@@shady5595 I noticed that many people are bias against Iizuka and misrepresent very often what he says to try to prove that he knows nothing about the characters. For example, he mentioned recently that Sonic Team may bring the more evil side of Shadow and some people thought that they would make Shadow a villain again while he just said that he would do evil acts according to the perceptions of others to achieve his goals. That's exactly the definition of anti-hero. Shadow, unlike Sonic, would kill those who stands in his way or do evil acts to protect the Earth. I know that Iizuka said many questionable things like the 2 worlds in Sonic or the bullshit excuse of the Super Emeralds being in another dimension but we have to remember that he's not the supervisor of the Sonic characters. The supervisor is Toyoda and he makes a really good job at it.
I can understand this take, but I think the best way to do it is more so to combine the 2. Instead of Shadow either living only for Maria, or just completely forsaking her existence like she doesn't matter, we should have Shadow want to protect the earth, and do anything to accomplish that goal, and does it in honour of her memory, as that was her wish too. Basically, what @islamforever5875 said.
Honestly What happened here is that sega and sonic team have realized that what people like is 2000s ish sonic and they prefer the japanese like stories rather than the American ones, explaining the anime and manga coming as well as the story being more like games pre-2010s, and theyve realized their audience hates most 2010s content, except for a few like gens which is what their remastering, they also will make more quality games as sega with frontiers is realizing that sonic makes money if done right, so their letting sonic team cook rather than rush, and with movie3 peaking and how big sonic keeps on getting, they will only get better and better
Yup... sonic has his highs and lows like any other franchise would sometimes it's best to learn from our past mistakes and not repeating them and make a better future instead not just for sonic team but in general for any human also when you say it's too good to be true for sonic team you act like another studio made sonic X Shadow generations or they accidentally or just dumb luck managed to make this game that's..just doesn't make any sense
SEGA and Sonic Team: We are so glad you're enjoying the Shadow Generations Marketing! After the success of Frontiers, we wanted to make sure every game was the best it could be, and it's all thanks to your support and everlasting loyalty to Sonic! We hope you enjoy the Fearless year of Shadow! GullySama: What if Shadow Generations was BAD?!!? Jokes aside, I think your missing the point of the whole Fearless year of Shadow campaign. It isn't to advance the character of Shadow, it is to celebrate. This why we have 4 instances of the same story happening this year. Generations, Dark Beginnings, the manga, and Movie 3. They may reveal a few things here and there, but there won't be anything majorly new. That's not a bad thing though. Since this character has been properly re-introduce to the next generation of Sonic fans, a lot more can be done in the future with him.
Some of my favourite games have been beat em ups and adventures. I hopped back into the fandom after Imposter Syndrome in the Idw comics and ain’t played a game in a looong time. This looks perfect for me to be real
If you want to know more about Shadow's past read "The Jet Black Hedgehog: Shadow the Hedgehog" manga also available digitally for free but it has few chapters for now because it's new. On the first arc, it's detailing the daily life if Shadow at the Ark before GUN storming in. There's also minor flashback on Shadow's creation but not much for now, more will be shown in the coming chapters.
I think you might thinking a little to deep. You said bro was skimming past the question and i think it's because that will be answered in the game or the notebook. It possible sega wants to keep things secret or at least that. I'm also half way so maybe you say this but i just want to put this here.
@@WrecklezzENT I'm saying it possible not that it is. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong but things seem quite different on Sega's part as of late so who is to say this also hasn't changed. Not holding my breath just giving my opinion on the matter.
5:14 Which he doesn’t really in most of his appearances. And Shadow the Hedgehog seems to try giving an arc where he ignores his past at the end, which continues in 06.
From previous experiences I feel that Iizuka isn’t great with answering lore based questions, even with frontiers and forces he was either pretty vague, misleading, or just making stuff up. Like with the 2 worlds stuff or even some of the questions about Frontiers
I understand the worry, especially since Sonic Team has gotten our boy so wrong so many times before But I have faith, Sonic Team are really putting their all into restoring their characters and making Sonic something worth paying attention to again; I trust them to do Shadow the Hedgehog justice, both in-game and on the big screen
This is my expectations right now: I’m expecting the gameplay will be fun, but the story will be secondary to the gameplay. But my God, I would love to be proven wrong and for this to be one of the best stories Shadow has ever had.
I'm not really asking why he looks like a hedgehog I'm asking does he have any level of hedgehog DNA I mean obviously he should primarily be a hedgehog with black Doom DNA
The worst thing I can say is: on some level the doom powers feel pretty redundant in some areas specifically the wings and the board in the metal madness fight. HE HAS HOVERSKATES THAT WE HAVE SEEN HIM USE THEM TO BASICALLY FLY, MOVE FREELY IN ZERO G AREAS AND SKATE OVER WATER LIKE SONIC RUNS ON WATER. Past that I can see these powers being basically shadow being allowed to do things for traversal stuff gameplay wise like how the wisps did for sonic. I remember a video making that connection on TH-cam but for the life of me I can't remember what video it was but its not a bad idea. I was never a fan of sonic generations even though it wasn't a bad game, just never really got me to want to play so this is a good opportunity for me to jump in on it. I hope the game lives up to the hype.
My fear for this game is that 5 to 6 levels is not gonna be enough to get a good review. Generations got critiqued for 9 back in 2011 and although good today everything is about 80+ hours of story and an unrealistic checklist. I like what Sega is doing with Shadow but hope they factor in what may work against them when deciding how to move forward and not put Shadow on a shelf for another 20 years...
My biggest concern is that it will be bad mechanically, like broken and unfinished bad. As I’m sure we all know, not all sonic games are perfect and more than a few have released in a broken state, even ones that looked amazing during promotion. Even games that should be slam dunks like a simple remaster of an already beloved title aren’t safe (see: Sonic colours ultimate). So I can’t help but be worried about that behalf for Shadow generations. It looks amazing and I’m super hyped for it and can’t wait to play, but I know it’s very possible that the game can end up being be a glitchy unplayable mess. I don’t want it to be, but Sega have let me down many times before.
I think its totally reasonable to not always get the answer to everything, its what makes stories fun to come back to. And I think Iizuka knows this. An explanation can possibly be made, but I would imagine that it wouldn't live up to peoples expectations. Why Shadow is a hedgehog isn't even necessary to know, but people clearly have fun theorising it anyway.
Here is a list of Sonic games that were released during the Dreamcast/PS2 era (1998-2008): 1. Sonic Adventure (1998) 2. Sonic Adventure 2 (2001) 3. Sonic Shuffle (2000) 4. Sonic Heroes (2003) 5. Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) 7. Sonic Unleashed (2008)
Which ones? The other not thing I’m personally concerned about is the feel of the controls. But it looked decent in footage and from what I’ve seen of people who’ve played it, I’m not too worried.
Epissode Shadow was pretty good tho. Fire remixes, much better level design, better dialogue, and a slightly more interesting story. It was the first decent Team Dark characterization since 06
Honestly I hope they add the ability to be able to play as Shadow in Sonic stages. I know it wouldn’t make complete sense, but idk I think being able to play as shadow in green hill, or Sky sanctuary would be dope! Maybe get rid of the doom powers, I just want shadow :/
Im just REALY happy it comes out at all, my original sonic generations on steam has stopped working. Litterally cant boot it up for some reason. So it will be funn to actually get to play it again, AND with updated graphics, and alot more additional content
Sonic Adventure was the first game I've ever played in my entire life, and the whole franchise means a lot to me. Seeing it becoming all I've ever wanted of it is honestly one of the best feelings in the world. I seriously believe this is going to be best 3D Sonic game of all time, and will become the standard for future Sonic games to come. Also, looking back to The Final Horizon, and the current shift in tone for the franchise, I'd say they're laying the bases for what a future Sonic Adventure game would look like. Could either be a Sonic Adventure/Sonic Adventure 2 Remake or a new Sonic Adventure title. We already have: multiple gameplay styles (The Final Horizon -Tails, Amy and Knuckles controls- and SxSG's Shadow), a more "Adventure-styled" level design in SxSG, and more darker stories akin to the 2000s since Forces. Looks like SEGA and Sonic Team have indeed learnt from years of development hell, marketing failures, lack of vision and unpolished media. And all thanks to a simple redesign made by a Sonic fan for a movie that was going to flop so hard that Sonic Team would have never made a game again. I'm really happy for this franchise's future and looking forward to whatever they're cooking!
i think its more important that they get the gameplay right, and even if the story is a 6 or a 7/10, thats me happy. all the story has to do is just make sense
shadow in a movie will bring the movie community to there game and the dark beginning will bring like the ppl who watch cartoon and nime to the community of sonic so id say they ARE GOING ALL OUT in this one
the only bad part about this remaster is it doesnt look like sonic(modern) will get any new cool features or abilities(the drop dash are useless for modern)so its kinda lame that they doesnt bother to do something with modern sonic like how they give classic sonic a drop dash
I feel like a broken record, but it's because I find this to be true: Shadow Generations is a reminder to why many of the early 2000s fans became fans in the first place and it could be the seeds, like Frontiers, that they're planting in order to see if Sonic Adventure 3 can be a reality, both in gameplay and definitely in story and atmosphere
I am EXTREMELY EXCITED to pick up and PLAY THIS game! I’ve NEVER played Sonic Generations before, but I have seen gameplay videos of it through CobanerMani456 playing it. So, YEAH, I’m SUPER EXCITED! I hope I’ll get to pre-order the Deluxe Version of the game, as well!
I would love to see an Ifrit boss and nega Mother Wisp bosses in Sonic x Shadow generations. Both are connected to lore that sega refuses to use. Ifrit (sonic rivals 2) can destroy an intirer dimension bathing it in fire (the game comfirms its whole universe, not just a planet). Sonic and Shadow only defeat a heavily weakened ifrit as it isn't fully revived yet (it did eat a bunch of chao and become invincible, though. Plus, he has mind control powers and is just as sentient as chaos even though it wasn't at full power). But they still beat it in base, which is still incredibly impressive. I bring him up because Gerald has notes on ifrit implying Gerald Robotnik somehow got into the dimension that chaosic inferno takes place in. Plus, ifrit seems connected to the chao somehow, and Gerald knows of him, so i hope he is at least in the journal. As for the nega mother wisp, I loved her boss fight. She is a part of the wisps lore (yes, the wisps have lore actually lore, such as the mother wisp creating the wisps and the planets that eggman captured, the ds version of colors going into detail on how negative wisps are made and how it affects their minds, actually giving each wisps their own personalities like Lazer trying to fight the robots and void straight up destroying shit and causing chaos. The mother wisp is kind and motherly but can have a temper. eggman is lucky he got caught in the black hole before she got free. Plus, the wisps actually flow with level design in colors wii and ds. Similar to how the doom powers seem to. Unlike in the lost world or forces. The ds has a better story than the wii version. It has interesting lore, the wisps are fun and the stages are fun. Not to mention, multiple characters have sonic do missions to help free wisps or extra information on what is going on. I have both versions. The wisps are neat and do have lore. I wish sega would actually utilize their lore more). Ifrit and the mother wisp are very interesting and think you should cover them. Plus, the fact that Sonic and Shadow, among other characters, defeated Ifrit in base shows how powerful they are. Also, I think marine the raccoon should return due to her unexplained power, and the complaints about her are already addressed in her character arc and development from sonic rush adventure. Also, phantom king creates the egg revery, which is infinite in space-time, and space and time (yes, there is a difference) in Sonic Mania, and that's just classic super sonic. Also, Chaos drives, artificial chaos, the ark, and G.U.N. are all interesting. I wish sega would use them more, too. Oh, and Emerl and Gemerl should be explored a bit again. Sonic rush, rush adventure, rivals 2, the advance games, sonic battle, and Sonic colors ds deserve more attention. Oh, and sega sonic the hedgehog arcade is awesome. oh, and Sage definitely should return as she is a neat character with cool lore. And the dark arms and black doom are neat lore wise.
I think there was no point in that interview, since he can’t even answer the questions because he doesn’t want to spoil, he may aswell make the interview after the game so he can actually answer questions
I mean with the interview he could very well just be speaking incredibly vague in order to not reveal a lot about where shadow gens story will go, also it’s a translation from Japanese which can be messy and unclear
Having seen the first episode of dark beginnings, your fears were completely justified. It wasn't interested in telling a story so much as having Black Doom just jingle keys in front of our faces for 5 minutes.
I can see the concern in the interview but I will say these answers are nothing new for Iizuka. At every interview he does, he bounces around the questions. He is media trained. Whether it’s to avoid controversy or due to NDA’s. So I wouldn’t be super worried about the story. But I won’t expect a whole lot.
I'm both totally excited for this game, but at the same time worried. I mean, let's face facts here. Even if this does potentially become arguably the best Sonic game ever, you just know for a fact that some Sonic hater/detractor, or some overly critical critic who thinks that dumping on Sonic makes them "funny and clever", or even someone who claims to be a Sonic fan but in reality has only ever played Sonic 1 and Sonic Spin Ball back when they were 8 years old and hates every single solitary game that isn't those two, is going to find something to complain about, and that thing is going to basically "ruin" the whole game for them. They'll then be spouting this toxic opinion, and people who can't form their own opinions will just nod along and go with it. And if your attitudes more positive and you actually like the game, then you are going to be frowned upon and everyone will act as if YOU are the problem with the Sonic series. I'm just worried that history will repeat itself over and over again.
Yea that key art is cooler! Maybe they will great a Shadow excusive game that will explain more lore on Shadow and this is just a Shadow generations teaser. Side note I don't understand the love for unleashed yea it was kinda cool good concept idea but mostly annoying I dislike being the wearehog. It won't fail. People like the gameplay shown in the trailers. Gameplay is what the Sonic series is about. I disagree that Generations is the best Sonic game of all-time. For me, SRB2 is the best Sonic game. Honestly I'm not a fan of Shadow. He's a pretty overrated character.
Lost World is decent, not buggy, good gameplay, story is so-so but whatever, yet people act like it's straight up bad. We're not starved, you just don't want what they've put in the cupboard; Forces isn't the only thing in there.
@@SSJ-Scotty Fair enough. I'd say if you want a good game, and can ignore the story, Lost World is a solid entry. Here's hoping we can eat good with Shadow Generations.
Honestly why isn't this just its own game? That part is what worries me as if they're not confident in it. It also ferrets the problem I had with Generations. The fact that it just recycles stages and bosses instead of doing something different but the same.

@@islamforever5875 This guy's got it down
@@shady5595 I noticed that many people are bias against Iizuka and misrepresent very often what he says to try to prove that he knows nothing about the characters.
I think the reason Izzuka dodged around the question about Gerald making Shadow a hedgehog because he doesn't want to spoil anything.
Japanese stories for sonic? None of them tops sonic satm
Cuz the Meta Era Games Written by 2 Lazy Hacks are TOO Saturday Morning than the ACTUAL Saturday Morning Cartoon of Sonic.
For Sonic Team, yes. Yes it is. I know they've been doing good lately, but 2 good years doesn't exactly erase the past.
Yup... sonic has his highs and lows like any other franchise would sometimes it's best to learn from our past mistakes and not repeating them and make a better future instead not just for sonic team but in general for any human also when you say it's too good to be true for sonic team you act like another studio made sonic X Shadow generations or they accidentally or just dumb luck managed to make this game that's..just doesn't make any sense
I think the thing that's keeping me on edge is that the game looks like it has a lot to it, but they say it's shorter than original Generations
I'm glad Colors and Generations got a remake, but I think the storybook series needed remakes a lot more.
Yeah... but the colors remaster was shit...what are you on about?..
I think you might thinking a little to deep. You said bro was skimming past the question and i think it's because that will be answered in the game or the notebook. It possible sega wants to keep things secret or at least that. I'm also half way so maybe you say this but i just want to put this here.
Man what? A true sonic fan boi lmfao
@@WrecklezzENT I'm saying it possible not that it is. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong but things seem quite different on Sega's part as of late so who is to say this also hasn't changed. Not holding my breath just giving my opinion on the matter.
Yeah. That's what I was thinking; Iizuka probably answered that way because he most likely didn't want to spoil anything in the logbook.
@@GhostLordRetro indeed.

Which he doesn’t really in most of his appearances. And Shadow the Hedgehog seems to try giving an arc where he ignores his past at the end, which continues in 06.
with sonic there's always a chance. I am still keeping my expectations low. So far this is still the most hype i've been since gens anyways.
I dont even care if it “fails.” Generations was THE sonic game for me as a kid. The shadow stuff is just a bonus :)
Sonic's Shadow = Classic Sonic
Shadow's Shadow = His Doom Power Ups
From previous experiences I feel that Iizuka isn’t great with answering lore based questions, even with frontiers and forces he was either pretty vague, misleading, or just making stuff up. Like with the 2 worlds stuff or even some of the questions about Frontiers
I understand the worry, especially since Sonic Team has gotten our boy so wrong so many times before
But I have faith, Sonic Team are really putting their all into restoring their characters and making Sonic something worth paying attention to again; I trust them to do Shadow the Hedgehog justice, both in-game and on the big screen
It’s always been cool to like Sonic.
This is my expectations right now:
I’m expecting the gameplay will be fun, but the story will be secondary to the gameplay. But my God, I would love to be proven wrong and for this to be one of the best stories Shadow has ever had.
My favorite Sonic games:
Sonic 3
Sonic Mania
SA1
SA2
Generations
Frontier
dude i hope they make a final story and give sonic generations the story it never had.
I'm not really asking why he looks like a hedgehog I'm asking does he have any level of hedgehog DNA I mean obviously he should primarily be a hedgehog with black Doom DNA
Now all I need is sonic frontiers animai
They really gave the Zelda timeline Nintendo answer with that interview
Sonic’s shadow in the art is classic Sonic
Not the Vegeta pose for the thumbnail 😭💀
I think he's more rubbing his nose kinda like how Sonic does.
I got hyped when I saw Emerl in the trailer I was like WTH is he doing here
The worst thing I can say is: on some level the doom powers feel pretty redundant in some areas specifically the wings and the board in the metal madness fight.
So far, the Level Design kinda gives me Forces vibes. But I'm sure it'll at least be much better and tolerable compared to Forces.
I just wonder if the 3DS Stages will be in this game alongside the Console ones?
I think its totally reasonable to not always get the answer to everything, its what makes stories fun to come back to. And I think Iizuka knows this.
An explanation can possibly be made, but I would imagine that it wouldn't live up to peoples expectations. Why Shadow is a hedgehog isn't even necessary to know, but people clearly have fun theorising it anyway.
Here is a list of Sonic games that were released during the Dreamcast/PS2 era (1998-2008):
1. Sonic Adventure (1998)
2. Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)
3. Sonic Shuffle (2000)
4. Sonic Heroes (2003)
5. Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
7. Sonic Unleashed (2008)
Does anyone know if Gerald’s journal is a physical copy? Thats the only reason I’ve considered preorder
1:17
And also that Sonic’s shadow looks like Classic Sonic.
We have to wait and see
Remember when people were saying this was forces level 🤣
There's several red flags, particularly concerning the gameplay.
Which ones? The other not thing I’m personally concerned about is the feel of the controls. But it looked decent in footage and from what I’ve seen of people who’ve played it, I’m not too worried.
@@overcross7669
Automation, seems like there is quite a lot of it. Physics and momentum, something about it is reminiscent of Frontiers.
Bro, just predicted Mephiles.
Only thing im worried about is not playing game when it comes out.
Epissode Shadow was pretty good tho. Fire remixes, much better level design, better dialogue, and a slightly more interesting story. It was the first decent Team Dark characterization since 06
I want a Forces Remake with a New Campaign from Knuckle's Perspective.
Remember when he got 80% of resistance killed in that one level in Metropolis?
Good times
Honestly I hope they add the ability to be able to play as Shadow in Sonic stages. I know it wouldn’t make complete sense, but idk I think being able to play as shadow in green hill, or Sky sanctuary would be dope! Maybe get rid of the doom powers, I just want shadow :/
Im just REALY happy it comes out at all, my original sonic generations on steam has stopped working. Litterally cant boot it up for some reason. So it will be funn to actually get to play it again, AND with updated graphics, and alot more additional content
If you have mods on it, you might need to delete them all, uninstall it, then reinstall.
Do I need to play the first generations game? I’ve played sonic adventure 2
I'd say that key artwork is just as good as the one for Sonic Unleashed
i think its more important that they get the gameplay right, and even if the story is a 6 or a 7/10, thats me happy. all the story has to do is just make sense
If they want an epic game they need super sonic ,shadow n classic sonic
I think he just wants to speculate until it comes out
Maybe I want a Lost World Remaster or a Rise of Lyric Remaster Written by Ian Flynn.
So basically your concern is the story? Tbh..you are not the only one
shadow in a movie will bring the movie community to there game and the dark beginning will bring like the ppl who watch cartoon and nime to the community of sonic so id say they ARE GOING ALL OUT in this one
We still havent seen an act 2 yet thats my biggest worry its like theyre hiding it
the only bad part about this remaster is it doesnt look like sonic(modern) will get any new cool features or abilities(the drop dash are useless for modern)so its kinda lame that they doesnt bother to do something with modern sonic like how they give classic sonic a drop dash
Hoping the reason why he’s so vague about the questions is because he would be spoiling it if he answered, meaning it will be covered (I hope)
Mr lizuka is not the story director, Ian Flynn is. So it won't fail
Devil doom was black doom with all the emeralds. This looks like dooms' eye with all the emeralds
The only thing that could bring this game down are bugs
This game literally has competition with mario party jamboree
Look im just saying we haven’t seen shadow drift and idk if we should be alarm or not
I would love to see an Ifrit boss and nega Mother Wisp bosses in Sonic x Shadow generations.
I just hope it’s good.
maybe they are waiting for the animation and the book to release so they dont want to give any info about shadow until then
I mean with the interview he could very well just be speaking incredibly vague in order to not reveal a lot about where shadow gens story will go, also it’s a translation from Japanese which can be messy and unclear
No. Shit. Why would he just spit out an entire presentation where he spoils every single aspect of the upcoming game and the franchise future?
I so want the COLLECTERS EDITIONS but agree god DAMM $$$!!!! There's an anime of Shadow!!!!?
I Hope the Switch Port Looks good
I think somw people will be disapointed, due to overhyping it but i dont that is going to be a forces case where ppl hypes and got a bomb of a games i think sonic x shadow generations will likely be one of the top tier sonic remasters with expansion this franchise has seen in its life span, and also the level of polish is much higher than frontiers
ayeee W thumbnail
Only problem for me is hover boosting over skate boosting. But Mods will fix it withing days so whatever.
Sonic and Shadow s unleashed Sonic and the black knight 2 these 2 im cool with these 2
It won't fail. People like the gameplay shown in the trailers. Gameplay is what the Sonic series is about. I disagree that Generations is the best Sonic game of all-time. For me, SRB2 is the best Sonic game. Honestly I'm not a fan of Shadow. He's a pretty overrated character.
Sonic frontiers was good and everyone thought it was gonna fail
Don't assume the worst when there is no reason to
We are so starved for a decent game
Lost World is decent, not buggy, good gameplay, story is so-so but whatever, yet people act like it's straight up bad.
We're not starved, you just don't want what they've put in the cupboard; Forces isn't the only thing in there.
@BlueEyedVibeChecker I didn't play lost world.... I just reconnected with my childhood recently and want a good new sonic game
@@SSJ-Scotty Fair enough.
I'd say if you want a good game, and can ignore the story, Lost World is a solid entry. (The story isn't bad per se, just incredibly childish)
But yeah, hopefully SEGA is cooking something good with this next one, but I suppose only time'll tell.
Here's hoping we can eat good with Shadow Generations.
@BlueEyedVibeChecker hell yeah I need this game to be crazy good and I might check out lost world
Hahah try liking Sonic in the 90s got the same comments just play Mario... boring! but I think the early 2000s it was harder being a Sonic fan
To be honest i think the weakest part of the game (gameplay wise) will be the act 2s. Boost 2D doesnt really get much better then alright
stop it with these click bait videos, no negativity only positive vibes right now.
Just get rid of the 2d sections in "3D" sonic games and I'm happy
No. It will be exactly what it set oit to be. It will be whiny entitled fans who expect more then they deserve that will be the problem.
Shadow's Shadow would have been MORE Symbolic in the Artwork if it's Maria Robotnik's Silhouette in place of The Doom Wings.
Is that the dokatzo model in the thumbnail
No.
Honestly why isn't this just its own game? That part is what worries me as if they're not confident in it. It also ferrets the problem I had with Generations. The fact that it just recycles stages and bosses instead of doing something different but the same.
No
Next question
