    I agree with Irene, you should share a few more videos Sharla! You should have been a teacher! You're great at this.

    Thank you for sharing, how long does it usually takes to root? It looks like it can take a long time.

      Hi and thank you :) I do not cut my needles because, as you can probably see, my rooting tool is just a makeup sponge that I poke the needle through and then wrap up with part of a nylon hose with rubberbands wrapped around it. In the video you can actually see the hook pressed against the sponge. The needles I use are 42g triangle felting needles (R1111. I will update the comments with a link to where I got them from) These needles do break much easier than some I have had in the past from reborning shops, but I prefer them because the hole they leave in the vinyl is practically invisible even if the hair is plucked out. The needles are sold in lots of 500 pieces, however, on a good note, they are still extremely affordable and so it doesn't matter if you break them easily. I have several other rooting tools but none of them are as comfortable and lightweight as my self-made sponge monstrosity LOL.

      I make my own needles. I use organ brand sewing machine needles with a mushroom style wood handle holder. I use cutco brand scissors to cut the pointed tip off the needle right at the eye it leaves a Y like fork end and i root at an angle of a slant. Oh also i like to cut at a slight angle .. (so its a lower case y) the one side being longer helps grab the hair. It only grabs 1 yearling hair at a time maybe two if u have thinner kid mohair. These needles are strong they dont break and theyre shorter than felting needles which gives me more control.

      kerry denman , Poke it into a beauty sponge and wrap rubber bands or string around it to look kind of like hers

    • @lndigoSky
      @lndigoSky  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kerry. I am so sorry that I missed your comment. As Bottom Right Richie said, I just poke my needle through a beauty sponge, and then I wrap the cut end of a knee-high stocking around it sort of tightly so that my needle feels pretty firmly in place, and then I wrap rubberbands around it. It looks ugly, but it is light-weight and very comfortable for my hands. (I had bilateral carpel tunnel release surgeries and some other needle holders hurt my hands.) I hope this helps. Thank you Bottom Right Richie for responding to kerry's question.

    How many barbs does the 42g triangle felting needles (R111) have? Also where can that mohair you are using in this video?

    • @lndigoSky
      @lndigoSky  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they have 2 barbs on each side, so total of 6 barbs altogether. The mohair is Susan Nagel mohair. Lilian Trigg carries it at www.lilliantrigg.com/mohair.html as their Super Deluxe line. It is amazing hair to work with! Hope this helps!

    Will This Work on a Human Head? If so, please provide details.

    • @lndigoSky
      @lndigoSky  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, this is a demonstration on how to add hair to a vinyl doll's head only. Please do not attempt this on a human!

      Thank you for watching and commenting. This method is definitely the easiest method for me to use. I have seen many artists having brilliant success with other methods, and I love the variety of styles an artist can employ in reborning to achieve incredibly realistic results.

      Actually, the sculpt I am working on in this video is made from vinyl, not silicone.

    Is it necessary to have a pillow?

    • @lndigoSky
      @lndigoSky  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brenda. No, you can also root without a pillow. It is easier for me with the pillow because I like having something soft underneath it so I do not worry about abrasions or scuff marks on the painting. I also wear gloves so that I do not get oils from my skin on the vinyl, but there are plenty of artists out there that do not find that necessary and still manage to keep their dolls pristine. It comes down to whatever works for you!

      It is a lovely sculpt. I just want to warn you that there are fakes of this kit on sale on Ebay and I would recommend buying directly from the sculptor at www.axels-puppenshop.de/engl/index_engl.html or from a trustworthy reborning supply source. I like to buy directly from the sculptors when possible. I hope this helps! Good luck!
