Making an exception because it's a world record is literally the easiest solution. The only reason there's an accepted mod list is that it's not possible to check every single run submitted. Checking world record submissions is completely possible though.

@@DueySR It's not unfair because a run that is 143rd on the leaderboard does not need to be looked at as closely as a run that is 1st on the leaderboard. Even if someone got their run rejected because they didn't realize they were running an illegal mod, nothing is stopping them from treating their rejected run as a personal best and trying to beat that. Again, the obvious solution is to make an exception specifically for runs that are world record since they always require closer inspection by default.

We have a rules that everyone without exception follows and we can't just accept and allow mods that "don't affect" the game, even if they really don't. There are rules and you HAVE to FOLLOW them, it’s sad and all this , but that’s how it's works
Why is that how it works? Because someone said so? The rules allow several mods very similar to this, since they enhance the performance of the computer without changing the game. This mod needs to be added to that list, and then the run needs to be reverified.
I get the "no foreign mod" rule but why isn't there an exception to check the mods used for well known player's wr run? They seem like they have a good history on speedrun attempts so just a rando trying to claim WR with unfair advantage is very unlikely. Is it that resource intensive for mods check?
There’s been cases in the past where actually approved mods had to be banned going forward (or players forced to update to a new version) because of gameplay issues that were only found later. There was one anti-cheat mod in use for a while that affected arrow rng for instance, and nobody noticed. There’ve been performance mods that altered world generation. So that’s why the blanket rule that only approved mods can be used. It’s too much to expect unpaid volunteers to go through every boutique mod somebody wants to use thoroughly enough to make sure there’s absolutely zero unintended effects.
They should reconsider it for him as well as for future runners instead of outright disallowing it just bc of the pre-existing rules, it's no harm at all

Couriway said he thinks the reason he went into f5 was because he thought the pearl landed in the lava and he wanted to be able to see when it landed on the bottom. But it ended up just taking longer to hit than he thought.
i think it makes sense in the grand scheme of things not to allow the run. expecting the moderators to analyze every run which has a strange mod on it to make sure that mod didnt effect the run would be unrealistic. he did it once, i have faith he can do it again.

Its practically impossible to create perfect rules that eliminate all sources of injustice, meaning the system will still be more or less fair depending on the situation, so not everyone treated fairly and the system is unfair, same thing here "its not just this run...every run" theres a reason everyone cares about this run, its because its exceptional. its being accepted as the new world record whether you (and the speedrun moderators) like it or not. Just because a website doesn't accept their speedrun doesn't mean it isn't the world record. The website chooses what they want to put on it but that doesn't have any bearing on the runs that actually happen

great video. I have no idea what 90% of the terminology means and honestly I love it. It's just really fun to look at something like this from an outsider perspective. I think if I actually knew all the tech and how it works I would find the run a lot less interesting.

I'm sure that if people actually see this, then I'm gonna get hate. Do I think he deserves the WR? yes. Do I also think the leaderboard mods made the right call at the time? also yes. Rules are rules, and the runners for a lot of these other major speed games have to follow the rules down to the letter. No one should be using mods other than the approved mods. But hopefully the leaderboard mods will review this mod, approve it, and properly verify this run. And if you want to use a mod that hasn't been approved yet, especially as a top runner, then just keep bugging the leaderboard mods to review it and add it to the list of approved mods. Especially for the reasoning given in the pinned comments.

Mods, please allow this run. By allowing this run we can see a 7:07 by doogile and there have 3 sub 7:30s in a month.
With the mod being only a few lines of code, making it easy to check, and since it doesn't affect gameplay, I think it's very much worth adding it to the list or accepted mods and retroactively approving the run.
While this is true for this one instance, we have to still remember that countless other non-wr runs have to be treated equally.
Considering that verifying this one mod would mean verifying a lot of other mods for random runners OR giving special treatment to a run for being a WR, I find the ruling understandable.
However, I do reckon this special treatment will find itself in through the popularity this case is generating.
@@Attewir I don't think you're going to find a lot of runs that not only are world record, but that contain only one unverified mod with an amount of lines that can be counted with the fingers of one hand. So if you apply that equally, you're not going to find a lot of cases, if any.
@@theskull1030 speedrun leaderboards arent just about number 1 tho, if youre going to verify that run for an unverified mod, you then have to accept a million other runs that were previously disqualified for similar cases, no matter where they might hypothetically end up on the leaderboard

Because of this, I think that while it would be very nice to have drip's run approved, if it doesn't I don't think anyone will really care lol

I believe the run should be on the leaderboard because the mod in his files does not change the gameplay WHATSOEVER. It only prevents the game from crashing. With the code being open to view, I view that rejecting this speedrun from being posted on the leaderboard is ridiculous.

How are you comparing the Olympics to MCSR? Either way you’re wrong. If judges docked a contestant’s points because they saw him use an inhaler before his show in the Olympics and the docked points were the only thing holding them back from being #1 I’m sure the majority of viewers would see the judge’s errors and disregard their decision. Especially if it was public.
Edit: Oh also it isn’t about professionalism, it is how the viewers (who are not forced to be professional) deciding the judges were wrong and personally disregarding their judgement despite what media may say.

the craziest thing isn't that he didn't get verified the run, it is actually the fact that it is a 100% beatable one, mainly because of the many mistakes he got during the run. But man... give him the wr, that mod is not that bad.
It doesn't really matter what the leaderboards say. We all know it's the world record.
i think any mod that can be proven to not modify anything effecting the run should be alowed like for example if this run was to be found but the mod was in the files simply take it to a new world and test any run effecting features or check the code if the mod is found to not have effects on the run it should be valid
There's hundreds of runs in the queue. Think about how impossible it would be to verify them if everyone used whatever mods they wanted and you had to check every one. There's a reason there's a strict list of allowed mods.

I think no matter what mods think, this will still be considered wr among the community- if drip isnt found cheating, I dont see why your average person in mcsr would be against dubbing the 7:01 as a valid wr. Drip's run is fantastic and i do nothing but congratulate him 👏👏

It should be fine. Once the mods check the mod and confirm it has nothing illegal in it, it should be approved.

WHICH I USED ON A RUN THAT LASTED LIKE 5 SECONDS... WHERE I NEVER BENEFITTED FROM USING THAT PACK

You don't have to get to 99 on t91, you can setup for 95 just offset by one block, which pretty much lets you do the same damage, and leaves plenty of time to setup.
The nerves on this pace are more than understandable and with just 6 explosives there's a chance you won't get it, though it's probably less likely than the dragon just not perching
P.S: imo this should definitely be verified. Drip made an honest mistake and it probably didn't affect the run in any way did it?

@@LewisFulham you can go to 99 indeed and it's the best thing to do but you need near perfect pearls and you just don't have much time to setup.
I'm nowhere near a zero expert either, but in my attempts on Drip's seed I found that I could get really bad pearls and still have comfortable time to do the setup at 95

2:06 This is actually a strat that speedrunners use if u didnt know that helps them see in the lava I think, because they knew that they werent going to get a good pearl on the fortress, its not a mistake, theres a video on it if u wanna check it out.
Yes, The mistake was hitting the fort. Had he not hit the fort then being in f5 would be the correctt play. He hit the fort and couldnt clutch.

I wouldn't want to set the precedent of having leaderboard moderators accept the requests to look at and verify mods for new submissions, even if they were world records. They're volunteers and that would be very demanding of their time. But at the same time, I think this one instance would be nice to see them verify this mod officially and then retroactively accept his run :1
It seems like a real honest mistake, and very easy to validate with how small (and open source) the mod is.
They need to verify this run if they want to retain their credibility. Otherwise they're just admitting they're playing favorites.
I think minecraft leaderboards should be the same as mario 64, where runs can be on the leaderboards despite being labeled as unverified

Clearly the rules are there to stop cheating. If someone uses a mod that barely does anything and just stops crashes then the moderators should verify the mod and accept the run. Just denying the run outright is just lazy and silly.
You can't allow every run which uses an illegal mod just because it allegedly does nothing. Mods can't check every random mod people use, so where do you draw the line? Making exceptions just because it's a world record isn't good either. Rules can't have subjective grey areas in such an ultracompetitive category.
@@DueySR Making an exception because it's a world record is literally the easiest solution. The only reason there's an accepted mod list is that it's not possible to check every single run submitted. Checking world record submissions is completely possible though.

Even if someone got their run rejected because they didn't realize they were running an illegal mod, nothing is stopping them from treating their rejected run as a personal best and trying to beat that.
Again, the obvious solution is to make an exception specifically for runs that are world record since they always require closer inspection by default.

We have a rules that everyone without exception follows and we can't just accept and allow mods that "don't affect" the game, even if they really don't. There are rules and you HAVE to FOLLOW them, it’s sad and all this , but that’s how it's works
Why is that how it works? Because someone said so? The rules allow several mods very similar to this, since they enhance the performance of the computer without changing the game. This mod needs to be added to that list, and then the run needs to be reverified.
If you spend hours upon hours to find wr seed and perform really good, you don't want your game to be crashing, idk wth the mods were thinking about
I get the "no foreign mod" rule but why isn't there an exception to check the mods used for well known player's wr run? They seem like they have a good history on speedrun attempts so just a rando trying to claim WR with unfair advantage is very unlikely. Is it that resource intensive for mods check?
There’s been cases in the past where actually approved mods had to be banned going forward (or players forced to update to a new version) because of gameplay issues that were only found later. There was one anti-cheat mod in use for a while that affected arrow rng for instance, and nobody noticed. There’ve been performance mods that altered world generation. So that’s why the blanket rule that only approved mods can be used. It’s too much to expect unpaid volunteers to go through every boutique mod somebody wants to use thoroughly enough to make sure there’s absolutely zero unintended effects.
If they're passionate enough about minecraft speedrunning then they would definitely check it.@@BlueCyann

Couriway said he thinks the reason he went into f5 was because he thought the pearl landed in the lava and he wanted to be able to see when it landed on the bottom. But it ended up just taking longer to hit than he thought.

i think it makes sense in the grand scheme of things not to allow the run. expecting the moderators to analyze every run which has a strange mod on it to make sure that mod didnt effect the run would be unrealistic. he did it once, i have faith he can do it again.

yes it is? a few lines of code is monumentally easier than many lines to tell if its doing anything it shouldn't, unless its being obfuscated but again with less code its easier to figure out if there could be something weird happening.
rules set in stone are also not a great system. example: the rules of almost any if not every country. Its practically impossible to create perfect rules that eliminate all sources of injustice, meaning the system will still be more or less fair depending on the situation, so not everyone treated fairly and the system is unfair, same thing here

theres a reason everyone cares about this run, its because its exceptional. its being accepted as the new world record whether you (and the speedrun moderators) like it or not. Thats because its easy for people to check the open source mod's few lines of code and see whether or not theres anything affecting the gameplay. the mod was also used to fix a really annoying crash and though they say they would've rather fixed it in the mod i have doubts whether it would've actually happened, or how long it would take.

Just because a website doesn't accept their speedrun doesn't mean it isn't the world record. The website chooses what they want to put on it but that doesn't have any bearing on the runs that actually happen

great video. I have no idea what 90% of the terminology means and honestly I love it. It's just really fun to look at something like this from an outsider perspective. I think if I actually knew all the tech and how it works I would find the run a lot less interesting.

I'm sure that if people actually see this, then I'm gonna get hate. Do I think he deserves the WR? yes. Do I also think the leaderboard mods made the right call at the time? also yes. Rules are rules, and the runners for a lot of these other major speed games have to follow the rules down to the letter. No one should be using mods other than the approved mods. But hopefully the leaderboard mods will review this mod, approve it, and properly verify this run. And if you want to use a mod that hasn't been approved yet, especially as a top runner, then just keep bugging the leaderboard mods to review it and add it to the list of approved mods. Especially for the reasoning given in the pinned comments.
I agree with the mods, allowing this to be a WR would set a bad precedent. If we're allowed to break the rules, why do we need them anyway?
