Thank you! I needed to hear this. It's so true - even the tiniest slights and deeds of ill will may cause a lot of ripples.

    Bhante,
This question haunts me too. Especially since I unfortunately let a colleague be insulted without reacting, thinking I was doing the right thing: 1. In order not to aggravate the situation because I knew that the insulted person was a genius compared to the moron and that he would manage the situation better than me ; and that the other was going to get even more furious if I intervened, and 2. Out of fear, shame, to pass myself off as a hero for so little (low self esteem) because the villain was an older man and I knew i was stronger just in case.
Anyway .... I stayed mindfull and I sent metta as much as I could, but obviously not being a Buddha that was not enough. The fact is that I have since regretted it.
So for me it is obvious that the answer of the Buddha would have been perfect, but which one? I think he would have spoken, if only to show the audience the right way to react themselves.
    Thank you for your teachings
    Metta to all

In case of a threat to his parents the Buddha would have pacified the aggressor with metta just the way he pacified the elephant that was supposed to kill him.

Okay. I made it to the end. I'll try more to not get triggered, and be the "broken bell."

I noticed many females go to the gym with their spouses and when they don't train with their partners they tend to dress more tight and skimpy. And when some men there, those are very few, ignore that, the females seem to hold grudges against those men. For me, they are definitely one group of people I think nobody can win.
